Debian Linux's (Etch) best wireless freind
2008-06-19
This card was a snap to get working with my Debian Linux (Etch) laptop. It uses the madwifi linux driver and other utilities, most of which are on the Debian install disks. Don't bother with the ndiswrapper even if your wireless is built in, get this card instead and save yourself the headache..
Works great with Hardy Heron
2008-06-07
I did a little research before I bought this item, but at the time there was little documentation on hardware support for Hardy Heron (Ubuntu 8.04). According to the documentation I looked at I would need to do some configuration, but the card would eventually work under Ubuntu 7.10. The laptop I'm using it in has no built in NIC and I don't have a compatible one, so I was planning on getting a wired NIC too in order to install any packages I would need to use the card. When it arrived, I plugged it in, just for kicks, and it worked without any configuration! I never bothered to buy a wired card.
works in ubuntu

Drivers on web site for ubuntu linux. I used ndiswrapperto install. Works well. One con is that each time I restart I must manually go into network manager to connect.
Learning Curve
2008-06-01
Initially, understanding how to switch between Windows XP and D-Plus AirPlus configration utilites was a bit confusing. After I got though that, all went well until I decided I did not want to broadcast my router. That's when the fun began. When I would turn off my broadcast, I was not able to connect. After weeks of trying various things, I believe there were combination of factors contributing to my lack of reliable connection which included a cordless phone, neighbors on the same channel and the beacon inerval on the router. Now, most of the time I just plug in my card and I am connected depending on the utility I using. I guess I must like it. I just bought another one.
D-Link is relatively fast but not compatible with Dell Laptops
2008-05-12
I bought this product to get 2 Dell laptops on my network. These products
would not work properly with my Dell 3800 or Dell 5000. When plugged into
the laptop, the keys on the right side of the keyboard quit working. I tried three more different cards before I found some that worked properly.
The problem evidently was the laptops and not the D-Link DWO-G650 cards.

Excellent card. Speed is faster than wired. Extended range is a real plus. Easy set up and reliable connections. Recommend highly.

It Just Made My Laptop Freeze...
2008-06-22
I got this wireless card because I wanted to try to find one with a broader range than the one I currently have. This one seemed to be able to do the job, so I ordered it here on Amazon.
After installing the software and inserting the card, my laptop completely froze. Restarted my computer and tried again and again and again. Each time, the card froze my laptop. I even uninstalled then reinstalled and tried some more...no luck.
It could just be some sort of incompatibilty with my particular laptop, but I highly doubt it. I think its much more likely that this wireless adapter is a piece of junk.
