Worthless 2009-01-05
This thing is completely worthless. Tried it on a few discs, and it didn't make a bit of difference. The cleaning also didn't do anything, I still had to clean by hand after running it through the cleaning cycle. If I could have given it 0 stars I would have!

Returned DVD's to life after toddler torture test 2008-12-24
Ok, I see a lot of negative reviews here and I really have to wonder if people just don't know how to follow the directions. I have used this on DOZENS of DVD's, that would NOT play at all after my 3 year old put several different scratches on them, and returned them to fully functional. It took discs that would just freeze and not play and returned them to totally playable. Some that I thought were beyond repair and will play with VERY minor skips that don't affect movie play.

There are two different sets of pads that require two separate solutions. It works on the same exact principal as all the other high end cleaners. . Look around (I bought this 3 or 4 years ago) but for the money this is as good as you can get ( this assumes that you can read at a 5th grade level and follow instructions ).

Great product well worth the money 2008-12-20
How much do I like this product?

Enough that when I needed the refill kit I trudged to Wal Mart in a snow storm; then trudged to K Mart when Wal Mart didn't stock them anymore, and then hopped onto Amazon and ordered 2.

In looking for the refill kit I noticed the rash of negative reviews for the Optifix pro system itself and was really astonished.

I don't know what to say other than my strong suspicion is there was a concerted effort to drag down the rating on this product by a group with an agenda; or that a lot of people just aren't following the directions.

It's simple. It's effective. Repair cycle; clean cycle; gently wipe, done.

I've fixed enough $60 XBox 360 games for my Optifix to pay for itself 30x+ over. I've owned it for nearly 2 years and am just now on my first refill kit.

I wouldn't think of buying another repair/cleaning product unless I could no longer get refills for the Optifix.

What else can I say? I'm the Dad repairing an awful lot of games for 8-year old twin boys and I'm perfectly happy with the Optifix Pro. The negative reviews of the product really leave me perplexed.

Worthless garbage 2008-12-02
Does nothing. leaves smudges to be removed with a cloth on cleaning. so it doesn't remove scratches and it does a half asked cleaning job. This thing makes a tee shirt and tooth paste look like break through technology.

Garbage 2008-11-26
Normally I check reviews before buying any electronic. But we are going on the road tomorrow and I wanted to fix the kids DVDs before then. I go to Target and get this for $20.

Absolute waste of money! The DVDs have gone from playing but pausing/freezing from scratches, to not playing at all. Since I foolishly trusted this product to be worthwhile, three DVDs are toast now, thanks Memorex!

You can bet two things:

A. I'm not buying any electronic without looking it up first.
B. Memorex is going to get a steady stream of complaints.

Don't waste your money, this thing is useless.

I only give this one star because there is nothing lower. This did nothing but put a dent in my wallet. Does not work AT ALL!

The good, the bad, and the inevitable 2008-05-12
First, why have a personal DVD repair system? For me it was when we're watching a movie and it starts pausing and skipping, and I have a better alternative than to just give up trying to watch it after cleaning it with windex doesn't work. If the Optifix doesn't work, at least I had a better way to try to get the movie going again.

I believe their is no such thing as a perfect DVD repair system. However, some DVDs are borderline dirty/scratched that a good cleaning and a turn through the "fixing" mode should bring SOME of those DVDs back from the brink.

With that in mind, Optifix works, though not perfectly. I have three young children that can be rough on DVDs (especially the children DVDs). Using Optifix to first clean, then attempt a repair, and then clean again, I have about a 60% success rate of returning DVDs to playable status. That's the good news, and by itself should rate a four star review.

The reason that its three stars is that the pads need replaced frequently. They get worn out fast, especially when unused for days or weeks, and can start to scratch the DVDs themselves if not replaced often. Twenty uses is about the maximum. So if I "save" 12 out of twenty disks, it probably saves me $120 - 240 in having to buy a new disk to replace the old one. Heck, even "saving" one or two disks per kit that you like well enough to rebuy is worth the $8.00 or so for that kit.

My only response to the "it scratched my DVD even more" one-stars is this: First, the disk wasn't working already if you were trying to repair it. Second, replace the pads more often, especially if you haven't used the device in a while.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!! 2008-04-26
I was forced to put a one star rating, in actuality, there shouldn't be any!!!
For those of you new to these types of products, you might be very curious about using this cheap product. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!
It simply doesn't work. I know I've done better by using a good toothpaste and your thumb (check out youtube). Its just my hands got tired and I wanted something a little more mechanical.
This product does not work, just walk by it at the store and don't even look at it. I bought mine yesterday, its going back to Wally's today.

Just buy a new CD! 2008-04-03
I've tried this on at least 20 CD/DVDs just to see if it actually repaired them. It doesn't. In fact, it added scratches to a perfectly good blank CD that I used as an experiment.

If you have a damaged disc, buy another disc. Don't waste your money on this "repair kit."
