Quality you would expect from Steiner

These binoculars have good clarity and field of view. The eye relief is sufficient for me to use them without pushing my glasses up. This is important for my father, as the vision in his one eye has deteriorated to the point that without his glasses there is not enough adjustment in most binos.The eyepieces are indexed so that people can pass them back and forth with minimal trouble. One thing to note is that these are no center adjust. You adjust them for distance and they are focused down to about 30' or so. This makes them inconvenient for looking at things close up, but from 50' and out you never need to focus. Might be problem for birdwatchers, but it works for me.

One aside is that they do have the weight of fullsize binos, so an important consideration is how much you need to carry them. I find myself using a pair of compact as much or more when I am going out for all day.

I'm impressed with the quality and feel of these binoculars. Their weight is not heavy but they are not too light either and are comfortable to hold.

They come with a case, strap for the case, bino strap, lens cloth and attached lens covers.

The color is an attractive dark brown and the lettering is a butter yellow color which isn't too bad. The nylon strap is black with yellow/gold edge that matches the yellow lettering. The ribs on the exterior are rounded as shown in the photo. About a year ago my friend ordered a Military Marine binocular which had rounded ribs in the dealer's photo but it showed up with square ribs so I was happy to get a binocular that looked like the one the photo.

Looking through it the first thing I noticed was the narrow Field Of View. The description states 390' at 1,000 yards. Steiner's website states the same but other internet dealer's websites state 360' at 1,000 yards. I emailed Steiner asking them to confirm the FOV and at the time of writing this I still have not heard back from them.

I have an Olympus WP1 which has a FOV of 315' at 1,000 yards. These 8x30 Safari's have a very similar field of view which is far from the advertised 390'. This was a major let down!

After using them for several extended glassing sessions I got used to the fixed focus and despite the narrow field of view they were not straining on my eyes. I'm guessing that's because I didn't have to continually re-focus for the various distances for the objects that I was looking at. Everything is always in focus which makes these the easiest binoculars to use that I've experienced.

The optics are pretty good, especially for this price, but there is a little fuzz at the outer edges.

If the advertised FOV was correct I would have rated this item with 4 stars.

Great Value and Viewing

This is a great pair of binoculars. I bought it for a safari trip and enjoyed every minute of it. They are light on the face and very easy to focus. Once you've set the eye distance and the focus of the binoculars for your eyes, everytime you look through it, it will be perfect.

The price point of this pair of binoculars is excellent. You truly are getting a quality product which won't break the bank.

PERFECT Travel/Wildlife Binoculars

I like mine so much that I'm buying another pair of Steiner Safari binoculars from Amazon as a gift. The pair I have are perfect for all around travel use. They're small enough to fit into a pocket while trekking to a good birding spot and are unobtrusive around the neck on safari. They're powerful enough to pull those wildlife sightings in close but don't force you to steady them on a tripod because of too much power. I've taken them on two African safaris, to Iguazu Falls in South America and most recently birding on the Mekong River in Laos. I found that an added bonus was the rubber coated shell, allowing them to get banged around without damage. Their small size also means less room in your carry-on luggage as well as being easily hidden when traversing shaky Third World city streets. Guides on my travels who've taken a look are always thoroughly impressed. For the money the Steiner Safari can't be beat!

Steiner 8x30 Safari Binocular is great for my 9 yrs old son. It is much better than the one I bought few weeks earlier and ended up returning the product (I bought Bushnell 12 x 50mm Powerview Wide-Angle Binoculars from Walmart online). Steiner makes good binocular. The shipment from the vendor was prompt. I'm happy with this purchase.

We recently took these binoculars on a safari to East Africa. Having your own pair of binocs is very important and these work wonderfully. The clarity of view and not having to reset the focus each time are very important attributes. You might think larger and more powerful binocs are necessary, but the closeness of wildlife did not require that.

Good Item

We purchased and used these binoculars on a recent hunting trip. Optics are superb and they are light enough to wear full time. I also like the individual focus adjustment, a feature not found on many competitive brands. If I could ask for any improvement, it would be a wider field of view. Mayby I'm just spoiled by the larger (and heavier) 7x50's I have used previously.

These binoculars are a superior product. Steiner is well known for outstanding optics and the Safari is no discount product. They are light weight and relatively compact. They will make a great hunting glass that can be packed easily. The sport focus is an great feature, no matter what the range you are looking at, the focus is precise.
