Terrific Poker Information
2008-02-17
This magazine is terrific if you are or know a poker player. It has a lot of information on tournaments, especially Texas Holdem. It has a good listing of the regular tournaments that happen in Las Vegas every day, although all the hotels are not in there. If you want to find out for sure if a specific hotel has a tournament you are best off to call that hotel to find out. Overall, though, this is a terrific magazine. It is a magazine that you find in Las Vegas by some of the poker rooms. If you order this magazine, though, be sure you follow the order process closely. I ordered it on December 14 and hadn't received it by February 8. I called the magazine itself and they did not have me on record. I had to call [...] who transferred me to their magazine department and they had advised I should have received it by January 13. They must have pushed it through because I received it about a week and a half later.

I have been reading and enjoying Card Player for many years. If you learn one great play, it will pay for subscriptions for life. It is a great gift for a friend. I used to bring copies back from Las Vegas, and the West Texas poker players loved them. I write about poker. I learned a lot from Card Player. Texas Poker Wisdom

Card Player magazine is the foremost authority on all things poker. Inside Card Player, you'll find page after page of informative playing strategy, poker articles by some of the greatest poker players in the game today, upcoming tournaments, as well as major poker tournament results. In each biweekly issue (26 issues per year), Card Player is on the scene with current reports and breaking news; if it has to do with poker, Card Player will report on the action.
Got to get it

If you are into poker this is the best magazine out there. It's one of those magazines you can pick up over and over again because it is full of outstanding articles by some of the leading poker pros. All of their writers (of which there are regulars and then guest writers) have an obvious passion for the game, which translates into very well written and useful articles about the game. You'll also get to read interviews with some of the most influential poker people out there.
At the back of every issue is a current list of where all the casino tournaments are around America. Last time I went to Vegas I found it especially useful because I knew where and when all the tournaments were at the buy in I was comfortable with.
The price is outstanding too (especially if you buy direct from Card Player themselves) because you get two issues a month. A low cost one year subscription gets you 26 issues, so you always have something current and interesting to read about poker.
I can't honestly see a downside. If you are into poker, buy it. If someone in your life loves poker, this would make a great gift.

For more than 16 years, Card Player magazine has been sharing the secrets of poker with its readers. Each biweekly issue (every 2 weeks) is filled with strategies, interviews, and analyses from top poker professionals, as well as insights and information on all things poker. CardPlayer.com is The Poker Authority !
Also, check out the book "52 TIPS FOR TEXAS HOLD 'EM POKER" written by Barry Shulman, the publisher of the magazine and web-site. Great book that will put you ahead of 90% of the players out there.
Very nice magazine, but...

... instead of buying a subscription you should go to www.cardplayer.com and see all the articles of any of their magazines up to and including the newest edition. Then if you feel so inspired to get print copies, it'll be alot cheaper to get it from the CardPlayer.com site.
The forum at the site has alot of good info too. You don't have to be a member to read from the forum. Good Luck!
5 Stars with an asterisk

That is, why pay to have it delivered when you can get it for free online at www.cardplayer.com. All the articles minus the full page ads. Plus all the archived issues back to March 30, 2001 (as of December 5, 2003). If you insist on getting the "paper" issues, you can still subscribe to the paper magazine at their website for less than what you'll get here.
That said, the magazine/website itself is definately worth 5 stars. It is more complete that any other poker-oriented magazine or website that I've seen.

Card Player Magazine - for people who play to win!

CPM is distributed for free in many card-rooms and casinos. Because of that more than half of the pages are full-page ads for gaming equiptment, for poker-tournaments and for card-rooms, brick & mortar as well as internet-based. If you (like I) live too far away to pick Card Player up for free twice a month it's a treat to have your copy brought to your mailbox. I've been an avid reader of CPM for many years, a subscriber for close to one year, and I'm a big fan.
All issues contains articles covering poker-strategy, low and medium stakes ring games and tournaments, reportage from big poker-tournaments, and legislative, judicical and taxation-related info. The articles are mostly written by professional poker-players from CPM's roster, including some of the most successful tournament players. It's not unusual to see the same tournament, sometimes even the same hand being analyzed and discussed by different players, each from their own perspective.
Articles on the psychology of poker, on common mistakes or misconceptions by players, and of course on the World Poker Tour all add up to make the magazine not only fun reading, but also a precious learning-tool for the aspiring poker-champion as well as the interested home-game amateur.
