excellent low-price printer 2005-06-20
I have this printer for one and a half year. I've never had a single paper jam or other problem and I've printed thousands of pages. It's a fast printer; in standard print quality it prints about 10 pages of text & color diagrams per minute. The canon software is full of options for resizing, printing multiple slides-pages per page, photo printing (with canon photo paper),duplex printing, auto or manual color adjustment etc. The different ink cartridges are not expensive and they are compatible with many other canon printers. My next printer (if this one ever dies) will be a canon.

Figured out how to do 5X7 prints 2004-12-26
This printer turns out excellent photos, and the print head hasn't died yet, but I haven't used it as much as some people might. I tried all day today to figure out how to do 5X7's and discovered that if I put the jpeg photo into Photoshop and size it to 5X7, it will print at that size on a "letter" sized piece of photo paper. However, you end up wasting a lot of paper because you have to cut the 5X7 from the paper. What was I thinking, buying a printer that didn't print 5X7's? What was Canon thinking, making a printer like that. I'll be darn sure next time that I have the flexibility I need in a printer.

Worst money on a printer you can buy 2004-11-03
I purchased this printer a year ago at Best buy for around 150 dollars. Since then it has worked fine and i was happy with it, up until now. Today it starting printing some weird streaks all over pictures, and i ran the clean print head option at least 6 times and it still prints the ugly green lines across the page.
I thought Canon would make a decent printer, but they have provem me wrong and I will never purchase one again.

Printhead dead after 15 months 2004-11-02
My first (and last) Canon printer. Always had, and been pleased with, HP printers in the past and my next will be an HP.

This i850 worked well till the print head just died. I've been quoted £63.00 for a new one. NO WAY!

Jim

Bad Printer Head 2004-05-31
After 12 months of use the printer head went bad. I had problems with printing the color red. I've bought Canon printers in the past and really liked them but this is a bummer ... I'll think twice before I get another one.

too much trouble 2007-12-09
We had this printer for about 3 years. When it is working well, it works well. On the other hand, a small amount of dust in the printer caused horrible smudging and ruined photos. Impossible to clean. No instructions for cleaning the inside of the printer to stop smudging. I managed to wipe some out with my finger the first time, but that didn't last long as now it is doing it again and I can't see anything in there (yes we close the covers on a regular basis), so must be something stuck on the print head itself. No way to get under there. Also we have had to constantly realign this thing for some reason, and visible lines were a problem. We aren't computer experts, just regular people who want to print at home without problems. This printer has too many issues. Also it takes a long time to get going when you are waiting to print something and is very noisy.

5-stars well deserved! 2007-09-14
The Canon i850 photo printer deserves to be in the spotlight. It is an amazing consumer product. I bought this printer 5 years ago, and not only has it been reliable, it still prints photos just as well as all the new printers out there.

This is great for anyone, it not only prints photos, but it does a great job with regular documents; it prints them in seconds! I haven't seen such speed in some of the top of the line consumer printers!

Canon printers are amazing, especially this part of the "i" series!

One of the best inkjet printers out there! 2007-08-31
The Canon i850 hits the price-point sweet spot & delivers value consistently. I bought mine new in 2002 & it still works perfectly after 5 years of use.

It's good to see that a used one is now worth more than what I paid for it back then, but given the quality and reliability of this printer, I don't see when I'd ever sell it.

Ultimately, if you're in the market for an inkjet, get this one if you can.

Excellent Printing 2005-11-29
This was my first photo printer and I still tend to compare other models to this one. The print quality and speed on Canon Photo Paper is excellent. Having individual tanks has been a blessing. I've actually run into situations where the yellow runs out while all other colors are still usable. Even regular printing jobs are done admirably well.

worked for just about 15 months 2005-06-21
The printer head has to be replaced, it worked for almost 15 months. Also bought a Canon G3 digital camera for $600 that quit working at 13 months, conveniently when just out of warranty. Canon wants $185 to just look at the camera- repairs possibly more $. Canon has horrible customer service- buyer beware!
