Everything I need for less than $50! 2004-02-07
Microsoft Works sometimes gets a bad rap. If you never used it, you may not know that includes a database, spreadsheet, word processor, and more. What's even better, is that the spreadsheet and word processor are compatible with Microsoft Office. So you can save files so that they can be opened in Microsoft Office AND you can open files that someone else sent to you if they were created in MS Word or Excel. This is perfect for the work I do for the humane society that I volunteer for as well as planning my daughter's girl scout troops activities and camping trips.

Very Nice, Very Cheap 2004-02-03
I put MS Works on all systems that I make for other people. It has everything they need, and it dosen't break the bank. The only thing I don't like is that there is no Presentation software, or PowerPoint clone. Then again, if they included that, MS Office sales would go down A LOT!!!

passable for general use but... 2004-01-25
At first I thought the idea of offering a set of the most popular applications at an affordable price was great. Recently, however, many computer makers have started using MS Works as the standard pre-loaded suite on new machines.

Users who need more than very very basic features will need to buy more dependable software packages(e.g. MS Office). The word processor in Works, for instance, does not have many macrons that are commonly used in Dutch, Scandinavian, Turkish, romanized Russian, Japanese etc.. In the end the low price of MS Works is a way to save money to computer makers and to squeeze out extra money from buyers who will need to upgrade to better products anyway.

Zero stars would be more like it. 2003-11-27
This product isn't any better than version 3.0 for Windows 3.1. In fact, the only big differences between the two products are that this one is more bloated and more buggy. It's too expensive for what it is, and they should really be paying me for using this piece of garbage.

There's a title for Microsoft Works 7.0 users, and that title is "beta tester."

MS Works 7.0 2003-08-02
I had to upgrade to MS Works 7.0 due to Y2K issues. I am not nearly as satisfied with MS Wortks 7.0 as I was with MS Works 4.5. I am now searching for a replacement.

Price and Capability 2007-01-18
For the price, this is a great substitute for OFFICE. Good, Capable, Easy. I haven't needed anymore, (using as a "home-based" product).

Simple program 2007-01-15
Microsoft Works 7.0 is a simple easy to use program. It is all that I need for home use on the computer that it is on.

Good enough for most users... 2005-12-01
With Microsoft Office going for anywhere between $130-$300 (depending on what apps are included, there's the Education edition, Basic, Small Business, Professional, etc.) WORKS fills a gap Office shouldn't, and that's probably why Microsoft still releases it. I've used WORKS since it ran in DOS and was small enough to be run from a floppy, and it continues to be what it was, a function, if no-frills productivity suite. For most users, this will be enough to create most of the everyday letters and databases. You don't even have to bother with that annoying paper clip...

If you're looking for something more functional, but don't have the money for Office, then the open source Open Office would be the way to go. If Works comes packaged with your PC though, it might just be enough for you.

A Best Buy 2005-08-23
I have used works type products for years. Microsoft Works 7 is the best of the lot. It will work on almost any computer in use today and is definitely a best buy at the current price.

Under-rated, over-criticized 2004-06-28
I have used MS WORKS from about the time it was born, when it was quite primitive and sometimes unstable. But I have continued to use it, primarily for databases, because it has become progressively more stable and easy to use. These are not all small and simple databases--many include several thousand items, each with 20 to 30 fields of data. It is easy to "find" single items or to assemble groups of items ("filter"), and to print customized reports. So if you don't need (or want) the super sophistication of ACCESS, I have found WORKS to be a friendly and helpful--and inexpensive--alternative.
