Was happy but... 2004-12-08
This unit is very nice for travel with lots of ways to view your dvd - battery which has lasted me 4 plus hours at one time, regular plug in adapter and car adapter. The picture is good for a portable. The sound is poor through the built-in speakers but good enough in a quiet setting. Great sound with headphones (not included), my own are Bose. Limited controls on unit - no FF or RW - that's no good, but you better not lose your remote or you will be frustrated. Unit's dvd cover is flimsy and the slightest move may disturb DVD play or cause it to operate noisily.

Biggest problem - unit stopped working at just about a year of use. I used it for trips, in the house, at the hairdresser, anywhere.
I didn't even bother to try to repair it.

Fortunately, I got it at COSTCO and their customer service is outstanding. At one year of ownership I took it to their returns and they game me a full refund by store credit. I had no receipt and no owners manual. They took it back with no hassle at all. I will definitely strongly consider whatever COSTCO is selling in DVD players because of this benefit.

I wouldn't get another AUDIOVOX DVD

CONSTANT TROUBLE 2004-11-22
We have had this unit for less than 2 years. After a few months use the screen went black.....you had audio but no video. I had to box it up and send it to NY, after several weeks we were sent a refurbished unit, but they did not return the cigerett adapter. I called them and got no where except to be told that i could order another one from them for $35
I have had this "refurbished" unit for a few months and it is now doing the same thing as the first one. All in all we have used this unit only on trips. Total hours ever used since purchasing the first one would not exceed 10 movies on the two combined.
I would NOT recommend buying this unit, thier support is lousy and it is very unreliable even if you can get it to work. Freezing up is another story in itself......

Started off Good... 2004-11-09
but now I am a very unhappy Audiovox Customer. The player worked well at first (although noisy and it does have problems reading a DVD here and there), then we started having the screen go black while using it in the car and it appeared to be a problem with the car adapter. When I contacted Audiovox, as it was still under warranty, they stated I would have to ship the whole thing back (at my expense, no less) to get it fixed, and it could be 6-8 weeks before it would be returned. Well, I decided to just buy a new car adapter (after much headache of trying to find one with enough Amps) for about $35. The unit then worked o.k.

Now we are having the same problem as others here with the hinges, both of ours are completely broken now after owning the unit for about 18 months and not really using all that much - and we certainly didn't abuse it. I see newer players now come with the one long hinge which I would recommend over this design.

Our unit still plays, with some fiddling, although I haven't tried it in the car- not sure how to make the screen stand up now that the hinges are broken.

I am now shopping around for a new player, steering clear of Audiovox, one with a continuous hinge, and probably from a store with extended warranty so I can just bring a defective unit back to the store for repair/replacement. I want something that lasts more than 18 months without falling apart at the seams.

peice of crap 2004-07-28
I got this DVD player about a week ago. The first time I tried it, the thing worked fine, even though I only watched for 30 minutes. However, the next day I tried, (with a full battery), and the thing didn't work at all, it started fine, but within a couple minutes it started skipping and eventually, the screen went blue. Then I tried the peice of crap in the car with the cigarette outlet, once again it was fine for the first couple minutes, (during which time you could hardly see the screen, no matter what you changed with the brightness) then as usual the peice of crap DVD player just froze, and I was forced to turn it off, and return it. I strongly suggest nobody buys this peice of crap.

Very nice! 2004-03-02
I have been using this player for about a week. It's had quite a bit of use in that time. So far it has been working perfectly! It is very nice, considering it was only $220! It does everything you buy on of these for and more! The sound is good without headphones, but OUTSTANDING with them! Buy one of these and you won't be disappointed-unless you plan on giving it to a "2 year old"...they can break anything! NO fault of Audiovox. I'll update if I encounter any problems in the future.

Amazing DVD Player 2005-10-20
I find this Ultra Slim DVD player amazing. Its picture quality is very good. The speakers are also good. I won't say that the speakers are too good. I have a pair of Bose speakers which I connect to this DVD Player and then watch movies. I feel like I am watching a movie in a big theater.

Ok but..... 2005-08-19
This is an okay player, especially at this lower price. Just be aware that our battery lasted only 1.5 years before it would not hold a charge and over time, the unit makes a grinding noise. A replacement battery costs about $75.00+ from Audiovox and to have the unit cleaned/repaired would cost about $95.00. At that point, it's cheaper to just buy a new unit.

At home ok, in car not so good 2005-02-11
I bought this item over a less expensive "off-brand" thinking it would have better performance in the car. It worked great at home and my kids had a blast snuggling up and watching their favorite DVDs. In the car it was less than desirable. Two seperate units (which I've returned) had the exact same problem: the power jack connection at the unit is loose and the power flashes on & off if the unit is moved even the slightest. A big problem in a moving vehicle, especially with the coiled power cord.

good for a year 2005-01-15
We had our player for just over a year when ours broke. Before that, it was a good machine. The picture quality on the 7" screen was clear and pretty sharp. Plugged into a TV it looked great as well. The 2 speakers on the bottom front of the screen worked fine. We never had problems hearing the sound, even when the kids were watching a movie during a noisy wedding reception. The sound quality was very good when it was pluged into headphones or a sound system. The player had no problem playing DVD's from other regions & burned copies of home videos. The remote is a standard design used by several of the other less expensive brands ie. Magnavox. Good features on a small remote & ergonomically designed. The problems we had was after about 8 months of heavy use (we used it in our bedroom as an alternate dvd player for several months) it started having trouble recognizing & loading dvd's. Once in a while there would be intermitant scraping noises as if the dvd were being scraped up. After a couple more uses, the screen no longer worked and the scraping noise was persistant.

We bought the player from Costco and this will be the test of their return policy.
