Customer Reviews
Easy to install, if you are willing to follow directions, and I am not a comptuer whiz!

I read all the reviews, and yet decided to purchase this modem. My experience was that it was easy to install, following their printed directions. I did not have to call customer service. You really need to make sure you install the software as directed before plugging in the modem (but it tells you to do that). I did need to put the supplied disk in the drive again to look for the driver (and found it, of course). I'm moderately computer savey - but no whiz by any means. The modem is working well and we are quite pleased with it.
IT's junk just junk

The one that I receaved just didn't work.
I would have been happy if it would have done caller ID.
Thats all I wanted it to do but it couldent even do that.
Best recomdation I can make if your looking for a good modem look elsewhere.
Win2000/DE5671 USB Modem

Installs efficiently, great speed, just do not bother with Netwaiting software as it doesn't work with Zoom or Creative--get an Emerson Switchboard, which works great. The only flaw I can find is after Windows 2000 Pro shutsdown, the shutdown hangs and the computer will not shut-off unless turning off the power supply. Tech Support was great but they do not have the answer. The modem must be unplugged before you can shutdown or driver disabled. Bios and drivers analyzed but no answers. Although inconvenient, I must say, the DE5671 connects on first ring, has great speed and is worth the inconvenience.
Locks up my new computer
2005-04-08
Anywhere from 1 second to 20 minutes after going on line (it does that just fine), my whole system locks up completely and the hard reset button must be pushed.
Found and downloaded the most recent drive from the creative site, but that has not helped.
I have a dedicated line for internet with no call waiting or any other features, all diagnostics say the modem is fine. Nontheless, once connected it is only a matter of time before it locks up everything. Definately not worth getting.

Junk Modem

Do NOT buy this piece of crap!!!!!
This voice modem has the poorest sound quality that I've ever heard. Awful clicking sounds to boot!
You can barely hear your caller's message.
When receiving a voice meaasage, Modem Blaster keeps the phone off hook for at least an additional 45 seconds after caller's hangup.....quite annoying.
It works OK for faxing only.
Like another reviewer said, the software is Mickey Mouse at best. The drivers are not even Microsoft WHQL certified.
It didn't even remove the Creative Modem Blaster Applet in Control Panel upon uninstallation. I had to go in and remove it manually.
It also likes to take over the phone line even when you pick up the phone after only a couple rings. There are two obnoxious pickup/hangup sounds heard by both you and your caller.
I cannot say enough bad things about this junky modem.
I replaced it with an internal generic PCI Data, Fax, Voice modem. It works flawlessly.....thank God!!!!!!
Creative should stick with sound cards only!!!!!!!
I'm done!
Well, I Sure Couldn't Get It To Work!

Creative Modem Blaster DE5671-1 (S/N ZSBF0122717000639A) sure was a wasted afternoon; for nothing. New drivers from the website, etc etc new phone cable, several different software packages etc. Never could get the caller id to work (my only purpose for the device). I tried the AT+ string posted here until my fingers were blue; no joy.
Unless you enjoy rebuilding electronics, forget about it.
lousy documentation

Just got it working by:
opening hyperterminal, typing
AT+VCID=1
that enabled caller ID that is apparently disabled by default.
I found that info on the web somewhere. The doc had nothing about that.
I only bought the modem to use for a software answering machine and call blocking so getting caller ID working was crucial.
Creative USB Modem v.92

This is a great USB external modem which fuctions very well. Best for Windows 2000, ME, XP and Vista. VISTA drivers ARE AVAILABLE in 32 and 64 bit @ Creative Labs web site. Perfect choice for an external modem when there is no room inside your computer with an available PCI slot for an internal one. Great for sending and receiving faxes via computer which I do.
Piece of junk

I've been building and troubleshooting computers since the early '90's, and I picked up one of these for a friend's almost new Toshiba laptop whose own modem was faulty. I spent a whole day trying to get it to work, nothing but odd error messages and stuff. And of course the usual too many programs that Creative wants to install (which I let happen just to ensure that it was a standard install). After about nine hours, I went back to BestBuy and returned this modem and got a cheapo Dynex pcmcia 56k modem for the same price. It worked on the first try.
Creative Labs really isn't a name I trust anymore.
Caller id performance
2006-11-07
I purchased this modem to display caller id information for a contact manager program I have.
It works 100% of the time to report every call!
Most other modems worked on reporting about 80% of the time!
Tech support was excellent too at helping me remove the old modem drivers on my XP machine.
