Best. Magazine. Ever.
2008-03-27
BEST MAGAZINE EVER!!! Ignore all of the one-star reviews; they haven't a clue what they are saying. I'm a dedicated subscriber. Muse has the right combination of wits, info, and COMPLETE RANDOM USELESS facts to keep any child who can read (ignore the age 9-14 thingy; I started at 8) entertained for weeks to come and impatiently awaiting the mail for their issue.
It is the most flamablamablous magazine ever; buy this for your kid. If you start to see an intense fear of hot-pink bunnies and a great love of pies afterward... we had NOTHING to do with it. Really.

Muse is the finest magazine for ANYONE. It is humorous and scientific. I love it! Whoever doesn't like it is missing something great!

When my 10 year old Grandson received his first issue he sat down and went through it non stop. He is still quoting it.
How wonderfully delightful!

This magazine ROCKS! It's funny, interesting, and (slightly) educational! This magazine, the sacred Muse, deserves an extra 5 stars. Maybe even more. Really, there should be more magazines in the world like this.
Awesomeness!

Muse seeks to stimulate, delight, and challenge every curious kid ages 9 - 14. Sponsored by Smithsonian and from the publishers of Cricket, Muse features articles on space, genetics, rain forests, computers, physics, math, visual arts, earth sciences, and almost everything else in the universe.
Flamablamabous!

This magazine fosters inquisitive minds. It contains a healthy mix of absorbing and relevant articles, mind bogglingly weird truths, and some off-the-wall silliness. Speaking as a long-time reader and subscriber, I am willing to assert that it has helped me with my schoolwork and acted as an intellectually stimulating stress breaker when I was feeling lugubrious. With friendly, imaginative cartoon characters and "learn more" references in the margins, I always feel as though I am opening a gift when it arrives in the mail. This is one of the few magazines suitable for my age group that I can read without feeling as though I should be doing something more constructive. Cricket Magazine group has hit upon a classic!
This mag deserves a sixth star!!!

I have been getting this magazine for over six years now and just love it more every issue I get! Though it's listed for kids ages 9-14, the readers love it so much they've been known to take it to college! Full of understandable explanations for relatively complex topics (take the recent article on epigenetics) and a unique brand of silly fun, I highly recommend this mag for any adolescent who loves science and has a creative and inquisitive mind.
Sophisticated stuff, interesting for kids

If I listed the topics Muse covers, you'd never imagine
that anyone would be excited about it. It's just
so well done, though. My kids read it instantly,
cover to cover, and they even push it to their friend's
parents.
Even more oddly, most of it is good for adults, too.
At least, for adults who haven't had all the curiosity
and silliness beaten out of them. And, it's even right!
(I used an article in a University course I teach.)
It has a little of the flavour of Buckaroo Banzai,
of Dark Star (the Movie), of Larry Gonick's Cartoon Guides,
a touch of (but only a touch) of Horrible Histories...
There isn't anything quite like it. I hope they can
keep it up.

Muse magazine is in a class by itself. It has NO advertisements, no articles about how to make yourself prettier or any other boring stuff that shallow teens care about. We musers love the focus on science and math, and they've replaced the original mythological muses with 9 of their own. These little cartoons litter the margins with their witty comments, making the rare tedious article funny. Receiving this magazine is your ticket into the close-knit community of Musers, kids who have openness and learning at the heart of all their doings.
