No Handwriting pad

I switched over to the SJ22 after several problems with my Palm III. Palm support gave me grief on replacing it and finally it just died. Only had it 4 months. Warranty was 90 days. So I purchase this Clie. I love it. It has been dependable and and the battery life has improved with age. Hard to believe but it did. The first 6 months I had to charge often. Once I lost all data, because I didn't charge each night. I even purchased a car charger in order to use it on the go. Now It stays charged for 3 days and never gone below 50% and I rarely use the car charger.
The down side? I wish it had more memory. Currently I am researching newer PDA, but still haven't found one that will do the job I feel this has. I was seriously thinking of a clie PEG-NX73V. But now discontinued this leaves me stumped. As a Palm is out of the question.

I have had one of these for two years and it has been flawless. I use it for managing my life, not for viewing films or pictures. I have no need to receive e-mail or view the web from my PDA.
Lost all memory!

My father and I both got this PDA for Christmas last year. After around a month, his lost everything. It was sent to be fixed, but after another month, it lost its memory again! By this time, mine also was losing its files. Both PDAs were sent to be fixed only to still delete memory. The repair man said not to let their batteries run out all the way, but by this time, the life of one charge would only last a day if I was lucky and that was if it hadn't been on. I would try to turn it on the next day and the screen would be blank. Today, I never use it anymore because it simply will not turn on!
Excellant PDA 2005-03-16
Wish it had OS 5 so I could do MP3, but that asside, I have had my SJ22 for over a year and it's wonderful; not a missed beat!! From planning times and fuel for a flight to business, to downloading web stuff from free Avantgo.com, to playing Bridge and Chess, to keeping student records. I love this thing!!!!!!! Battery has great endurance.
My girl friend bought it for $100 after rebate...she thought it wasn't very good but all she could afford....wow, what a find!!!!

My Clie is the first PDA I've owned, and I've had it for about 2 months now (I bought it on eBay for a nice, cheap price after using Amazon's rating system to decide which PDA I wanted). It was definitely a good purchase, especially if you're looking for basic PDA use. I keep track of everything in it, and have been much more productive as a result.
It is easy to use, and the screen is clear. Battery life seems to be pretty decent, especially when the backlight is not turned up too high. Even on low backlighting the screen is easy to see.
I have downloaded a few programs to it, as well as some books/Bibles. Once you figure out the downloading system, everything flows together pretty smoothly.
I bought a keyboard to go with it. That didn't turn out too well. Amazon matched the wrong keyboard to this Clie, so be careful when buying a keyboard. Make sure that the model you're buying (even if it says "for Sony Clie") actually matches the Clie you have. Amazon doesn't always match things correctly. But I'll be buying another one, which will be useful when I go to graduate school this fall.
Overall, I'm extremely pleased with this product. I've had to do a couple of hard resets, but I didn't lose anything at all. I don't know whether that's just "beginner's luck" or what. Anyway, this Clie has become my brain. I know where to be and when because of this thing, and I love my brain.
Good Older PDA 2008-01-14
I have had this PDA for over 4 years now, and I have very little complaints. It is an older PDA, but I mostly use it for contacts, minor notekeeping, calender and date keeping and calculator. Nothing special, but it makes my life easier and it works great for what I need it for. I have lost all my info on more than one occasion because of not charging it. But it comes with great Sync software and everything gets put right back on it with one click of a button, so no big deal. So as long as you have a brain and have a computer to back your info up onto, this will work great for you. And the price is right!

I'm sorry I bought this product - it does not have the capability to retain your info when the battery runs low - I actually have had to reput my info in every time my battery ran low and I didn't catch it in time - my charger cords does not stay attached to the device properly - it's just a mess - I still have to repurchase another organizer.

