Top rated and worth every penny.

I purchased this unit after doing research on several consumer sites. It was highly rated and I must agree with the sites. The door is super quite, you can barely hear any noise. This unit replace a 9 year old craftsman chain unit, that was loud.
The unit is fairly easy to set up. I wouldn't call myself a handyman, but I am good with directions. I did the set up on my own in about 4 hours. I took so long, because the directions weren't very precise and I didn't want to mess up. Plus, I was doing it with no help. If you have some help, you may get this up and running in about 1 1/2 hours. I also used some of the old parts from my old set up. That may be why I didn't need some items that other reviews stated were missing.
Don't hesitate to buy this unit. It is highly rated and fairly easy to set up. Makes for an easy Saturday afternoon project. Great price on Amazon too with free shipping.
Great Opener, exceptionally quiet and easy to install.

I purchased this opener based on reviews from other like you. I didn't get it from Amazon but at Menard's on sale for $177. This was the best opener I have purchased yet.
First impressions were that the instructions were very large and this job would take me 4+ hours. Well I was wrong, it took me about 2 hours with use of the previous openers wires and ceiling bracket. The instructions were great, they listed out the screws you would need and a picture showing actual size!! With a screwdriver, wrench set, drill, and tape measure you can complete this job with no problems (assuming you are replacing an old opener).
As for performance, this opener is really quiet. My 14 year old sears opener was soooo loud. All I can hear now is the noisy door open and close. And when it does close it slows down for a softer close. The wall and car remotes come pre-programmed and the wireless keyless entry pad is an easy setup. The two bulb slots for 100 watt bulbs is great and allows for alot of light in the garage.
Overall this was a smart investment and I would highly recommend over a chain drive for a quieter and more reliable system. If you are able to handle a drill and a wrench you can install this opener with no issue, just patience and time. Note of advice, shop around before you order, both Menard's and Lowe's had this item on sale for $177 this week.
Remote Keypad going bad

I've had this opener for almost 3 years. It worked great until the last year, then sometimes I had to press the enter key twice or really hard on the keypad, and now in the last 4 months, over 1/2 the time, I can't open with keypad, or I am sitting outside for 10 minutes putting in the code over and over again until it opens. I'm currently looking online for repair/replacement options for the keypad.

Installed this a week ago, replacing a 15-year-old unit that was original with the house. The Chamberlain was very straight-forward to install, with excellent instructions. I'm very pleased with its performance - it is smooth and quiet and easy to adjust. Good deal!
Easy to assemble, not too hard to install

Assembling the opener was very easy.
The opener itself did not contribute to the challenge of installing, most of that was based on the designers of my garage. I only had to run to the hardware store once to pick up mounting brackets. That's a new record for me.
The instructions were well written and easy to follow.
The opener is quiet and it meets my functional expectations.

I had a chain drive before I got the Whisper Drive so installation was pretty easy, but if was a first time it would have taken a lot longer. I already had all the mounting brackets up so I just had to change out one bracket. It went together real simple so that was not a problem. I did it in the kitchen. I really like how quiet it is compaired to the chain drive. I'm real happy with it.

Chamberlain Whisper Drive 1/2 HP Garage Door Opener #WD822KD
We purchased this product to replace our ancient Genie opener and couldn't be more pleased with the operation and sound. After the inital, cumbersome, installation (we possibly should have decided to have it professionally installed to save some grief), we have found it to be very quiet.

Great door opener--quiet and easy to install--but Sears apparently feels compelled to stick it to the consumer at every turn. It was only after opening the box and taking inventory of the contents that the instructions mentioned that the opener in the box was only good for a 7 foot door. 8 and 10 foot doors require an extension kit--a $75+ (including shipping) box that contains a metal rail and a longer belt. That kit is a rip-off, considering it adds 45% to the original $180 cost of the basic opener. The basic opener also did not include brackets required to mount the system to a finished ceiling nor did it come with extenders required to mount the safety reversing electric eyes in most garages...another "accessory" you can order from Sears--for an additional charge, of course.
