One of the Best

This is like one of the best CD I bought!! Its awesome! It isn't really, really good, but it made me listen to it at least two songs a day, I got addicted to it. You will only like this Cd if you like Avril Lavigne, and she friggin rocks!!!
A great debut from a great artist... 2008-04-04
Before purchasing "Let Go," I actually had bought "Under My Skin," which I thought was a stunning album. With "Let Go," although not as good as her sophomore release, Avril still meets her audience's needs with a great collection of rock/pop hooks that are sure to be stuck in your head. Each song has it's own unique style, my personal favorite being "Anything But Ordinary," which has such a great melody! It's very fun and upbeat, as are most of the songs, with the exception of "Tomorrow," a very unique song with a haunting melody.
Some standouts on this album include "Anything But Ordinary," "Naked," "Complicated," "Loosing Grip," and "Unwanted," and "Sk8er Boi," just to name a few. Avril belts out several tunes, and all of the songs were written by her... showing her wonderful musicianship. She also plays the guitar... and can sing very well (obviously).
Of course, this album isn't perfect. Some of the songs can teeter on the edge of boring and monotonous, and although "Tomorrow" is very unique, it is very forgetabble. "Nobody's Fool" and "My World" are also pretty good songs, although they are also forgetabble and can linger on the verge of becoming boring, with their monotonous choruses.
All in all, despite some cons, Avril Lavigne has landed in the music industry with a great debut filled with some great songs with some great messages. And although some songs are weaker than others, "Let Go" shows Avril's talents very well... from her singing... to her songwriting... and to her musicianship. She is truly a star.

The novelty has worn off since it's been over 5 years since it was unleashed upon the world.
Really, this is one of the best albums I've ever heard. People who will mock me for saying this are silly little people who love to condescend others, and that's okay. Deal with people the way they deal with you, is my take on it.
Avril is very lucky that she had the kind of writers she did at the time, who read her personality and who she was and turned it into 13 INCREDIBLE tracks that brought teens and adults alike together.
What can I say? The tunes AND the lyrics are absolutely incredible. Ever since this damn album I have been dying for others to make something even close to this. I was heavily obsessed, as a 17 year old at the time. I think that if it was released today, I would still be obsessed. Forget about the Avril image in the media today, or any negativity you may have against her. The tracks are fresh, even for today, original and just plain addictive.
'Anything but Ordinary' and 'Complicated' are on my list of top 10 favourite songs ever, 'Dreams to Dream' being my first... And they are just absolutely brilliant songs. I do love it when songs reach for high notes and aren't afraid to expand through the regions of melodies. More often these days it's like people are afraid to move for than two notes up or down from whichever note they started. It's just such a shame.
An example of the broad range of notes hit in this film, let's look at Anything but Ordinary for a moment. The 'nough' in 'Is it e-nough' is almost an entire octave higher than where the 'is it e' part starts off on. It's terrific!
And I love in 'Complicated' the first thing you hear is 'Chill out, what you yellin' for, lay back, it's all been done before. And if you could only let it be, you would see...' Well there's an brilliant and original tune right there. By that time I'm thinking "God, who needs the chorus? This is addictive enough". And the thing that makes it is the varying notes strung together in such a short space.
And lyrics-wise, I also believe that one of the big attractions to this album in regards to the teenage spectrum would have to be how easy it was for them to relate to what was being sung. In the song 'Things I'll Never Say', for instance, there's the line "I'm tugging at me hair, I'm pulling in my clothes, I'm trying to keep my cool, I know it shows. I'm staring at my feet, my cheeks are turning red, I'm searching for the words inside my head. I'm feeling nervous, trying to be so perfect, cause I know you're worth it." Aside from the gorgeous tune accompanying it, how beautiful honest are these lyrics? I know that at the time when I was 17, I lapped this particular song up because I related soooo much. And I know that most other teens did. This was back before the whole "Alternative/Emo Superbeings Are Our Superior" regiment took over the souls of every teen in creation.
Anyway, like I said, and even my friend, there is not one single track on this album that is not good.
My favourites in order:
1. Anything but Ordinary: 5/5 (All about the rushes in life, I guess. And of course the fear of being ordinary.)
2. Complicated: 5/5 (About a relationship that gets complicated on one side only.)
3. Naked: 5/5 (About letting somebody in to see the real you.)
4. Things I'll Never Say: 5/5 (About wishing you could say things, but they either come out wrong or you're too afraid to say them in the first place.)
5. I'm With You: 4/5 (Wanting to find somebody to love, but not sure where to start.)
6. S8er Boi: 4/5 (About a skater boy who becomes famous and ditches the snobby girl who secretly liked him!! Top fun this.)
7. Tomorrow: 4/5 (About not believing somebody when they say they love you.)
8. My World: 4/5 (This is all about Avril's life)
9. Too Much: 4/5 (Wondering if somebody could just BE there for you; is it really too much to be asking for?)
10. Nobody's Fool: 4/5 (An interesting track, all about not turning into somebody else to suit another)
11. Mobile: 4/5 (About things changing too much)
12. Unwanted: 4/5 (About being shut out of someone's life when around other people)
13. Losing Grip: 4/5 (Deciding to end a relationship after the significant other causes you to snap with frustration)