This works very well for basic organizational needs: address book, calendar, etc. Go with a pocket PC if you are interested in word / data files. This does have it, but it uses too much memory. I ended up deleting those features so that I would have the memory for other functions. This does work well with e-books. I loaded several from the Franklin website onto the memory stick that fits into the handheld. In that way I can have an English-Spanish Spanish-English dictionary at my fingertips. I also have a Dictionary, Thesaurus, and World History on the memory stick. I have many other books on another memory stick. The color screen displays pictures via PG Pocket well. It does not have it's own camera.
This is a very simple handheld. I purchased mine years ago from Circuit City. After that, I found that the Sony Clie is no longer available in this country through conventional stores (although, is available online, obviously). The SonyStyle.com website offers other, more up to date versions.
It seems the technology at this point is moving towards PDAs combined with phones or Pocket PCs / GPS combined with bluetooth, cameras, and as many other items as you can fit on it.
Excellent PDA for your basic everyday needs. 2006-10-31
I'm very satisfied with my Sony Clie SJ22, which I've owned now for nearly a year. While this PDA doesn't come with all the fancy features found in today's more sophisticated units, the SJ22 is a classy PDA that provides exceptional functionality and it should satisfy any user with basic needs.
The Jog Dial on the SJ22 is a very nifty feature that adds to the sleekness of this device, making navigation a breeze and something that's even enjoyable. But perhaps the SJ22's greatest asset is its brilliantly sharp 320x320 color display. Even today, this unit's exceptional display quality puts to shame many of the newer, pricier and more sophisticated PDAs currently on the market.
In terms of included software, Sony hasn't been as generous with the SJ22 as with its other models. But several applications have been included for creating and playing videos and for viewing photos. And a convenient, full-featured alarm clock is also included with this model. Unfortunately, the SJ22 doesn't come with the excellent Documents To Go software, which allows you to use your PDA to work with Microsoft Office documents (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, PDF). It would have been nice to have Documents To Go, but this application can be purchased separately for about $30 (USD).
The SJ22 handles tasks quite well for a PDA powered by Palm OS 4.1. This device is reliable and won't let you down. Aesthetically, the unit looks and feels great, and sports a user-friendly design with buttons and controls that are well placed, well sized and easy to use. In terms of size, this unit closely resembles a deck of cards: it's slightly larger but just as thick. Moreover, it's not at all heavy and can easily fit in a pocket.
Because the SJ22 is an older model that has been discontinued by Sony, these days it's nearly impossible to find it new--or even find it at all--in electronics stores (some stores may still have refurbished models in stock). But if you're interested in acquiring the SJ22, you can shop for it on eBay -- that's where I bought mine, brand new, at an amazingly low price of $75 USD (the unit I bought was in mint condition, used only once by the previous owner). You can also visit the Amazon Marketplace, where you might be able to purchase one at a good price.
For my basic needs, the SJ22 is a great little PDA that does the job exceptionally well -- it's simply a pleasure to use. I chose this unit because it's among the best (if not THE best) in its class, and I really don't have a need for a high-end PDA that comes with tons of bells and whistles, such as the ability to surf the Web. You can find many other more expensive PDAs that will give you all that, but the SJ22 is not one of those devices.
If you're looking for an excellent, dependable PDA for basic everyday use, the SJ22 would make an excellent choice. I think you'll really enjoy this wonderful and easy-to-use Sony device.
Some durability issues, but still a fair device 2006-07-14
At the time this device was new, it was ahead of the game, pricewise and technology wise. Then palm came out with the 505, and now the palm 5.0 software and sony got out of the market quickly after only about 3 years. I have had this handheld for a little over 2 years now, and it has done it's work. It does have a nice bright color display, decent for display of a picture in the photo gallary. It has the capability to run some programs from the memory stick, although I do not recommend getting a memory stick abouve 32mb becuase it takes forever to access programs on my 128mb card, often to were the handheld shuts off before I can open the program. Also, the charger for the battery tends to wear out after a couple years, so the handheld will look like it's charging, but not charge at all. My office had bought about 20 of these, and a few have had problem with Infrared beaming, and mine the on/off button does not work. Unfortunately, these were referbished models at the time, so who knows if the durability issue it the model or the referbished. I do know some people with the fancier models that have had better long term luck. Finally, this handheld has limited internal memory compaired to new models (16mb), this can be difficult to update some applications on (epocrates for one). If their is an online update, I often find myself having to manually erase some of the old files on the handheld to free up enough space for it to accept the updated program. But, for the time it came out, it was king. This item would be good for someone who wants a electronic calendar/datebook, also to carry a couple of pictures with them, but the business professional sould look towards the newer technology.
