continuing Simply Red...
2008-06-09
The last Simply Red album I purchased was Stars. DirecTV offered this album as a concert. I recorded it and have been watching it ever since. Don't know what bothered anyone else, but this is the best album ever that I have heard from them. His voice and the backups are excellent!! I continue to listen to my recording and hope more will!! There is not a song that I do not like on this album.
home to hall & oates

I don't care for what I read about Mick Hucknall, but in "Home", there is a song, SUNRISE--the best part of the album. I've purchased this album only because of this song(from Hall & Oates, soulful background track)With his words and voice added along with a beautiful girl in the background, he cannot miss with this song, NOT the album. Not a Bob Dylan fan either, but when I receive it, will try the other songs as well. the 5 STARS are for SUNRISE!!!
Still worth the Sunrise

There are not too many good ones on this one.. BUT. BUT BUT BUT-
You NEED SUNRISE. Just like De La Soul sampled 'I can't go for that' -Hall & Oats - with much success-- so does Red on Sunrise. Such a great song. It is so amazing.
Red also covers Bob Dylan on this one and it is really good.
With the exception of 'Pocket Book'--Like all Simply Red albums-- I am totaly blown away by one or two songs. Antother one or two are pretty good-- one or two are very ok, and the rest are kinda tired (like old red himself).
Giving It 3 Stars For Track 3...
2006-01-27
I am giving this album 3 stars because I only like track 3 on this album "Sunrise".
My friends mom told me that she heard this new song at the time by Hall and Oates and she said it sounded like they made an updated version "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)" which is one of my all time fave songs. She said it was really good but could not find a single for it. I just happened to be watching VH1 and caught a new video by Simply Red called "Sunrise" after watching the video I realized that it sounded a lot like the Hall and Oates song... I was thinking this is good...has a good beat to it...and the singing is incredible on this song...so I decided to go out and buy the album... my friends mom listened to it and she was like yeah this is the song! So she went out and bought the album...but I was a bit disappointed with it.
The first track "Home" wasn't a good placement for an opener because it's not strong and upbeat and doesn't draw you into the album ...but it is beautifully sung and I like the piano in it.
"Sunrise" and "Money In My Pocket" don't even fit on this album. These 2 would fit better with maybe "Love And The Russian Winter" after the track "Ain't That A Lot Of Love".
The rest of the album lacks anything unique...way too mellow for my taste.
So again 3 out of 5 stars.
Somewhat Weak
2005-12-31
Ok, I gave it a 3 and it hurt to do it. I love Mick Hucknall, and I was so excited when this CD was released because like all Red fans, I had been hoping for something new. I love the title track and Sunrise is special, but much of the rest is just not up to the incredible standards set in the past. I want more original tunes from this guy. The clever insite shown in his lyrics from past outings just wasn't there. I could never give a Red album less than a 3, but I was let down.
A Brilliant And Beautiful Album

Eagerly awaited 2003 studio album, the first on their own new label simplyred.com. Mick's voice is better than ever on this 11 track album that he produced with longtime collaborator Gota Yashiki. Includes the songs 'Sunrise', 'Fake', 'You Make Me Feel Brand New' & a version of Bob Dylan's 'Positively 4th Street'.
A little Retro
2005-07-14
I like this CD, it sounds a little retro in some places and takes me back.. MH has wonderful talent, his voice still sounds terrific even after all these years. Take a try and enjoy this CD, it's hip, cool, and fun all at the same time. Groovy baby...
Good Album
2005-05-16
"Sunrise" , "Home" and "postiviely 4th street" are my three favourite songs from this album. Positively 4th street being the best. Not being a big fan of Simply Red I didnt know what to expect.
Sunrise was the single from this album and it features some really cool grooves and is one of the most catchiest summer songs I have heard in my life."Home" suits the mood Mick Hucknell tries to sing about in this album.
Positively 4th Street is an outstanding remake of the Bob Dylan hit. It features some really good vocals courtesy MH.
What I disliked about the album is the fact that it lacked confidence.I like Pop/Rock genre but Simply Red are much better than ending the album the way did with this one.
"you make me feel brand new" is a corny, unsingable song. However, if you liked this album , I recommend you George Michael's Patience and Simply Red - Greatest hits.
Both are great compilations of songs sung with more heartfelt lives that only music comprehends.
Easy Listening

I enjoyed this CD very much, and was so glad to see a new release by Simly Red. Some of the tracks are classics they have redone, and others sample from other artists (like 'Sunrise', which is taken from Hall and Oates). The CD provides 1st class entertainment, and I love that I can listen to the entire CD without wanting to skip any tracks. IMO, there isn't a bad track on this.
Simply Stunning
2005-01-03
Simply Red have been a favorite of mine since the "holding back the years and $$$ 2 tight 2 mention days" from eons ago. they kinda slipped a bit after the debut CD. But held a somewhat tight knit of fans. This past year with the release of "HOME" they have a pure gold mine of tracks that can easily be turned into "gold" as a remixed CD maxi or unreleased club mixes (4 tracks released to date and remixed buy so many BIG name remixers)it is "SIMPLY" amazing. For so many years, even Back to the "Kon Kan" days of I beg your Pardon, there have been remixers that are not straight. Not alot of people realize that, and it is a part of our society, that even being straight, you have to admit we could not live with out music. It was always so UN COOL to admit that you were not straight, yet in 2004 and 2005 now, it seems the IN thing to do from Movies, to TV, to Music. It all is a BIG influence on our daily life. I am not trying to OUT anyone, but the next time you hear a song that you LOVE, and you go and buy it from Madonna to Britney, to Pet Shop Boys, ETC....to just about 75% of the remixes you hear are not straight you eventually HAVE 2 HAVE that song for your own, think about it??? And YOU know who is able to fix your "bad hair day" (your hairdresser, NOT that he is Gay, but maybe your waiter at Dinner is.) This world should NOT discriminate, and this is a MUST CD for all Simply Red fans. This by Far shows so much emotion and maturity from 20 years ago, the lyrics and club remixes are superb, and add new light to a Man who "Simply" loves to do what he is doing, and that shows determination, in a world where it tends not to be found all that often. I give this CD 5 stars, just for being here in 2005 when so many one hit wonders are "just that" keep it up Mick (Lead Singer) you are great, hope this review is of help in your decision process, believe me it is "SIMPLY" worth it Thanks