am I allowed to like Avril? 2008-01-31
I think my other Avril review got deleted because I cursed in it, but there's a curse word in the title of the CD! Oh well. I'm an adult male well outside Avril's target demographic. But I think she has a fantastic voice and great songs. I'm a big fan. It's hard to believe on this debut release the little girl in the booklet sings the powerful opening anthem of Losing My Grip. Outstanding CD all the way through. I do like her "The Best .... Thing" and her acoustic EP albums better but this one is also a must have. While her later CD is more like Linkin Park meets Hannah Montanna, Let It Go is more like Joan Jett meets Alanis Morissette. My favotite tracks include: Losing Grip, Complicated. I'm With You, Nobody's Fool.

I bought this a Christmas Gift for my 14 year old step-daughter and she was thrilled, it was exactly what she wanted.

Self-professed skate punk Avril Lavigne sings that she'd "rather be anything but ordinary" on her debut. While the fact that she had a record deal by the age of 16 separates her from the pack, too often
Let Go's lyrical shortcomings drag the teenager's musically impressive recording entrée into the realm of the typical. The catchy choruses of
Go are substantial, though, thanks to Lavigne's riff-driven melodies and powerful vocals, which at times adopt the unorthodox intonation quirks of fellow Canadian Alanis Morrissette. The nuanced, dynamic "Losing Grip," "My World" (which perfectly captures the ennui of suburbia), and the buoyant power-pop blast "Sk8er Boi" are the collection's highlights. But Lavigne's honest yet awkward words weigh down the likes of "Mobile," "I'm with You," and "Naked." "Nobody's Fool," which displays her Pink-like take-me-as-I-am credo, hints that someday Lavigne's lyrics will match the strength of her music.

If you're not a preteen/teenage girl, stay away from this album.

Personally, I really enjoy some of the songs on here - even after growing out of that stage. Avril Lavigne pretty much defined my preteen/early teen years of being a (wannabe) tomboy. Here are some very catchy songs that make you happy to be a girl and get lost in lust and all that.
But if you're not a teenage girl all you'll see is inane lyrics with no point whatsoever.
Still, Avril Lavigne was so much better at this time than she is now - just another idiotic blonde popstar who sounds like she's whining 99% of the time. This album has an outstanding singing voice that you can't help but sing a long to. Great present for the younger girls. Older people will just call it fake punk made for the radio.

LET GO is the debut album from Avril Lavigne. The album released 4 singles with corresponding music videos; Complicated, Sk8er Boi, I'm With You, and Losing Grip.
01. Losing Grip - The fourth and final single from the album. A good start to this album. 4.8/5
02. Complicated - The first single off of the album. It is fun to listen too and to sing along too also. 5/5
03. Sk8er Boi - The second single off of the album. It is fun too just sing along to and have a blast with. 4/5
04. I'm With You - The third single off of the album. One of the slower songs on the album. Not my favorite but it is a good song. 4/5
05. Mobile - Not a very good song in my opinion. 3/5
06. Unwanted - My second least favorite track on the album. 2/5
07. Tomorrow - My least favorite track on the album. 1/5
08. Anything But Ordinary - My 2nd favorite track on the album. 5/5

AVRIL IS A YOUNG WOMAN AND HER MUSIC IS REALLY GOOD. I RESPECT ARTISTS WHO WRITE THEIR OWN MUSIC. BUT I ALSO UNDERSTAND THAT WHEN YOU ARE STARTING OUT THAT YOU NEED TO HAVE HELP WRITING SONGS PEOPLE LIKE TO ARGUE THAT ONLY "ONLY REAL ARTIST" WRITE THEIR OWN MUSIC BUT THAT'S NOT TRUE. SO GIVE AVRIL A CHANCE!! SHE IS GOOD!! SHE REMINDS ME OF JENNIFER PAIGE, CHECK HER OUT TOO SHE IS ALSO A GREAT SINGER
