Fun at first, but it just doesn't have it. 2008-09-09
When I first played this game I loved it. It was fun and pretty easy. But after 2 days it put me to sleep. Booooooooooring.

BEST RRT EVER 2008-03-22
It's fantastic.

Complex stock options. Buy short ect.
Issue shares, millions of them if you want to.

Buy out other companies. Innovative, and fun. Though I wish the A.I was about 10 times smarter. But still, the game is excellent.

Track layout, I love how it works.

The maps are huge. I love the graphics. So much better than Sid Meier's Railroads.

In RRT3 you can zoom in and out to incredible distances.

On the texas map, it can take a train 30 seconds to reach it's next stop. The map sizes are GREAT.

I like how the cargo assigns automatically.

The locomotives LOOK GREAT.

Love the economic model.

One of the greatest games...ever 2007-08-20
Quite simply, this game is still replayable four years after my original purchase.

For those who love the Railroad Tycoon series, this is one of those rare sequels that simply do not disappoint. Railroad Tycoon 3 improves upon one of the greatest games ever in a way that is truly astounding.

My biggest dislike about Railroad Tycoon 2 was the amount of micromanagement that was necessary in order to keep a large railroad empire running. That micromanagement is gone in RRT3, but for those who liked specifying exactly which cargo to put on each train, that option is still available.

The graphics are greatly upgraded, as is the game engine. Quite simply, this game just never gets tiring. Four years later, it is still one of the greatest games on the market.

Great Game 2007-05-14
I really enjoy playing this game. I 1st played it on "Game Tap" but I decided to order it so I can play it offine. This is a great game to own.

Building Railroads has Never Been Funner 2007-04-12
Railroad Tyvoon 3 is a great game. When playnig it you need a lot of skill, patience, and a good stradgedy. The game is very complicated but when there is a will there is a way. You can play trains from the begining of the first time trains were used or be trains in the future. This game is a total yes. If you have a Mac then type in Railroad Tycoon 3 for Macintosh and you will get a version for your Mac. Still I recomend this game.
I hope you by this game

P.S. Please do not mind my spelling.

wish i never bought this 2007-04-01

Better than Sid Meier's Railroads? 2007-02-17
This game is completely different from RT 2 and Sid's Railroads (the sequel to RT3). The supply & demand economy is complicated and realistic. For example, nobody will ship on your railroad if it's cheaper to transport it on the rivers. There are plenty of different cargo types and buildings, and unlike RT2, it is very profitable to run smart freight lines.

This game is difficult, and requires a lot of thought, whereas Sid's Railroads is simple, quick, and arcade-like. Sid Meier's Railroads is good, but if you want the true Tycoon game, I would highly recommend buying this.[...]

You might even learn something... 2006-12-27
I have not played the earlier versions of Railroad Tycoon, so can not compare, but RT3 is not only fun, its an education. You really get to know the geography and topography of a region that may be a little fuzzy in your head before you play it.

A strategy game focused on transportation, geography, topography, ecomomic development and playing the stock market may sound a little dry (like a really boring grade school Social Studies class)but its really very entertaining and interesting. Frankly I didn't know, and didn't think I wanted to know about buying stock on margin and selling short before I started this game, but because I want to win I sure know about them now.

In the first Midwestern champaign, does Chicago grow like gangbusters because the game designers program it to do so, or just because of its position on the map and its conditions(for instance it has a port on Lake Michigan that leads to the Atlantic)? If the latter is the case then that's very good design indeed.

My only complaint is that they should really make the game more realistic by adding signals and two way traffic. As it is the trains make 180 degree turns at depots and run through each other when they pass. Nevertheless, I highly recommend this game, in fact I think I'll play it now.

A nice game 2006-11-17
Greetings,

I bought that game because I played Transport Tycoon about 10 years ago. I thought it was the direct descendant of it. Obviously, it is not.

People mentionned that game is complicated. it is not. It took me one week to master the game and now I can't lose on any map or any difficulties. The game is fun to play and the learning curve is really easy. But there are very few things to do:
- Build tracks
- Establish some routes and chose/upgrade locos
- Move goods from low to high avalability
- Build buildings (rail stations, hotels, taverns, etc)
- Buy businesses
- Borrow money or issue shares
- Buy or sell shares

The difficulty is the order you do that or where do you lay out your tracks.

That is all! Nothing more. Transport Tycoon was more complicated because it included trucks and planes with the train.

Thank you

Railroad Tycoon 3 Reviewed After A Month 2006-08-17
This is a strategy game that involves building a railroad empire while playing the 19th/20th century stock market to your greedy advantage. The graphics are pretty good, the campaign/scenarios are fun the first time, and the economy simulation is honestly the best I've ever seen. After I completed the campaign and finished the scenarios though, I got bored of it. Once you master the complexities of this game you'll see that the seeded economy isn't all that great at providing a unique game each time. To be honest though, this is the best tycoon game I've played yet...and unfortunately I've been suckered into playing many of them.

Out of 5 (5 being the highest):

Graphics: 4
Fun: 4
Gameplay: 4
Replay Value: 1
_______________
Overall: 4

Just a last-minute note: You'll need to know some basics about how the stock market works to be successful at this game. It's nothing difficult though.
