Editorial Review
With songs equal to those on We Have the Facts and a lush, brilliant production that continues what The Photo Album started, Transatlanticism is easily Death Cab's best record to date. Much attention has duly been focused on doe-eyed singer/lyricist Ben Gibbard, co-star of the Postal Service phenomenon, and Ben's voice is as strange, beautiful, and as strong as ever on these songs, which deal with the difficulties of long-distance relationships. But guitarist/producer Chris Walla once again proves himself to be the band's secret weapon, layering subtle sonic touches throughout Transatlanticism, which is most definitely a "headphone record." This Seattle quartet is one of the only bands to really have picked up the intelligent, emotionally resonant, and guitar-driven indie-pop torch that Built to Spill briefly lit in the mid-1990s (before themselves heading off to the stoner-rock territory). DCFC themselves seem poised to finally break out to a wider audience, and they truly deserve it with this disc. --Mike McGonigal

Amazingly Beautiful Album 2007-11-23
This album is the most emotionally wrought, clever, beautiful piece of musicianship that I've heard in years. This is an amazing narrative about one's search for self in the face of love and loss and overcoming pain. Every time I listen to this album I pick up more of the complex themes that Gibbard has woven into the tapestry that make this a work of greatness and depth. Five stars, hands down.

Excellent Album 2007-11-04
One of my favorite albums of all time! Death Cab For Cutie is seriously one of the best artists out there right now.

1. The New Year 4/5 Great start
2. Lightness 3.5/5 A little boring
3. Title and Registration 4.5/5 Great
4. Expo '86 3.5/5 One of my least favorites
5. The Sound of Settling 5/5 One of my faves on the album. Up beat and interesting
6. Tiny Vessels 5/5 Very underrated. Listen to the whole thing! It's a beautiful song.
7. Transatlanticism 4.80/5 Very good song. A little boring, but beautiful and meaningful.
8. Passenger seat 4.5/5 Very slow and soothing
9. Death of an Interior Decorator 3.80/5 Alright
10. We Looked Like Giants 4/5
11. Lack of Color 5.25/5 Beautiful song. one of the best ones on this album.

I recommend this album to anyone.

Seattle should be proud. 2007-08-05
This is one of those bands I'd heard of for awhile (catchy band name), and a buddy of mine just turned me on to this disc and PLANS about a month ago, along with 2 of their bootleg concerts. I'm impressed. PLANS has been in my car CD player for a few weeks now, and this one has been in my bedside CD radio, which makes for pleasant waking up in the morning. As the guy from San Francisco mentioned in his Aprill 22, 2006 review, I'm also in my 50's and have loved most contemporary rock from the mid-60's up to today. If this is truly an "emo" band (which comes off as kind of a derogatory term), then sign me up. I like this one a little better than PLANS and won't go into individual reviews of each song (all of which I like), but for me the high point of the disc is the title track. The way the song starts out on a low-key narration and builds to its astounding climax with the chorus of "I need you so much closer/So come on..." just blows me away. Beautiful. I hope to have the good fortune of seeing these guys in concert soon. If you haven't heard their stuff yet and are considering it, I couldn't recommend this CD more as a primer.

meh 2007-05-25
It's okay. A friend of mine gave me a mix one time that had Title and Registration on it. I bought it because thats one of my favorite songs and I was hoping that all the songs on the album would be that good. Theres a couple other good ones on there but I am not a hardcore Death Cab fan either so I'm sure all you hardcore Death Cab fans will scoff at me for not falling head over heals for Transatlanticism. Its an okay album but not one of my favorites.

these songs are so wonderful 2007-02-27
Passenger Seat and Lightness are my favorite songs. If you have to buy one album this year buy this one. It is a great album. This is not shouting junk like nu-metal. This music is fun and it is easy going so you can listen when you are relaxing. it is good with lyrics that are thoughtful. I dont know but I was thinking this might be the best album I have heard all year besides the Babel soundtrack. I would really like to see this band in concert. I think this style of music can be enjoyed by many people whether they like folk, alternative or blues. This album may not grab you right off the bat but I myself find the more I listen to it the more I love it!

A Very Good Album 2008-06-20
I recently watched their Transatlanticism tour "Drive Well Sleep Carefully" on HBO and loved the songs. Normally I don't purchase an entire album unless I'm familiar with the artist and their music. So, I was pleasantly surprised by this purchase because it is a very good album. Other than just liking the sound of the band, I also enjoyed the enthusiasm that is evident when listening to their songs, like they really love what they're doing. I'm not good at giving reviews, I just know what I like, and I definitely like this album. I will probably end up buying all of their albums.

This is a great example of Ben Gibbard's introspective lyrics and songwriting ability. The song "Transatlantticism" is one of, if not the best DCfC songs. I was unaware of them until the song was featured on "Six Feet Under"....from there on out, I was hooked on their music. What a breathe of fresh air!

death cab roks! 2008-04-07
i love death cab. i personally think that this is one of their BEST albums. you cant beat title and registration. that song alone is worth the cd's price. worth EVERY penny...cause you'll NEVER tire of it! :)

A bit dissapointing 2008-02-07
I love death cab. thier album plans "awesome" their other albums, "sweet" but this one lacks a certian something that causes it to lose much of the flare so common on death cab cds. their beats are more rock, less of that free spirited tune that made you want to bounce your head to the rythm. if you like death cab go ahead buy it. if your into that whole rock-hardrock scene, go ahead. but it left me with a deep sorrow in the pit of my stomach aching to once again know the death cab that had become dead to me.

This CD saved my life! 2007-12-12
A gem! I highly recommend this album to everyone I know! I got this album about 5 years ago I guess but I still listen to it! If you haven't listened to this cd yet, you don't know what you're missing!
