2004-06-08The price for this printer dock is great. Having a "printing lab" in your room for under $150? That's pretty cool. Luckily, I received a 256 MB MC with this purchase free (about a $100 value). This printer comes with a sample pack of 10 4 x 6's. It has a sample printer cartridge. It's definitely a sample. It printed out about 10 photos before telling me I need to replace the cartridge. That being said, I recommend buying a set of 4 X 6's and color cartridge.
Speaking of which, this printer dock only prints 4 X 6 photographs. Not a problem for me, but may be for others. The Kodak printer dock 6000 prints beautiful photographs quickly. First it prints the yellows, then reds, and finally, the blues. The photo quality is superb.
Using this printer dock with my computer is a great option. I am able to print off photographs stored on my computer or edit all photographs before printing. I am not sure if this can be done without the computer, but I can also center the photographs. This way I do not lose any of the photograph while removing the perforated edges. This may not matter to some, but to me it is a very important aspect in making the images look their best.
I do not see any reason to not rate the Kodak Printer Dock 6000 less than 5 stars. If there is, I will edit my review. :)
Great Quality
2004-06-01
I love the quality of the pictures I get with the 6000. I have the DX6340 camera as well and the two of them together are the best electronic purchases I have ever made. The camera is a snap to use, and combine that with this great printer and you've got a match made in heaven. We'd take forever to get a roll of film to the store and then to pick it up would be months and months. By the time we'd get the pictures back, they'd be a year old! Having a printer at home that prints store developed quality pictures is priceless. Plus, I don't have to pay to have a whole roll of film developed, when I really only needed 3 or 4 of the pictures printed to begin with. Very easy to use (set up was 5 minutes), and a snap to clean and change the paper.
Cheaper printing carts
2004-05-11
The 40-pack w/ink is $18.99 at Costco, which is about the cheapest I've found it--this comes to about 50 cents a print with sales tax. This is 20 cents more per print than taking your picture card into the store for finishing, so as other reviewers have said, you need to weigh the convenience factor. As for the price of entry, don't be afraid to save $30-$50 by buying a refurbished model--you get the same 1-year warranty. Plus keep in mind that the printer includes a 10-pack cartridge (about a $5 value) and an extra camera battery (a $20 value), so the price of entry may not be as high as you think. (A refurb unit goes for aroud $120, which makes it less than $100 after you consider the extras.)
There's another benefit if your Kodak easy share camera didn't come with a recharging dock; if it did, you can probably sell it on eBay for $30 or so. One nice thing about having the camera docked for recharging is that you always know where it is. I have a DX6490 and have yet to have to resort to swapping batteries in a day's use.
Also be aware that a new model is coming out in June that offers a couple extra, though for most of us minor features (check www.kodak.com for details); this will likely drive prices on the current version even lower.
Impressive Printer and Customer Service
2004-04-24
Before I bought this printer I read all the reviews and the only negative ones were about printers that were broken. It just so happened, that my printer dock arrived defective. While it was certainly disappointing, mistakes happen. Things break! Anyway, at that point, my biggest concern was about the quality of the kodak customer service. I called the customer service number and received a lot of help from the representive in which I spoke. He gave me detailed instructions on how to ship the printer off to be repaired. Three days after I mailed the printer back to Kodak, I received an e-mail from them stating that they had received my package and had begun to work on the problem. They also provided me with a link so I could check the progress of my repair. Two days after that I received another e-mail stating that they had shipped my printer back to me and to be expecting it in 3 days. And sure enough, it arrived right on time and they gave me a brand new printer! I believe that defects are highly unusual in the product, so don't let those other reviews scare you off!
As for the quality of the prints...I am amazed at how great they are! I am in love with this printer!!!!!
highly satisfied

(In a nutshell, if you're going to use it with a computer and do not have a Kodak camera that's compatible with the unit, you'll need to buy a special USB cable. The cable should cost about $11.00 US. WIth the cable, I'd give it 5 stars.)
I've had it with clogged injet nozzles and paper jams. I thought this little printer would be wonderful to demo digital photography for my college students. So, the price was irresistable and I bought one.
My only complaint (only in regards to Kodak)is that i had planned to use it only with my computer. I opened the box, followed the relatively EZ instructions (just like installing most USB perpiherals) and got down to connecting it to the puter and - guess what? No USB cable. After a bit of anger and frustration subsided, I went back to read the directions one more time ...
Ohhh ... it says "use the cable supplied WITH YOUR KKODAK CAMERA" (empasis mine). How about that! Luckily I live in an area filled with stores. Staples Office Supplies came though (about an hour round trip and $11.00 for the cable).
No - you cant do the logical thing like using a standard cable off some other gizmo (well, maybe if yoou're very lucky). The 6000 uses a special mini plug on one end ( Kodak references info about the cable at www.kodak.com/go/printerdock )
So, once i had the new cable, i hooked it up and it worked perfectly. For the record, in case anyone's interested, I use it on an old Win98 600 mhz gateway.
Hey Kodak!!! - why can't you include a cable and raise the price a buck?
I'm very satisfied with the image quality. It's small, light, and portable. Great for transporting to various campuses.
On amazon.com, the price was irresistable and it was delivered ahead of schedule.
Kodak C743 with G600 printer
2008-06-04
We purchased camera and docking station for father, who is a camera nut. Had to return camera for warranty as batteries could not keep charge. First printer broke (jammed) (purchased film from Kodak only) so we bought a second printer docking station. This also broke (jammed) and will not print pictures. Called Kodak and they told us we needed to return printers for repair - at our cost, of course. I would NOT recommend this to anyone, very poor reliability. We are extremely unimpressed by the product. We will not purchase another Kodak product due to this experience.

Fair trade

The printer dock was largely in serviceable order, but the hinge for the cartridge door was broken causing the entire door to fall off and there was no manual with it nor any readme file on the accompanying CD-ROM. Though I knew it was a used item, the ad led me to believe that it would be in better physical condition.
Great for printing high quality pics if you're not in a rush
2004-11-05
I got this for my birthday from my boyfriend. I had already had gotten a Kodak easyshare camera from him so this was a great little gadget for me to own. I tried it out the first time months ago and it worked great. It printed out high-quality pictures. Even today, it is still working great and I couldn't believe how easy it was to print pictures from the computer. The only bad thing about it is that it takes a looong time to print. You'll be sitting watching the paper feed through at least 4 times before it completes printing. And buying the printer cartridge and paper can add up after a while.
Here's a tip: if you haven't used it in a while, make sure to get any dust off of the paper because some of it is still exposed to the air.
Cool little machine!

I wanted a digital camera, but I don't have a computer, nor do I plan on getting one any time soon. Also, I'm lazy, so taking my camera to a store to develope pictures seemed like alot of hassle. So, this little gadget has worked out pretty well for me so far.
I only have 2 bad things to say about it. The first one is about paper loading. Mine seems to not like a full tray of paper. If I load the tray full (but not too full) the printer tells me it's out of paper and to load more. It took a while of hand feeding the pages until I figured this out. To have it feed itself effetively, give it small bites (fill the tray to half).
The other negative thing about it is it may take 90 seconds to print out a picture....unless it's printing out 50-60 pictures (week long vacation). After about the 20th picture it gets a little warm and takes about 4-5 minutes a picture.
So you do the math....5 minutes a picture, 50 pictures, handfeeding the printer....took a couple days to get my pics.
