Don't be fooled when they say "Works will all types of outlets in the U.S., Europe, Asia, China, and the UK"
2008-04-16
I was taking a trip to Ireland and even though this product claims: "Works will all types of outlets in the U.S., Europe, Asia, China, and the UK" It does not in fact work for the power outlets in Ireland, which I have found are a three-pronged, blade style outlet. Think of the U.S. grounded outlet, except for the Irish ones are generally larger and all three conductors are like thick blades. Needless to say, this unit was useless to me unless, of course, I needed to use it as a projectile. Couple that with the fact that it does nothing to adjust the power cycle and what you have is a perfectly designed paperweight designed to look like something more useful. Do yourself a favor and buy from the experts on international travel, not Amazon, just because they are the first thing that pops up in a Google search. I got burned, maybe I can help you avoid the same.
Works in Italy and France

Used it in Rome, Paris, Florence and Venice. Worked great with Camera charger, Blackberry charger.
Does not convert, so don't use with hair dryers.
Adapter Only - Not a Converter!

WATCH OUT! This is an adapter only, not a converter, which renders it pretty much useless for me and most people. Amazon failed to disclose this. It is on the package only. Shame on Amazon.
Intentionally misleading product description
2008-03-26
As an electrical engineer, I feel that the product description for this item (Belkin F8E449 Universal AC Travel Adapter) is intentionally misleading.
For example, it says:
"Rated to handle both 110- and 220-240-volt standards... allows you to connect to international power outlets without a complicated power conversion"
The statement above suggests that this 'AC Travel Adapter' is able to provide POWER conversion, so a potential customer may expect it to perform VOLTAGE conversion between 110/220V. But this is completely false, becasue this plug adapter is just a physical connection. It does not convert the VOLTAGE. It does not convert the CURRENT. In short, it does not perform ANY conversion at all.
In the 'Technical Details' section it further says:
"Allows you to charge your laptop, PDA, and cell phone internationally"
A potential customer may be led to believe that: this product allows you to use 110V-only appliance in other countries. The truth is, if you plug in an 110V-only appliance to a 220V socket through this 'adapter', your appliance wil blow up immediately.
Power supplies for most portable electronics (laptop, camcorder, cell-phone, electric shavers, etc.) are already designed for universal voltage of 100-240V AC. Similarly, your travel iron or hair dryer could be ready for dual-voltage operation. Make sure to check your appliance's user manual, as it may require you to manually flip a voltage-selection switch before leaving for the trip.
Of course, you still need a set of universal plug adapters for foreign countries - which is exactly what this product is meant to be.
Works perfectly in Europe/Asia

I was hesitant to purchase after reading the reviews however after doing some research on what I needed this became the obvious choice of other adpaters I was looking at. First off you have to check whatever item you want to plug into it. If the product you want to plug into it has an input of 100-240v or anything inbetween (110-240v for example) than this product works without any additional converters. If your product does not have the before mentioned voltage inputs and is only rated 110 or 240 you will need a voltage converter taking the voltage up or down depending on your input necessary to power your device. To check your device: if it has a transformer (box in between the plug and the adapter to your device) it will have the necessary information. If your product does not have an adapter (like a cell phone charger) it will be located on the plug area.
too soon to tell

This review is partial. The item looks to be what I'll need on my trip. Have to wait and see how it performs. At least it came in time for the trip and wasn't too expensive.
Very pleased with Adapter

I've been using my Belkin adapter in Italy for my computer and cellphone charger and have had no problems. Remember- this is not a converter. That should not be a problem, however, with most of your devices since any device- like most computer power cords- that accept 100-240V will be fine.
Exactly what I needed

Thanks so much! This was exactly what I needed for my trip to the UK, works great and easy to add to any baggage, thanks again!
Just the ticket!

I needed a product like this for a recent vacation trip to Japan. Having lived there, I knew they used only two prong, non-polarized outlets. This item let me use my laptop PC for email and Internet connections from the hotel. It appears that it will also allow a three-prong USA male plug to work in Europe and many other countries.
Does Not Convert Voltage!!!
2008-05-12
This is a fairly useless device. It does not convert voltage, and since most other countries use 220 volts, you will simply destroy your shaver or cell phone if you use this.
This fact should be prominantly advertised, and it is not.
