Best Album of Decade 2k0 Hands Down
2007-08-26
I am not going to bore you or try to make you believe I am some kind of musical genius or anything.
I just want to post the claim (with confidence I might add) that this is shaping up to be the best/signature album of the decade. I know that there is still a couple of years left; but I am reasonably confident that Britney Spears or anyone out of American Idol are pretty much incapable of producing anything of greater impact than this.
Alls I can say, is that the world is somewhere in between "Can You Light my way?" and "Shadow on the Sun" these days...
"Audioslave" is brilliant!

"Audioslave" is brilliant! This is an brilliant debut from one of the most short-lived and in my opinion, well-loved rock bands of 21st century, so far.

A mix of the bands Soundgarden and Rage Against The Machine WORKS for this group. Chris Cornell's career on his own wasn't so hot, but these guys are UNBEATABLE together.
I Am The Highway is a favorite, but Show Me How To Live is destined to be (already is on local rock radio) a classic!
This album received much hype - and deservedly so. There IS no weak track on this CD.
SOUL POWER!!!!

It's amazing how two smilar bands breaking up can make such a monumental callaboration of artists. R.A.T.M. and Soundgarden had both broken up year before this release, Chris Cornell's unsucessful solo project and deprature from his grunge roots didn't earn him any cred with manstream rock artists. Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk were basiclly atalis after the split of "Rage" and it seems like it was fate for these people to collied in there musical endevores. But it still blows my mind that the guys from "Rage" joined forces with Chris Cornell? Sound pretty crazy if you put youself in the 90's When both bands were together and striving in their sucess. But this album lived up to every little bit of hype it received.
1. Cochise- Classic heavy rocker with one of the most legendary riffs in the past decade. Sounds simillar to a song of the heavy metal band "Pantera" but this song surpases any triumphs of "Pantera"'s song. Little known fact; Cochise is the name of an Indian cheif.Cool helicopter sound at the begining to. 5/5
2. Show Me How To Live- Another great riff by Tom on this on, and Chris's soul shattering vocals don't hurt either. 5/5
3. Gasoline- Rock on!! I was surprised at how heavy this album was a hard rocker, the riff might not be as good some earlier tracks, but it still keeps it going. 5/5
4. What You Are- Grunge, Grunge, Grunge is what this song is. My second favorite song on here. Personal lyrics and a heavy destortion riff make this a classic. Tom also dose an excellent job on this, providing a cool melodic solo that fits the song well. 5/5
5. Like A Stone- Finally the big hit singal, the first Audioslave song I ever heard, and one of the best. Chris's vocal could peal the paint of walls on this one. 5/5
6. Set it off- Set this f#@%er off!!!! This one of the best songs i've heard in years. Tom plays the riff backwards in the begining, more heavy lyrics and a pounding bass line. 5/5
7. Shadow Of The Sun- Not my fav but it's good. more of a ballad thing goin' on. it gets better near the end. 4.5/5
8. I Am The Highway- My favorite song on the album, and definately the best lyrics. Chris comperes two things that can only work if there together, a he's getting the raw end of the deal. Tom's accustic solo is a nice change of pace. 5/5
9. Exploder- Cool song nice to speed things up after "I Am The Highway". Very cold and dark lyrics on this one. 4/5
10. Hypnotized- Little more techno sound. I can't put my finger on it but the bass riff seems oddly familiar. 4.5/5
11. Bring Em Back Alive- Heaviest song on the album, bottom line. With a soul draining solo provided by Soul Power. Awsome!! 5/5
12. Light My Way- It seems like this riff gets a bit repeitive after a while. 4/5
13. Getaway Car- This song is a little repeitive to but the talking accustic guitar is what makes this interesting. 4/5
14. The Last Remaining Light- Not the best way to end the album, it sounds almost exactily like "Like A Stone" and really goes no where. 3.5/5
If this had of stopped at track 11 it would be perfect. all and all great album- Chuck
Audioslave =Lyrical Masters!!!

When I heard RATM was gaining Chris Cornell as the lead vocalist for their new band Audioslave, I was a little wary...I was never into Soundgarden all that much, however, I think Cornell is great in Audioslave...This album I particularly like, as most of my favorite Audioslave songs(Cochise, and Bring Em' Back Alive) are on it. They have good lyrics, and Morello's solos are very innovative and intriguing(although not as good as RATM). A great band for the casual rock listener, and I highly recommend it!
Great

Chris Cornell has such a distinct voice. I could listen to Stone over and over all day and not get sick of it.

Wow, how much do I not like this album--lets just say I'm still trying to work my way up to a second listen. The only songs I really like are the ones I'd heard before I bought the album. I could have just played them on YouTube and been happy. There are only five good songs on the whole thing, in my book that's not good enough. I found myself getting irritated little over halfway through. What is going on here? I thought I found a sure bet and all I found was regret.
Best album ever!

I had this CD in my car player for six months and listened to it every day. I love it! I still listen to it often. Rough and hard but not in a grating annoying way. Skillful music and lyrics. Buy it and rock out!!
Audioslave, what can I say?

Audioslave is not quite hard rock or soft pop or mainstream alternative. It almost has a hint of jazz.
