the best little photo printer for your money

The hp photosmart 130 has the quality of a photoshop. I got it for 150 dollars thinking what the heck. But when I tried it out it was more like wow, this thing is tight. It prints fast, crisp, clean pictures off your memory card. It's very simple. You stick your card in the correct slot, and the printer will read the images. The only bad thing is that the pictures are numbered by the order that they are on the memory card. So you have to know that. BUT, there is an alteritive. You can select a range of pictures that you think the picture might be in, ex:(1-27) and then it will print out little thumbnails of those pictures with a number under it. Then from that you can decide the picture number you want to print. BUT, it is sometimes hard to determin what picture it is that you want because it is so small.

This is just an okay photo printer. The colors are not vibrant. The main complaint I have is that this printer does not have a screen that lets you preview and select the photo you want to print. Instead, the printer assigns a number to each photo contained on your memory card that is DIFFERENT from the number the camera assigns to each photo. The inconsistent numbering systems make it difficult to select the photo you want to print. If you use a memory card that can contain 100 or more photos, this becomes a big problem if you don't want to print all of the photos on your card. The only way to deal with this issue is to print index cards to discover the number assigned to your photo by the printer, but that means wasting your expensive printer ink and paper. I'd suggest buying another photoprinter that either uses the same photo numbering system as your camera or has a preview screen.
There are better choices 2003-08-07
First, the good news: HP supports this printer, so you can get paper and ink for many years to come. And it prints borderless 4x6 prints in a matter of seconds.
Unfortunately, there is a lot of bad news about this printer. First, the color tone is poor. Second, the drivers are not fully XP compatible, which caused some instability for me. Third, the card reader is virtually worthless. It can take an hour just to read DPOF prints. Four, the per-print cost is moderately high.
For the same money, buy the vastly superior Hi-Touch Imaging dye-sub printers, which produce better prints at a lower cost per-print.
I love it!!! 2003-06-19
I received this item for Christmas and it is one present that is not collecting dust. I purchased a camcorder carrying case and I pack the digital camara, paper and extra ink and the printer with me to every function. Everyone instantly gets copies of the shots they want. No more being hounded for my negatives.
Excellent 2003-05-29
For 4 x 6 photos, this printer rocks. It isn't too noisy, a little slow but tolerable, and prints photographic quality on photo paper. It accepts compact flash and other cards. A PC isn't required but can be connected if desired. The colors are rich and vibrant however you may need to let the ink dry properly so separate them and don't stack them. There isn't a output tray...it outputs on top of the input tray so you'll have to grab the printouts as the eject. It's small enough to travel with your digital camera but you'll need access to an A/C outlet. It isn't perfect, but for those who want a quick hardcopy of their digital photos while travelling, this is well worth it.
really good printer 2004-04-18
i got this printer to start a photo studio in my house, and i live out of te city and all the people i took a picture, are happy whit it. i am workin whit this printer so, i tink is one of the best i have. also have lexmark 6170 all in one and works great too. the ink last me a lot. have more than 100 shots and still almost at half. i sold all the pict. and share whit some family , all are in love whit this printer. another thing. i dont use glossy paper. starting using ferrania profesional satin is the best paper for photos. try ferrania and youll remember me.
Great for novices and travellers

The printer is highly suitable for non-PC environments and for those on the go. The HP Photosmart 130's affordable price, support for the main digicam storage media, "no-brainer" operation and quality output also make it a good buy for novice and intermediate digital camera users who are looking for a photo printer.
Pros: Portable, no PC required, quality output.
Cons: Printing costs can get expensive, takes 2.5 minutes to produce a 4R print.
Good Printer for the Price 2003-12-31
Considering that this is an older model from HP (HP discontinued this model and suggest to buy Photosmart 145 as an alternative), this is a good printer. It does pretty well what it promises to do - print quality 4x6 photos. The printer is easy to set up and easy to use. It accepts different types of digital memory cards and is pretty fast in printing - less than 30 seconds to print one photo. The quality of the prints is as good as regular camera prints - your friends wouldn't tell the difference unless you tell them. The one inconvenience with this printer is the non-availability of print preview facility on the printer - you have to note down the serial number of the image (by viewing on the camera) before inserting the digital memory card into the printer. Overall, this is a good printer for the price you get it.
new to photo's 2003-12-08
I was never one to get into photography but with the gift of a sony digital and this HP130 I am in buisness. I take a whole bunch of photos and when I get the one I like I give copies to the folks I think will appreciate it. No waste of money to develope just to see if I got a good Picture....The people around me especialy like my picture of "grumpy" from disneyland last march...they say he is my patron saint...
