Lousy camera and auto-target 2008-11-23
Ask me tomorrow, and I'll say I like this game. But right now I just got done playing it, and I'm still fired up about how difficult it is. The difficulty arises from a horrible camera and auto-targeting. A game should be legitimately and purposely difficult, not difficult from crappy game play.

Here's an example: I have a guy in a headlock, and I'm using him to shield myself from bullets. There are about twenty guys down the street taking potshots at me. But one baddy is closing in fast, coming up on my side.

Now, first of all, I'm lucky if I can see him at all, because the camera may be stuck in a corner looking at a lamppost, or it might be stuck inside the geometry of my character, so that I'm looking at the inside of my own head. But assuming I can see the guy coming in from the side, if I try to target him, I end up targeting the people 150 yards down the street. I can try to target over and over again, and it just toggles between the people who are not an imminent threat to me. Meanwhile Joe Bad Guy comes up to my side and blows my brains out from point blank range.

If you enjoy exercises in frustration, this game is for you.

Poor Max Payne Rip-Off. 2007-12-24
This Has to be the worst Max Payne Rip-off in History. Poor Graphics, Linear Story, & a Cheese-ball Character. Plus, The auto aim is annoying. There isn't anything awesome you're missing if you skip this game.

Dead to Rights1 2006-09-20
I 1st purchased this game because a friend told me it was good. This game is packed with action great game play and good graphics. I played this 1 until I finished it. I will now purchase part 2.

Quite possibly the worst game I've ever played. 2005-07-04
First and foremost, it looks like a commercialized Max Payne rip-off. I love Max Payne and I wouldn't mind if a game was using the same formula, but this took the formula and modified it for the more "sell-out" approach. The first FMV sequence was not the kind of thing I'd want to see in a game.

Secondly are the controls. Horrible. I know it probably doesn't mean a whole lot when a PC gamer says the controls are horrible for a console shooter, but the controls are to the point of being almost unplayable. If this were its controls were its only flaw, it could have been redeemed, but alas, it has much bigger problems.

Next on the list is the scaling of difficulty. There are no selectable skill levels, and the progression of difficulty is a pure absurdity. On one level you might get hit a few times, on the next level you'll get killed about twenty times before you finally lose patience with the game. Also, the dog, while a good idea for game mechanics, is a retarded implementation. The controls for him are nearly as bad as they are for the main character.

Another gaping problem is the camera and locking scheme. I'd say that 90% of the time you trace a lock on someone, it's not a person who any reasonable human would want to fire at first. You'll be flanking more than you'll be hitting actual targets. The way the camera always goes to the most inconvenient angles also helps for enemies to sneak up on you unnoticed and kill you with one shot. Sickening.

So if you have some extra money, I'd suggest spending it on Max Payne or Max Payne 2. Overall I was greatly unimpressed by the gameplay. It was worse than Pariah, yet somehow gaming magazines rated it a 9 and Max Payne 2 a 7, claiming Dead To Rights was an original, classic game while Max Payne 2 was a cheap rip-off.

Avoid this game at all costs.

Another shooting & driving game. The graphic is bad. 2004-10-10
You play as a cop in this game. You can rob a car just like in Grand theft auto. The worst problem of this game is the graphic. It does not have many details.
The car you're driving look almost the same as others on the street. They are all black or dark brown!
Id rather play Maxpayne 2 or Burnout 3

Great Shooting Game: Not Max Payne Bop Off 2004-07-02

GOOD ACTION GAME 2004-04-03
DEAD TO RIGHTS FOR XBOX IS NICE GAME BUT WAAAAAAAY TO HARD I MEAN U JUS KEEP SHOTTING AT THESE BAD GUYS AND MORE KEEPS COMING OUT OF NOWHERE THE GAME COULD OF BEEN MORE EASY AND MORE ENTERTATINING THE FIRST MINI GAME ISN'T REALLY FOR CHILDREN UNDER 13 BUT STILL FUN YET NOT NECCCASARY IF YOUR'RE LOOKING FOR A GAME TO PLAY ON WEEKEND NIGHTS THIS IS THE GAME

Could change a few things. 2004-03-05
The game was ok, but some parts were very hard to get through. They should have had different difficulty levels of play (like easy) the controls were a bit slow also. I would be fighting someone and they would take me out because of a slow response time, not because of anything else. If you could live with all that stuff, than the game is good choice. If you like shooting, fighting and fast paced action this is a game to try.

not for youngsters you play as a striper at times 2004-02-26
Games....... OK but it's not all that. Shotting system same as James Bond 007 Everything or Nothing just crapier.

Disappointing 2004-02-16
I totally hated the camera angles of this game, they were awful. There really is not much of a strategy to follow to beat Dead To Rights. Just a lot of button mashing and ducking. This seemed more like a typical FPS. The story was pretty stupid and while I applaud the efforts of adding stuff like arm wrestling, lock picking, being a stripper, etc. to spice the game, it just made the game not only brainless but cheesy. I was expecting better.
