Editorial Review
Sony's DPP-EX5 is a digital photo printer that uses dye sublimation technology, a process that creates durable lab-quality prints in vivid color, monochrome, sepia or paint tone. It is packed with built-in editing and creative tools, making it easy to adjust image sharpness, contrast, brightness and size. These tools also enable users to select and merge images as well as incorporate personalized messages into any print. In addition to being PC and Mac compatible via a USB connection and Sony's supplied software drivers, the DPP-EX5 can also connect to a television for larger viewing and editing of photos in the den or living room, just like the slide shows of the past. Each print from DPP-EX5 is laminated with Super Coat 2 laminate to seal and protect every photo, giving durability to withstand fading, spills, moisture and fingerprints. It also supports the Exif print standard, which significantly improves the printing process through color consistency and final output quality, and comes bundled with a self-cleaning cartridge to help maintain and clean each printer at home. In addition, DPP-EX5 can print on the new 3.5" x 5" borderless print paper as well as the current 4" x 6" and 3.5" x 4" print sizes, offering consumers greater flexibility in their printing options.

Great little printer! 2004-04-08
I bought this printer in January 2004 with a Sony Digital camera. I was amazed at the color and quality of the prints that come out of this little printer. I started out using the printer connected to a TV. Very easy to set up (connect one cable, select video on the TV) and start using. Since then I've purchased a USB cable and connected it to my PC. Connecting it to the PC (running XP Pro) was a snap - not as fast as connecting to a TV, but not difficult using the User's Manual. You do have to install printer drivers, but the installation wizard was trouble free. The printer paper packs are not cheap, but I love being able to print what I want, when I want!

Best And Affordable Dye-Sub Printer 2004-03-26
This printer is awsome, its only 200 bucks, which is a good price for a dye-sublimation printer. This baby prints lab quality prints im telling you. My only wish is that Sony would make a version that can print up to 5x7, that would be so great. Even if you dont have a computer, with this you can hook it right up to your tv and use the effects and print. It can print 3x5, 4x6, and little mini stickers which are cool. The stickers are just like the ones you can make out those little booths that charge like 4 dollars. You can make your own much cheaper with this, its awsome!

Great Deal for the Money Invested! 2004-03-19
I just purchased the DPP-EX5 printer and I'm very pleased with the quality of pictures it prints. It's size it's quite portable and is very user friendly, just wasted one sheet while hooking it up on a PC. Like other opinions, I think the quality of the picture taken will determine how good the print will be. I suggest for all those interested, get a good digital camera, perhaps a Sony and then just do your shots and print them, you will be more than satisfied with this printer.

expensive prints 2004-01-11
This printer prints good pictures for a home printer but does not compare to Kodak processing. The pictures are more grainy and have more of a yellow cast, and are much lighter. If you compare a picture printed from this printer and the same one printed from Kodak you can see the big difference. Also my printer did not print the textured finish like the manual says so I called Sony to find that my printer was defective?? For the price and for home quality it is O.K but I returned mine!!

Prints are costly!!

Exetremely nice output if you can load the color profile 2004-01-09
I am very pleased with the photos from this printer. Its as if I had them printed by the photo center. I don't like the cost per print, and the lack of the better price per print 75 packs in my local stores.
I don't have a Sony camera and print from my computer. The first 25 prints were really bad even with all the tweaking I attempted in Photoshop. I'm pretty new to digital photography and was using Photoshop at work. A fellow co-worker pointed out that I needed to load the ICC Profile that came with the printer and map the profile in the mode setting. Now if I do auto levels and just print, they look spectacular.
I hope Sony sells the printer/paper packs for a while since the printer will be useless the day they stop manufacturing them.

Overall my family is amazed at the photos and how I can print off a picture for them in a few short minutes after we take them.

Excellent printing directly from iPhoto 2007-12-29
if you are a mac user, this is a great deal for a darn good dye sub printer! install the OSX driver and off you go into iPhoto-land printing all your pictures using all sorts of themes from within iPhoto. my fave tho' is the tried and true simple white edged border. it also does edge to edge no problem. this is NOT a substitute for kodak services if that's your bag, but for at-home creativeness and family album fun this can not be beat. i like to use it with "Comic Life" to add captions and make postcards. it is too much fun, low hassle, and creates great looking prints. so when you are ready to toss the ink jet out the window in frustration, for postcard size prints, check out this little unit.

A+ Printing Quality 2007-03-10
Its printing quality is as good as those kiosk from the department store. I bought it pre-owned and in a great condition, with no manual (I still do not know how to use all the way) I didn't know prior to acquiring this product that it only takes sony printing sheets and that they are so difficult to find and expensive to buy. Its printing quality deserves an A+

Perfect 2004-11-27
I've been an avid amateur photographer for over 20 years, and I can tell you the prints from this printer are top notch and lab quality.

The color rendition is extemely accurate so long as you properly load the Sony printer driver. Those of you who get unexpected results may because of the quality or calibration of your computer monitor. I have not noticed, as some have, that any color is particularly bright or vivid. The price per print is a little hefty, around $0.65 per print if your buy the larger 75 print kit, but of course you only print the ones you really like. Be advised that Sony does not include in the box any starter print cartridge or paper in the box, so you must buy these separatly.

Love this printer!!! 2004-08-20
The print quality is awesome, I am using a Sony Cybershot 5 megapixel camera. I took it out of the box and loaded the paper, cartridge and memory stick and started printing right away! It has so many features. You can edit your pics right on your television then print. It has many editing features as well! My only concern is that it does't come with a USB cable, but that can always be purchased at a later time. Overall, this is an excellent photo printer.
