Wood splitter

I have been using one of these for a few years. It has worked well until recently. It started leaking hydraulic fluid everywhere. I'm not sure if I can fix it or even get gaskets for it.

It would have been nice to know about the electrical requirements before buying this machine.(Separate circuit w/time lag fuse).I contacted "FISCH"twice by e-mail, and 3 times by phone, with ZERO responses.Apparently they don't do "customer service".GOOD LUCK.I would suggest getting another brand.
Performs as advertised

This log splitter received good reviews in my research before I bought it. Turns out those reviews were accurate. The splitter is easy to use, even my wife feels comfortable operating it. It splits whole and half logs with relative ease. Very satisfied.
Nice little splitter

i bought this without spending any time checking it out. it was the only one available locally under $1100 (paid $374 out the door) and the guy told me if i wasn't happy, bring it back. i told him it would take one log to find out. i started with a 14"X 16" long green, knotty fir round i'd planned on stacking with the others in the sun for a year or two before splitting. this pup went right through it with no problem. i am amazed after being subjected to the sales media propaganda online about needing at least 6 tons, etc. i put it on a 14" high table which is perfect. on the negative side, there should be a setting so the return could be set according to wood length so you didn't have to wait for a reset for a 20" log and it should push the log further. it stops 6" short of the wedge instead of 1" or so but at this price, i'll deal with it. i cut some 4X4 blocks of various lengths to keep it from returning further than i need or to push the log through. tip- don't tell anyone you have it if you want to keep it home. j
This splitter is perfect for what I bought it for

I bought this splitter to split the oak and almond I have for my outdoor pizza oven. Oak and Almond are very hard wood and I was concerned it would do the job. I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived and set up was easy and I was splitting logs in 15 minutes. It worked great. Though I would recommend buying some hydrolic oil ahead of time as they gave me a small amount in a big bottle that may have leaked. I still have to go out and get some. I don't know this product's longjevity as I have only used it a few times but I hope it lasts.
Easy does it

Don't mess with a maul--this affordable log splitter does the work in a fraction of the time. This log-splitting machine from Fisch features a 2-horsepower motor that packs a whopping 4 tons of ram power. It can slice logs up to 20 inches long and 12 inches in diameter, and unlike your back, it can go all day without complaining. The wide-stance design provides plenty of stability, and its rugged construction will stand up to a long life of hard work. Fisch built it big enough to handle tough logs but small and lightweight enough for one person to easily move. It will even fit in the trunk of most cars. Best of all, the affordable price tag puts it within reach of most homeowners. Get your firewood chopped early this year, without wrecking your back in the process.

Not a thing wrong with it. Splits seasoned walnut and white oak in dimensions of length and diameter far in excess of the limits advertised. Using non-stick cooking spray definitely does help, but that's only needed for the toughest knotty pieces. True, it did not come with nearly enough hydraulic oil, but that's just a small quibble. Ordinary jack oil works fine, contrary to other reports here. Bottom line: excellent value (and 4 tons is quite sufficient).
3 years and 60 cord later.

I really wanted to test this splitter out before writing a review. I have split about 60 face cord of wood ( black cherry, oak , maple, black locust, etc) over the past 3 years with this splitter. I pushed it by loading overwidth logs and some with knotty problems. Up until this summer it has handled almost everything. This past winter I used it inside for some additional splits. This summer it started to leak hydraulic oil badly. I hope it is just a gasket as everything else seems to be okay. Downsides - the wheels are too small for traversing uneven terrain in my yard. I use a dolly. It doesn't push all the way to the wedge so you may need a block of wood to insert to push a log all the way through. Upsides - this handled more cords, faster and larger width than I had thought it would.
Don't waste your money

The first one I bought had a bad pump. The retailer immediately gave me a new unit. I chalked that up to be a fluk. The second one I got is now two years old and has only been used to split appx. 8 cords of wood. There is absolutely no ram pressure. It will not split pine that is 3 years seasoned. It has never run low on fluid and has been stored in my garage out of the elements. It looks like the pump is bad again. This is VERY DISAPPOINTING!! An absolute waste of money. I recommend buy anything else of get some excerise and split it with an axe like I now have to do.
