quick and convenient

i like this iron tremendously. even at very low heat it can make my hair dead straight and doesn't damage my delicate hair.
Not great - try the Conair CS25 instead
2008-05-10
I purchased this to replace my Conair CS25 model that I left in a hotel room by accident, and was very disappointed. Although this model does have a comb on the side of it, it did not glide through my hair well - my hair got caught and seemed to stick to the plates. In fact, I pulled out quite a few hairs trying to use it and I felt like it was really damaging. It is also heavy and awkward compared to the CS25 model, harder to manuever to the root of your hair and easier to burn yourself. I stuck it in a drawer after two uses and ordered the other model.
The CS25 is the ultra slim model with 1 5/8 inch plates. I'm not sure how it would work on thick curly hair, but for wavy hair like mine that has a little frizz and mostly needs to be smoothed it was fantastic.
Has one fatal flaw
2008-04-23
Yes...it heats quickly, straightens your hair, and is priced attractively. It has one major design flaw however, one that makes me regret having bought it. The design has a long skinny handle and a much fatter plate head and is heavy and much longer than most straighteners. Combine the weight with the over-long, unbalanced design and it is impossible to grasp and maneuver easily without having to use two hands...one to grasp the handle and another to hold down the plates. They even anticipated that you would need to use two hands by placing a halfmoon tab on the ends of the plate heads so you could manually press down on the plates. I have never had any problems with my two previous straighteners but then they were designed as one, (not-as)long rectangular 'stick'. I also notice that it does not glide smoothly over the hair but sticks, and I suspect again it's because of the difficulty in keeping the plates clamped shut. Maybe my hands are too small, maybe I'm not strong enough, maybe it's just me...but look at the design of this product and all the others pictures on Amazon and you'll note the difference. And that difference makes all the difference in how this product performs.
dont buy!

this straightener is terrible
it burns my hair and makes it frizzy
plus when you turn the heat level to 25, you can smell the burn/smoke
please do not buy it
even if it's this cheap, it's not worth it
This product is crap for kinky thick hair

I purchased this iron in hopes to be able to nicely straighten my hair after blowdrying. This product is just not good at all. I cannot getas close to the root as I would like. It doesn't straighten well. You'll have to go over a section of hair multiple times to get a somewhat decent result. If I were you, I'd invest money in a good ceramic flat iron like a CHI or Biosilk. Both of those work great.
Big and Bulky!

It's ok, but, like I said, its big and bulky. I'd rather a nice slim straightener.
Well, it does do the job...so if you like it, buy it.
Pulls hair, returning

Bought this because of the high reviews here on Amazon, but it pulls my hair so I am sending it back. Disappointed!!
Excellent Choice

I did not want to pay $50 for a ceramic flat iron, but I wanted the high quality. Since I had used Conair appliances in the past, I decided to try this one. This product was designed for easy handling. It heats up in a couple of minutes, and does a fantastic job on medium to coarse hair. I would suggest that you start with a lower setting first.
Worth every penny...

When it comes to beauty products, I have recently learned that when you try to cheap out and cut corners, what you end up with is worth every penny.
This straightener is highly inexpensive. I purchased it when I cut my hair short, with every intention of maintaining it straight, at least for the weekends (I have naturally very curly hair.) This product worked for me for roughly 5 months, but never ideal. It snagged my hair, the plates were too big for my cut (which can be blamed on my own oversight.) However, very recently, it gained two heat settings: off and burning my hair off. No matter what setting on the dial I have it set too (1-25), turbo on or off, it gets hot enough to damage my hair and even burn some off. I've had to totally alter my cut and style to cover up the missing parts of my hair, and had to shell out money on products to repair the damage (dry, incredibly kinky and irreperable hair that time is not repairing [other than it falling out.])
My hair is one of my favorite parts of me, and now I am totally floored but the damage done to it by this product. And yes, I was using a pre-treatment to try and prevent such a thing from occuring, and it still happened on heat setting 1. I have now thrown this in the garbage and done my proper research on Follica.com to choose the best (and best priced) straightener. In my opinion, sometimes it's well worth it to shell out the extra money for a much much better product that will last you much much longer.
Smoothy Straightens The Curliest Hair

I have very curly hair. When I was a child it came down in ringlets. I have tried other conair straighteners in the past and even though it did the job it left it frizzy, even the older model that uses steam. I took a chance and bought this one months ago and let me say IT ROCKS!! for all those with naturally curly hair will know what I mean when I say nothing makes it smooth but this does. Highly recommend it!!!
Update: I have had this for months and love it but I decided to try one of the newer ones with Tourmaline so I got CS31T The infinity ceramic with tourmaline 1"..Tried it this morning and its awful. I did a few stands on one side with the infinity and a few strands on the other with the one rated here and the infinity did nothing but frizz even on the highest setting and it was double what the instant heat cost. So don't waste your money on a more expensive one. The CS19JCS instant heat is only $20 and works GREAT with silky straight results. Still loving it and going to buy more for back up..
