They are age appropriate for my kid. She loves it and scarfs it up when it comes in the mail.
Well Done, Good Variety, Holds Interest

We have been getting this for nearly a year. My girl is eight and she loves the games and articles. I appreciate the humor and the fact that the puzzles are not too hard that she can't do them on her own. This has helped her reading skills and has kept her occupied for many hours. The crafts have only required my slight help in helping her to gather tools and other ingredients needed to complete them. I am taking off one star because, like the National Geographic Kids Magazine, there are just so many advertisements for this franchise. We already know about many of the other wonderful American Girls products, but I always hope to limit what my kids see (and end up wanting) so we can afford things and have to say no less. So I would rather a magazine like this have less ads and focus more on the articles and issues. I guess I am just wasting my breath and brain power in wishing for things like that in the world of today, but I remember magazines and books when I was a kid that didn't advertise so many other things, and I was perfectly content with them.
This is a fantastic magazeen for any age.

Im twelve years old and I simply enjoy AG magazeen. I love how compared to other girls magazeens it dosn't give you tips on what you should do if a boy likes you or how you should wear your hair. It makes you feel as though you are good enogh as you are and that is how every girl should feel when they read this magazeen. I pearsnally recomend this opposed to Discovery Girls although a great magazeen, I do read it and I modeld in the issue currently out, Ag girls dosn't make you feel quit so judged so your young girls should feel good about them selves after reading this page turner magazeen.
From a purely academic standpoint...well maybe not "purely"

I'm a magazine major in college, and I'm studying AG this semester. I actually wanted to thank you all for your great comments on Amazon- beleive it or not, they're really helpful for my research paper!
I was a huge fan of AG as a young girl, and honstly, even at 18 I'm finding that more than just researching the magazine, I'm really enjoying reading it. This is, in my opinion, the only respectable magazine left for young girls. It will never ask you to grow up too quickly or to change who you are. It will never tell you there's a certain way to act around boys, or wear your hair, or paint your lips. It doesn't insult with dribble about scandals and celebrities. AG glorifies girls. It asks their input, and really cares about the feedback (yes, I found out from interviewing the founding editor that they actually file every piece of reader mail for future reference). I urge you to get this publication for your daughters. It is truly exceptional.
Good Choice for Young Girls
2007-02-16
I am happy that there is a good magazine out there for young girls like my 8 year old sister. She loves this magazine, for the fun stories and games and all the cool ideas. I am just glad that she still wants to be a kid and isnt in a hurry to grow up. So many girls get sucked into the insane world of spending a lot of money on latest fashions, obsessing over you hair not being perfect every single second, covering your face in make up that you wont need for another 10 years, and of course, constantly worrying about boys. Little kids deserve to be little kids. And I thank AG for trying to preserve childhood for its young readers.
P.S. The reason for the 4 stars is that AG could be just a little longer.
American Girl
2007-02-10
Created especially for girls age 8 and up, American Girl is an appealing, age-appropriate alternative to teen magazines. Features advice, crafts, contests, puzzles, games, giggles, and more!
Wholesome magazine for pre-teens

My little girl loves the magazine, and was grateful to have it renewed.
I Love American girl and Discovery girls, I'm 13

I won't lie, I still love American Girl, it's really neat and I love it, even though I'm thirteen years old I don't care what anyone says like 'oh my gosh you still read this'? I would say 'Yes I do.' I also love Discovery girls the same as American girl, Here are the Pro's and cons'
Pro's
American girl let's any age be the model
the magazine doesn't put on the cover "for girls ages 7-up" because then,
girls of other ages would say "no way jose`"
They have appropriate stuff in there
CONS
they don't do Celebrity interviews like Discovery Girls Does
The magazine only comes out two months like 'febuary' 'april.' that sort of thing
The magazine is just way to expensive! I mean, when I want an issue I practically have to cough up all my cash to pay for it!
I'm doing the smart thing now, I'm buying Back issues of American girl On ebay, and the amazing thing is, they sell them for only 2.99!!! Jeez!
I have 12 issues of Discovery Girls, and 11 issues of American girl
The Good thing is, American Girl makes a Gumbo Summer issue, so that's good!
Look for my other reviews ******** They have stars at the bottom! =]
Not just for little kids
2007-01-26
For one thing, just because there are kids who are obssesed with boys and makeup at age 11, doesn't mean that all 10 year olds decided to be 16. If youre 11 and not boy crazy, thats a good thing, and you'll like this magazine. If you're pretending youre 5 years in the future, fine, read all the teen stuff and leave this magazine alone. Its a good magazine, even though the person who said that the quizzes put lables on people has a point. I like the recipies and art projects, but my favorite part is the short story section. If you're looking for a magazine with advice on boys and makeup, this is not your magazine, but if you want a great read, get it.
p.s. the only flaw is that it comes once every 2 months.
Very Good for younger kids
