I'll stick to my MDR-G52
2008-05-08
I have very sensitive ears and can notice distortion in sound quality so much that a bad set of headphones kills the experience for me. I have had a set of MDR-G52's for almost 6 years and they have served me well. I picked these up thinking they would be a good alternative. I was wrong...
The sound quality was attrocious. It was tinny and whiney sounding. These phones make every thing sound as if it were shifted all into the high frequencies. I listen to alot of hard rock stuff where the lows are important, I couldn't listen to anything because the distortion of the headphones made my ears very fatigued after only a few minutes.
They don't fit well, the ear pieces have popped off twice on me and I have been overall dissappointed by this product. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who has sensitivity to sound distortion or who has sensitive ears like mine. Your experience will be just as painfull as mine was.
Very comfortable and high quality at a value

Build quality:: Great, the cord, connector and earpiece give a sense of a quality product. The cord is made from some sort of plastic (or rubber?, I really don't know.)that make it untangle very easy. The earpiece doesn't look like it's gonna break by throwing it in a gym bag. :)
Sound quality:: So-so, sadly, It is nowhere near bad nor great. It is just right in the middle where it defines "where value meets quality" perfectly. If you are looking for excellent music and sound reproduction, even at a slightly higher budget; I recommend you look at those earbuds type. They are better but you may lose some practicality. :X
Use:: I use it in a gym and practically when I'm on the go, airport and such. It does not come with external volume adjustment which may be ideal for outdoor exercise. One very high praise to this product is I can put it on my ears for a long time and I still feel comfortable. It just fits perfectly tight without hurting my ears. Even when I'm sleeping on a long trip! Its lightweight gives no problem to report in a gym, on the go, wherever you wanna use it at all. :)
Price and conclusion:: what more can I say? For a $17 (at least that's the price I got) It's well worth it, comfortable, gives you the music you need. Again, if you want uber quality sound, you wouldn't be looking in a $17 range in the first place. :)
Addicted to these headphones

The perfect headphones! (Almost.) I've bought these exact brand of headphones 4 times, and I'm about to buy them a 5th. Why? Well, I'm extremely picky about headphones. I often wear baseball caps, so the plastic band over my head with old-style headphones is inconvenient. I grew up wearing those and am basically sick of that design. They also get in the way of my glasses. My ears must be some mutant shape totally incompatible with all earbuds. I refuse to wear them. The sound quality is so poor with earbuds I'm constantly fiddling with them to keep them where I want in my ears. The expensive "noise-canceling" types are no good for people on the go, and in my case they get too sweaty and hot to wear comfortably (I often wear headphones when walking briskly). You can hear the suction when I take those big ol' headphones off. I've even tried a knock-off brand of these with a similar clip, but the plastic clip on other manufacturer's brands is harder and very irritating to me. These headphones are perfect from a comfort standpoint as they fit on my ears and allow them to breathe. I can easily slip one off if someone is talking to me and I need to hear them. I can clip the headphones to my shirt if I need to take them off for an extended period of time.
The only drawback is durability. The first pair was lying on the floor (my fault) and my girlfriend vacuumed up the cord. Snap! The earphone part broke right off. I was a little annoyed, but then I started to panic when I had trouble finding that particular model in retail stores. Thank goodness for Amazon. We managed to get another pair, and at the same time I bought a pair for her brother's birthday because I like them so much. My 2nd set bit the dust when I was careless with the cord in a supermarket. The earphone part got pulled off while I was shoppping. The cord was dangling from my pocket and got snagged on the automatic door. Pop! The next pair got sucked into my retractable dog leash. I spent 20 minutes trying to untangle it before I finally gave up and walked my dog. There was another one in there, but I can't remember what happened to them. It wasn't pretty. That makes 4 times so far, plus one as a gift.
So, the durability is a factor. They do get tangled a lot. You can't really wrap them up for storage without them getting tangled somehow. However, I'm willing to put up with that because for me, ear comfort comes way way way ahead of the rest of the annoyances that go along with those headphones. I've been doing without since the last pair died, and I even bought another knock-off version of that headphone from another manufacturer, but it just isn't the same. This time, I'm placing an order for multiple sets because it appears Sony is not going to continue stocking it in stores. If you can put up with some minor tangling, I'd highly recommend them in terms of sound quality and comfort. Now that they are getting to be an older model, the price is coming down, too.
I'll admit there are some drawbacks, but I've never been more satisfied in terms of ear comfort than with these headphones. They are great in the gym if you are picky about hearing your music or talk uninterrupted, because the clip keeps them where they are supposed to be. That's of utmost importance to me. Good luck!

i love these things, i always buy these over other types of head phones. they don't smash my head, they don't fall of every time i move, and i got big ears that stick out, so i have no issue with them setting there; now, if they could only make them with bluetooth.
Good for the price

I use these mostly for travel, since they're much more comfortable than earbuds (and considerably better sound quality) while still relatively small / easy to pack vs. headband types. Certainly there are better on-ear phones out there, but hey, these are sub-$20. Only minor beef is they're a little loose-fitting for me, so not too good for heavier activity.
O.K. for the money

I'm not a big headphone speaker user. I hate having things in my ear, that is why I like the over the ear design. They do bother my ears after an hour when I wear my glasses. They don't block out the outside noise. I like that since I just want portable music. MY hearing isn't that great so I'm not a great judge on all of the tech. stuff
Bottom line: They are O.K., the price was right
Not for long time use.

it works well, but if you wear it too long, you feel the numb on the ears, because of the clip. (a bit heavy if compare to my nintendo headphone, same clip style, but more comfortable then this sony one)
Excellent clip-on earphones with long FM antenna cord
2008-06-21
I really like these Sony clip-on, open-air style earphones very much. They allow me to be totally aware of my local environment while really enjoying listening and getting some real work done at the same time too. They are even quite light and comfortable on my ears for a very long interval (> ~2-3 hours at a time) even while using reading glasses. They sound great to my ears to boot! In addition, they act as an excellent FM antenna for my Sony SRF-M37W AM/FM/Weatherband pocket radio. The extra ~1/2 m length of cable makes a very big reception difference on FM stations in comparison to the original Sony quality earphones that came with the SRF-M37W. Even with the very long cord they are very easy to roll up and carry in a shirt or pants pocket without any problems, especially compared to the traditional Sony earphones that came with my pocket radio. They were my Father's day gift this year and they are very much appreciated!
Not what I expected.

I listen to books on tape to fall asleep and have gone through so many pairs of earphones it isn't funny. These do not fit my ears very well and they flop around. Granted I do not have dumbo ears but more like hamster ones that are hard to fit. My dilema is, should I wish for bigger ears or more suitable earphones?
As Good As I Thought They Would Be...

These headphones are exactly what I was expecting they would be when I ordered them...my daughter has the same pair for her iPod and when I mentioned that I needed a better pair than the ones that came with mine, she suggested these to me.
I have used them nonstop since they arrived ~ love the blue earpiece, lol ~ and they are perfect!
I would recommend them to anybody who is looking for a good pair; the interchangeable earpieces are an added perk! just for fun...
