Operating the Scale Place the scale on flat, level surface. A hard surface, such as a tile or linoleum floor, is the best for maximum accuracy. If the scale is placed on a very soft, deep rug, then it may not produce accurate results. Once the scale is placed on an appropriate surface, locate the zero adjustment control on the edge of the scale and set the indicator to zero. Next, step on and off the scale to check the accuracy of the zero setting. If the pointer does not return to zero, then you should repeat the zero adjustment. When the zero setting is deemed accurate, step on the scale and position your feet to distribute your weight evenly over the entire scale platform. Stand still while reading the display for the most accurate results.
Note: It is normal for your weight to vary during the day, and from one day to another. Slight changes in your weight are generally considered normal.

Large but good quality
2008-06-20
This is a large scale that takes up a bit of floor space but it is more reliable than any digital scale I've ever had. It's very helpful to put a strip of sticky note or colored tape on the scale where you put your heels so that you are able to stand in exactly the same place every time you step on, because your position on the scale can make your weight reading vary by up to 4 pounds. I'm not looking for absolute accuracy, but consistency is important. As long as you're standing in the same spot on the scale the readings are very consistent. When you step off the scale make sure the dial goes back to zero. It's easy to adjust. I'd recommend this scale to everyone.

Have to keep adjusting the scale to zero. This can become a pain in the neck at times. But it does the correct weight.
Limitations of spring-scale technology
2008-06-07
I usually weigh myself on the doctor's scale at the gym, and I guess I had forgotten the limitations of spring-scale technology. The HAP200KD-41 is sturdy, the dial is easy to read, but the reading can fluctuate by 2 lb or more if you shift your stance. Very annoying when you are trying to monitor weight loss that is probably in the 2 lb per week range. I gave up and bought a digital, having realized that digital technology has improved greatly since I last tried it in a bathroom scale.
Very, Very Good: Accurate, Durable
2008-06-03
I've had this scale for almost a year and it's still just as good as it was when I bought it. I know it's accurate because it gives me the same weight as all the scales at the doctor's office. It is big, but it's sturdy! It's not heavy though. It's a very nice quality. With other spring scales, the numbers on the display are usually too small to read (i'm 5'8 so i have a long way to look!) but with this one i can see it perfectly well. I recommend this to anyone who is looking for an accurate, durable scale.
Great analog scale

This scale is accurate, consistent, and easy to read. The tick marks are small but are not hard to make out. The adjuster works pretty well and seems flawless after two or three cycles of adjustment and testing. After the initial calibration, I didn't have to fool with the adjustment knob at all. I would buy this scale all over again and recommend it to a friend.
Excellent Choice!

Excellent buy
2008-05-11
It was bigger than I expected, but I am very pleased with it. I only had to reset it to zero twice and since then each time that I weigh myself it does go back to zero. I get accurate readings, unlike the digital scale that I had before it. I know this scale will not die after only a year and a half of use. No batteries to change and is very well made.
Very good scale

This scale works very good. It is built very well for a reasonable price. Easy to read numbers, and very accurate. I have stepped on and off several times and get the same weight every time
Inconsistent

Got this scale looking at all the good reviews, but this scale sucks, cuz the needle would just not stay at zero. Each time you step on it you have to readjust the needle to go back to zero and if you weight yourself on a surface which isn't level it doesn't give accurate weight...for me, just not worth the money, might as well spend a bit more and get something better.
Nice Product

I purchased this for my 87 year old Mother. She has home health care and the nurse wanted her to have a quality scale, they were both pleased with the scale.
