Frustrating set-up, terrible customer service, not mac-friendly 2008-05-11
Perhaps I would have had a different experience on a PC, but for the Mac, it's hard even to locate the set-up instructions on the CD. Those instructions are difficult to read and leave out key steps. The customer "service" is that awful, irrelevant and out-sourced. Even though I've set up this router at two other offices before, I have spent hours going in circles this time. I will have to remember to research the quality of support before purchasing electronic devices in the future.

Router or road block? 2008-05-05
I bought a Netgear WGT 624 router a couple years ago when I first got cable internet access and my father acquired a laptop with a wireless card. This was my first experience with wireless networking and routers, so I didn't know what to expect. But just the same I was less than impressed with the Netgear. Set up was pretty easy on Mac OS X, but in general use I was always suspect of it. The signal strength of the Netgear is best described as flakey, with signal strength fluctuating from strong to weak and back to strong in mere nano seconds (my house is 800 square ft. and my father's laptop is never more than 30 ft away). The slightest power glitch made the router drop the wireless altogether, and there were times where the wireless would drop out altogether for no good reason. Finally got sick of having to reset the router by unplugging it, and replaced it with a Linksys. What a difference. Turns out that the Netgear was also impeding the upload and download speeds of my desktop, which connects to the router via ethernet cable. With the Netgear I would get a lot of question marks where images were supposed to be in web pages or RSS feeds. I always attributed this to the sites I'd be visiting, but it was the Netgear Router. I do not get any question marks with the Linksys router when visiting these same sites. Do yourself a favor and do not buy this router. It's not worth it.

So far...so good... 2008-04-16
Purchased the Netgear Super G yesterday for home use. I'm completely computer illiterate but found the CD and setup to be WONDERFUL. My biggest problem was my PC wasn't accepting it. I contacted customer service through my internet provider and found I had to switch my DSL modem into a "brige mode". Once I got that done things were smooth sailing. Love the security settings on this model! My PC is working great, and my husband's Dell Inspiron, which is 4yrs old, is connecting fine using a card. I've read other reviews and see problems can kick in later on so I'm definitely saving the box and receipt! Not bad for a first time router user!

Moronic customer support 2008-04-09
I returned this router one week after purchase. After experiencing some set-up difficulties, I spent (literally) hours on the phone to absolutely clueless customer service reps, who tried to blame the fault on everything but the router. Most of them were clearly reading from a manual and had no idea about basic software issues.
I returned and exchanged for the equivalent Linksys model, which also gave me a set-up problem (related to the previous mess Netgear had made of the system). I phoned customer service, and found them very knowledgeable and competent - a very stark contrast to the buffoons at Netgear. Bingo, they fixed the problem right away!
Bottom line, the Netgear router has an easy set-up and good range, but if you ever need to phone customer service, you are in for a nasty surprise.

Garbage - Netgear, you blew it! 2008-03-06
You lost my vote. If there was ever a product that should "earn" zero stars in this rating system, wow, do we ever have a winner.

I wasted far too many life-minutes of my time troubleshooting this product. I'll never buy Netgear again. I've switched to the Linksys-Cisco WRT54GL and I'm not looking back. I haven't had to reboot this box in six weeks so far!! Hey that beats Netgear's record by six weeks already!!!

This Netgear required constant rebooting. I experienced dropped VoIP calls, lost my connection with all three laptops sporadically throughout the day. A dozen router reboots wasn't uncommon. I yelled at my ISP, my VoIP provider etc. read the forums and even bought a second one of these pieces of garbage just to make sure.

Well, I'm sure. Faulty design must be the culprit.

What a piece of garbage!!!!!!!

I read somewhere that Netgear is aware of the issue - well I have a really super idea for you - are you ready? - release a fix for the problem so that the folks that bought your router can fix it and do part of your job for you. You may salvage some customers and goodwill if there's any out there. I accept PayPal if you care to reimburse me for that extraordinary bit of technology consulting.

Still too many stars 2008-07-12
I don't think I could possibly rate this router low enough to reflect my disgust for this product. This is my second of these pieces of trash and I've had enough. I have been fighting with dropped connections with these things for years and never bothered to look up solutions until now. Within the past few days, this router has been dropping connections on the order of every 2-5 minutes. Enough was enough. I logged on to Amazon to shop for a new router, and lo and behold, I find a ton of 1-star reviews of the very router I'm using and hundreds of references to a known technical issue with this particular model. Do yourself a favor - buy a Linksys router and never look back. If Netgear is that lackadaisical about solving issues with their product, they don't deserve your business. Any company that quite obviously doesn't care about their customers won't get another penny from me.

Product Works Great, I recommend for most users 2008-06-06
Installing my wireless router and WG311T card was anything but simple. However if you follow their instructions explicitly and do everything correctly you will be very pleased with this product.

I'm giving it 4 stars because I encountered a very serious error with my Trend Micro Internet Security. I accidentally turned on the firewall for that program while the router was working. It ended up screwing up my firewalls so bad that I couldn't even access my internet with a direct connection from my Comcast Cable box.

I attempted to uninstall and it would fail halfway through each time. Now it's un-removable without some tricky work with my registry. I rolled back my settings to the prior day and started over with my Trend Micro turned off (it was barely installed anyway) and it worked great.

I get excellent range and speed when paired with the Netgear WG311T wireless card. The security features are also a major bonus. The user friendly menu when you log into your router is also a big plus. If you are a casual user and do not know much about the inner workings of your computer, this product may not be for you. But if you have a handle on the technical stuff, this might be a great product for you.

firmwire needs to be updated 2008-06-03
I bought a WGT624 V3 over two years ago, but almost never used it. Just recently installed Comcast, and linked the router to the modem. I should say it was a very bad product initially, since the comcast speed somehow got slowed down by the router and the router even stopped working randomly. Ever after I manually updated the firmwire to V2.0.26_1.0.1NA, everything appears to be working fine without any problem.

Never received it!!! 2008-05-30
Do not purchase products from this seller!!! I purchased the item and never received it! I emailed the seller who said they would return my money but the seller definitely did not refund my money at any point in time! TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!

Piece of JUNK, WASTED MUCH OF MY TIME! 2008-05-28
as you can tell by the title, i hate this product, actualy it cannot be called a product even. its so slow, i have an VERY fast DSL connection (around 5mbs), yet my wireless signal is 1/5th the speed of dial up at times. i cant load a single website without waiting five minuts and dirtying my mouth! i hate this junk so much, i am about to break it everytime i use my laptops, but i dont wana spend more money on a router, this junk was $70! the only reason i didnt return it after the first day, (yes the first day), is becuz i lost the reciept. iv been trying out lots of routers to find the best one, but my quest ended wen i lost the reciet, and this is the worst, it barely works! the signal is always so weak, that it just stops working sometimes, (like a gravely injured person drifting in and out of consciouses if u get what i mean), and the router is 15 feet away from me in the room next door! im surprised this site even loaded up, becuz, it usually hasnt in the past. once google tok 2 minuts to load. DONT WAST UR TIME, EFORT, MONEY, AND STRESS AND HEALTH ON THIS F*** JOB!!!!! ITL PUT GREY HAIRS ON UR HEAD! NEGATIVE 5 STARS FOR THIS, AND A DISASTEROUS FATE AND A SPOT ON ENGINEERING DISASTERS ON THE HISTORY CHANNEL BE TO THIS JUNK PRODUCT!!!!!!!!! I HATE IT
