Editorial Review
The Apple Mouse is available as a kit for purchase to complement your Apple system. It can be used with all USB-equipped Apple Macs. The Apple Mouse has no rollers or tracking mechanisms to wear out or clog, and no mouse balls to fish out and clean. Besides all that, there's no distinguishable mouse button. Instead, the entire Apple Mouse is in effect a super-sensitive button - the body pivots up and down to actuate the click mechanism. The elliptical shape equally accommodates right and left-handed users, and its glass-smooth surface makes it a joy to use. The Apple Mouse uniquely combines simplicity, elegance and precision to deliver a superior mouse experience. It's ideal when working with applications like Photoshop or Illustrator, which require precision cursor movement. It's equally adept on most any surface and maintains accuracy even during rapid movement.

Just note this is not the Pro mouse. 2005-12-01
I purchased this mouse for a used iMac I purchased. It's a nice mouse with a quality feel to it. Please note that if you are replacing the Apple Pro Mouse that used to be bundled with Macs, this mouse looks very similar, but does not allow you to adjust the click sensitivity. This was a problem for me initially, as I had my Pro mouse on a "soft" setting and found it uncomfortable to click on the relatively "hard" setting this mouse is fixed on. After not using a computer for a week, I returned and found that the "hard" click did not bother me anymore.

Pretty looks, but not that practical 2005-02-18
Apple's new optical mouse is gorgeous to look at, but for day-to-day use there are better options.

First of all, this mouse has a short cord. Unless you have a USB hub sitting right on your desktop, you MUST plug this mouse into a USB port on your keyboard because the cord isn't really long enough to be plugged in anywhere else. If you have an unusual desktop arrangement--for example, if you are using a lousy dorm room desk whose keyboard tray has no room for a mouse--it is extremely awkward to use this mouse.

The one button wasn't really a problem, even though I am a former Windows user who is used to clicking the right mouse button. OS X and well-designed applications can be used comfortably without that second button; if you need a context menu, you can either click-and-hold or hold down the Control key while clicking.

The way in which the one button is implemented, however, is more problematic. While the "no button" design is visually appealing, I find that I sometimes click the mouse button if I rest my hand on the mouse the wrong way. Unlike the Apple Optical Pro Mouse, however, this one does not have a sensitivity dial on the underside that can be used to make mouse clicks stiffer.

The shape of this mouse also bothered me after several weeks of regular use. In comparison to most desktop mice, the Apple Mouse is fairly flat in the back. When I use this mouse, I find that my palm is usually cupping empty air. Using it this way for a short while isn't much of a problem, but after continuous use it begins to make my palm ache. It is also more difficult to pick up and move because of its flat shape.

I didn't have any problems with the mouse's optical tracking. I do not play computer games or do anything else that requires lightning-fast mouse movements, so I can't really comment on its responsiveness in that respect.

I might consider buying another Apple mouse if they made a more ergonomically shaped model and lengthened the cord, but for now I'm sticking with my Logitech optical scroll mouse.

If you do like the appearance of this mouse, I recommend getting a used Apple Pro Mouse instead. It looks similar to this mouse, but the bottom also has a dial for adjusting the button sensitivity; it also comes in a semi-translucent smoky-colored plastic for those who don't have white Macs or peripherals.

WHAT ARE YOU PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT!?? 2005-02-10
Listen, Ive used these kinds of mice for a looooooong time at school. the only thing you cant replace is the scroll wheel. Ive found that if you hold the button down long enough, you can have a right click feature by moving the mouse a bit. DUH!!!

One Button? 2005-02-10
... The mouse itself is a big button and there is only one mouse. I love Apple and I am a apple user since many years, this this is weak. When will apple learn that you can work better with 2 buttons and a scrollwheel? I guess, never. Otherwise the mouse is normal optical mouse standard. I can only recomment to buy this one if you have a complete apple system and don't want to ruin the good overall looks. Careful: Like with every optical mouse: Use a one color surface to operate the mouse on. Otherwise the pointer is goin to jump all over the screen.
My pro's and con's:
Pro:
Very good design.
Good quality.
Precise operation.
Con:
No Wheel.
Only one button.

Great mouse, but I still miss two buttons 2004-08-18
This is one cool mouse! It is a joy to use.

Pros:
-Best aesetics a computer mouse has ever had! (except for maybe the wireless version of this mouse)
-Really cool clicker.
-Smooth, since its optical it works on most surfaces, even your pants!

Cons:
-It takes awhile to get used to the one button if you are coming from PCs to Macs. For people who don't use the right click, its probably easier.
-No scrollwheel
-Relatively short cable

Stylish! Trendy! Hip! ...Paperweight 2008-03-31
I am an Apple fan who recommends most of their products to friends and family, but I think they put way too much emphasis on the ascetics for this gorgeous piece of crap.

PROS:
Totally mod, Innovative, Vogue, Trendsetting, Flashy, Elegant, Sophisticated, Suave.
If it were a car, it would be incredibly aerodynamic!

CONS:
The no-button-pivot-point is easy to accidentally click, especially if you have something on your desk that you might bump it into, e.g. eMac, because bumping even the side of the mouse will click it. It's basically one big clumpy button .

No right click button is a step backwards. Having to click while holding control should not be necessary, and I get a little sad every time I have to do it. Is this 80's?!

Everyone has been dragging something, when their mouse is nearing an object (emac, keyboard, ect) on their desk, well, in the less cool, non-innovative days you could simply hold down your left click button, pick up your mouse, and continue dragging, not losing your spot. This problem is probably pops up the most while using Photoshop and you're lassoing something and are running out of actual desk space with your mouse and you have to re lasso, which is why you decide to write a review on Amazon. With the new super shiny Apple mouse, there is no button to hold down, you have to squeeze the sides and try to make it THINK that it is still on your desk. And I'm pretty sure it CAN think, seeing as it's so cutting edge.

This sure was therapeutic!

You would be better off buying a USB optical mouse with a left and right click, even though you won't be able to hang with the in-crowd.

accurate 2007-01-28
It's quick and accurate. Looks good too. The only set back is that it doesn't have a roll key.

Mine is still new and unused... 2007-01-26
... and sitting in my iMac G5's box. I feel crippled without a scroll wheel or right-button, so I went out and bought a Microsoft Blue Optical mouse instead (their mice are about the only decent thing Microsoft sells). I thought Apple had finally figured it out with the Mighty Mouse, but I was disappointed.

Great for kids 2007-01-21
My children under three can use this mouse very easily. I see them staying with it until middle school. Not everyone needs a bunch of buttons on their mouse! And it's solid - stands up to toddler abuse.

Apple Mouse 2006-06-20
Pros:

-Nice feel
-Easy USB connection
-Eye appealing

Cons:

-Short wire
-No scroll wheel
-I WANT RIGHT CLICK!!!

This mouse is of very high quality, but has many flaws to it. First of all, the wire is SO short that you can't really move it from place to place. Secondly, there is no scroll wheel so you can't easily scroll down a page. Most importantly, THERE IS NO RIGHT CLICK!!! A mouse of this price and appeal should definitly have a right click feature.
