Have a seat. You're about to enter the digital dimension. Inside this DVD/Video player, you'll find a digital Cinema Mode that combines brightness control with picture noise canceling. The result is a clear and crisp image that appears on the screen. And from the comfort of your chair, you can adjust the picture on your screen. Built-in Advanced Surround (V.S.S.) and the Dialogue Enhancer provide channel surround sound that will blow back your hair. It's like going to the movies or a big concert without ever leaving your home. That's the digital dimension.

Excellent 2003-03-17
... dropped this baby under [$] and waived the shipping, so I got one. It's exactly as advertised by the other owners here. Excellent picture and sound. Quality made and all functions are very intuitive and easy to memorize. I was worried about the screen being so small. That worry only lasted a few minutes. The widescreen picture and crisp image made me forget all that. The only thing I would wish for on this one is that the charger was somehow built in. I do not like having another adapter brick and multiple cords and plugs to mess with. That fault, however, is so small that I am not deducting a thing from the highest rating on this one.

Best portable DVD player around, worth the price. 2003-03-10
After much research, reading of reviews, specs and comparisons of other portable DVD players, this cute and sturdy little player won me over and I decided to purchase it. Much to my delight, it was the best I could hope for. This little high tech machine really performs. Sharp, clear picture and surround sound (especially when using headphones!). The swivel monitor makes it especially attractive. When I brought it to my workplace to show some co-workers, it was such a big hit! Two of my co-workers were sold and are in the process of purchasing one. The sheer look of it attracted everyone and when they saw the player in action it was even more impressive to them. One minor, teensy, weensy flaw, the volume control is just a bit too recessed on the side of the machine for a good finger grip but certainly not enough to cause frustration. The other 99% positives of this player makes that teeny flaw seem harmless. The 5 inch widescreen is just too cute. And not to worry about the small screen size, you'll get captivated by the crystal clear picture quality of the movie that you don't even think about the 5 inch screen. Can you tell .... I love this product, it really is a gem!

Great Buy 2003-01-16
I bought this DVD for my family this Christmas. It was the best buy of the season. It has already paid for itself in entertain-
ment hours. The picture is GREAT. The sound is wonderful. We have taken it on the road with us and hooked it up to the t.v. in the hotel room. There have been times when we have used this instead of our home DVD. The only thing I have not tried is the battery.
I read all the reviews on this item and others. Everything I read in the reviews were right on target. I am glad I bought this DVD. Price did play a role in my purchase. I wanted to spend around 300 - 400.00 dollars. I did not look at too many DVD's that were higher. But for the money I am very happy.

Good dvd player 2003-01-09
If you just want a DVD player, this is perfect. Good sound quality and image. One caveat, there is no audio/visual INPUT, only OUTPUT. So you can hook it up to your TV to watch a movie, but you CANNOT hook up a camera to it and play a video from your camera on it. With some of the more expensive models, there is a/v input that allow this - which is a nice feature.

A life saver 2003-01-09
I travel a lot and this little device has helped me to retain my sanity.

The screen quality is good, and I've been able to connect the device to my parents wide-screen TV using the accompanying A/V cable. No problems.

The battery could last a little longer (around 2 hours) but that can be solved by picking up the extended life battery (Panasonic CGR-H601A/B Rechargable Battery Pack for Portable DVD Players).

This model does not have a memory stick slot, as do other higher end models. But it does handle MP3 CDs just fine.

The only real complaint I have is that the sound system can sometimes not be loud enough on an airplane--the sound of the engines overrides the sound from the movie making it hard to hear some softer sounds or dialogue. Noise cancelling headphones go a long way to correct this shortcoming.

A True Trusted Old Loyal Friend 2008-05-31
I know it's been over five years (at least) for when I bought this product - before all the available downloadable stuff on Mac etc these day's. But when I first had it (small and portable is what I needed) school, standing on line, waiting in lobby's, long road trips, doing laundry etc. It was the greatest thing since sliced bread and even to this day I find it hard to break that tie to "DVD" instead of digital (although, I'm ready willing and able) and trying, but anyway. I saw my trusted friend here and felt proud to add a well deserved eulogy.

