Another wonderful album! 2008-06-09
Sarah McLachlan is one of my favorite artists and this album provides more of her signature style. An incredibly beautiful voice, haunting melodies, and emotional lyrics mark this as another wonderful album!

Hauntingly Breathtaking 2008-06-08
When Sarah McLachlan released "Surfacing" in 1997, it became a big hit, full of songs that are still on the airwaves more than a decade later. So when "Afterglow" came out in 2003, it was quickly scrutinized and compared to its predecessor. And while it has a different sound, the album is a lush, lyrical treat.

For the most part, "Afterglow" is full of ballads - songs that feature McLachlan's distinct vocals accompanied by piano and strings. But there is some fire here. 'Fallen' is a beautiful description of the mistakes we make in life, while 'World on Fire' shows vulnerability and uncertainty. And 'Stupid' is so brilliantly crafted that you will be humming it for days.

So what is it about this album that makes it so appealing? The descriptive lyrics, for one thing. In 'Drifting', for example, McLachlan sings, "Larger than life is your fiction in a universe made up of one." The songs are near-poetry that rivets the heart and describes the complexities of pain, love, and life. And the string arrangements are soothing, mellowing out the record.

Overall, "Fallen" is an album worth checking out. Is it different than McLachlan's other work? Definitely. But different isn't necessarily bad. And in this case, it's hauntingly breathtaking.

DVD&CD 2008-06-03
I have watched DVD a lot and listened to the CD numerous times.
Sarah and her band was very good on the concert.
I would recommend a must buy for music lovers.

Only one song worth listening to. The every song on the entire CD sounded the same with the exception of one.

What a voice 2007-12-31
"Afterglow" features all new songs including: "Fallen", "Stupid", "World on Fire", "Drifting", "Answer", "Trainwreck", "Perfect Girl", "Time", and "Push".

Great music 2007-10-29
I love this CD. Well worth the $$. The songs are haunting and relaxing. Just right for that romantic evening background

What an amazing start...... 2007-08-15
...because Afterglow was my very first exposure to Sarah Mclachlan.

There is something in this voice, in the lyrics, in the music, an authenticity, a sincerity, that flexes underneath these very simple songs, you never quite see it coming, it's a kind of emotional sucker-punch. I don't often cry, but oh my god, Sarah Mclachlan, Afterglow rung me out as silly as a submarine with screen doors.

The girl can sing. But Pierre Marchand deserves much praise for the foxlike subtlety of these arrangments and the ethereal flow from song to song. I was not surprised to learn that he has been an integral part of the Mclachlan magic for a long time. Kudos to Pierre, and to Sarah for choosing him.

Initially, Fallen and Stupid were the most important tracks to me, but eventually Push, Time, and Drifting, all worked their way into my heart as well. There are no weak tracks, non that I skip over.

I let Afterglow play continuously and exclusively for two weeks in my Nissan Pathfinder. I ran all kinds of silly errands, took the longest possible route, for any excuse at all, just be left alone with this incredible songwriter in my car.

After five days, I had to have it all, so I ordered her entire catalog, and yeah, okay I agree that Fumbling is amazing, and indeed, I'm not surprised that Surfacing sold 11 million units, but Afterglow is not dimished in the presence of these obvious masterworks.

5 Stars for Afterglow, and boogie on Sarah Mclachlan!

"I know you can't resist, trying to re-open a sore..." 2007-05-08
Afterglow by Sarah McLachlan is surprisely moving and wonderfully produced. I am not normally a McLachlan super-fan but some of her songs before this album are quite engaging. I decided to give this album a chance, standout tracks include: Time, Perfect Girl, Dirty Little Secret, Stupid, and Answer. Sarah's voice has improved and her lyrics are at its strongest. I could listen to the track, Time all day long, it sucks you in after the first 20 seconds, amazing! So whether you hate or love her, Afterglow will have you bathed in it for awhile. Enjoy!