Never have I had a single problem and the display "breath taking" I've been hooking it up to a regular TV for over five years (at least) always thinking I'm going to get a regular DVD player "soon" (just to prolong the life of my friend) {you know all this about DVD recorders - when and what is the right time to buy}. But when something isn't broken - don't fix it.

There's this whole pile of behind the scene technical settings that I have not the clue as to "mess with" but when I first got it I painstakingly went through the settings and haven't gone back since. I always wonder if I'm "optimizing" it's full potential (but then it's just a movie player - what more can it do, right).

So in closing: It's out dated now (even just DVD players are) but If the god's will allow, This little Panasonic DVD-LV50 will be clutched in my hands as I travel the world beyond (still faithfully spinning my movies).

Wow 2004-07-28
I have been searcing for a good portable dvd player for months and originaly i passed right past this one becaus i would perfer a 7" that was cheaper. then i actually went to stores and saw the cheap ones were a peice of junkwhen i got to the store i saw that this was $299 at circut city but the guy said to me that i could get an open box one that was that was returned and fixed for only $255. so i had a great deal and a high quality dvd player! so i recemond if you dont buy this online go to circut city and get an open box of this.

by the way i love this product it is one of the best dvd players out there i love it it even has higher quality than the tv in my room.
i dont know what i can do with out it
though i do wish that it came with a larger battery
2.5 hour battery wil not last a flight to europe.

Good enough 2003-07-11
I am not sorry I bought this product. The screen is big enough for one person, looks fine and you can play with the aspect ratio, which comes in handy. The audio needs to go through a headset -- the speaker stinks. Downsides: The extra battery costs almost as much as the player and the power cord is bulky and isn't compatible with anything else, I think. We hauled this all over Europe without a problem. There may be better deals out there now, but I am satisfied with this unit.

Pint-Sized Player Packs Powerful Picture 2003-04-22
Having pressed my nose against enough windows admiring these portable DVD players over the last few years, I saw the DVD-LV50 in a store one day and fell in love. I just had to have one, and when my PS2 started having problems playing certain discs, that - and falling prices -- were the excuses I needed.

At first I was struck by a few negatives about the DVD-LV50. Contrary to what some stores say, it only has a single monaural speaker, which seems cheap and ill-advised in a unit retailing for six big ones and packing state-of-the-art audio processing.

I also think Panasonic should have included the larger rechargeable battery pack that runs for 3½ hours rather than the pack included that runs for two hours. Most folks will probably want to pop for a spare battery, and at only twenty dollars more than the two-hour pack, the bigger battery is probably the better choice.

But it's easy to overlook these quibbles when you see the picture on the DVD-LV50.

This is flat out the best image I think I've ever seen on a screen of ANY size. (In fairness, I don't believe I've seen HDTV, or if I have I didn't notice it.) Sharp, bright, with pure vivid colors and deep blacks, the picture quality is so good it's right off the chart. The picture really is almost three-dimensional, and the fact that it is appearing on a pint-sized player like this is rather astonishing.

Other owners who said you won't notice the diminutive size aren't kidding. The picture is that enticing. Plug in a pair of earbud headphones, and the DVD-LV50 makes a great companion when you're dining alone. Though I haven't yet traveled with the player, I'm sure it would save the day on a train or airplane as well, if you have enough battery power or access to an AC outlet.

One of the other significant pluses of the DVD-LV50 is its "free-floating" screen. Rather than being hinged to the back of the player as on most portables, the screen here rides on an articulated arm that hinges to the player. This gives you more flexibility adjusting the height and angle of the screen to optimize the picture.

Otherwise the player seems to work like gangbusters, tracking every problem disc I can throw at it with nary a glitch or hiccup. One little detail that's very slick is the way the screen fades to black when you turn the power off - nice! Slow motion is also very smooth - guys know how important this feature is!

In conclusion, the DVD-LV50 is quite a technological achievement, if a mite pricey. The day the price comes down ..., however, these players will simply fly off the shelves.
