Editorial Review
This bench-top Belt Sander is the ideal companion to bandsaws and scroll saws. Edge sand in tight corners and curved surfaces with ease. Table tilts to 45 degrees which also makes this belt sander an excellent sharpening tool for your chisels and turning tools.

Needs some work, but OK considering the cost 2004-02-09
I have a small garage shop with very limited room. I have an excellent Jet Belt/Disc sander already, but needed a small 1" belt sander for those small jobs, so I bought this portable unit from Grizzly. Good points: small and light, but the rubber feet hold it firmly on the workbench. Seems powerful enough. The belt tracking adjustment is a little cheesy but seems to work OK. The left side cover is plastic and easily removed to allow access to the belt mechanism. The dust port is also molded into this cover and seems to work OK. Now the not so good: the table tilt adjustment is fairly crude and the adjustment lever is right next to the motor cover making it difficult to turn. It would have made so much more sense to put it on the other side. Worse, the plastic motor cover interferes with the rear of the table, making it impossible to level the table 90 degrees to the belt. Well, the nice thing about this tool is it can modify itself! I removed the table and used the now-tableless sander to grind off about 1/4" of the right rear corner of the table. It now clears the motor cover just fine. Because of these fit and finish issues I give this sander 3 stars. Overall, though, I think it's a good value for the money. It's quite small, relatively quiet and has plenty of power. Time will tell how well it will hold up, but so far it's meet my needs.

Good but could be better 2008-05-19
I had this little Grizzly H3140 1 x 30" belt sander for just over a month now. I had a chance to give it a good work out. It serves it's purpose and for the price can't complain too much. The big problem is (and I know it is design and can not be resolved) is the crown in the drive wheels. it puts a bow in the belt so there is no way of getting a nice flat sanding surface with light pressure. The belt has even cut a "U" shape into the table top. It will stall if you try and get aggressive. In fact when I put on a new belt it barley had the power to run it because it was so tight. After it ran a bit and the belt stretched out it was fine. It is certainly not a precision sander and if you think you can get nice small precise sanding this is not for you. It is a great little sander for small stuff too small for the bench top. It is stable and will sit any ware with out fastening it down.

grate buy. 2008-03-11
it's money will spent.i like it because of it's size. it will fit anywhere, when there not much room to work. i even took it to the shop and ues it. and it's grate for hobbies too.i build boats & cars. ....not very good at this, if you would like to call i can answer better over the phone,

Great machine, great price... 2008-01-03
I bought this sander from amazon.com. I have a 4" craftsman that I use for my heavy-duty stuff, but I needed this stand-up style belt for one kind of job. For less than $100 its a great machine. It tracks well, the belt is decent quality, the motor is quiet and powerful.

I would not recommend this to be the ONLY sander you have in your shop, but if you need the free-standing belt style for some jobs, this is a great buy!

Great little Sanding Machine! 2007-10-10
I needed a belt sander for a Girl Scout event, where our troop was making and selling S'more Sticks. We had 7/8" x 4' dowels and sanded a point on them with the belt sanded and then finished by hand. We sold close to 100 sticks in 7 hours, and this machine was a little workhorse! It was small enough and safe enough for all of the kids to "help" sand their own sticks and get some experience operating a belt sander. I had purchase a 10 pack of extra belts, thinking they might break or wear out, but never opened the box!

My husband is a custom cabinet maker and has larger belt sanders, but nothing that would have worked this well and been as easy to transport and set up for an event like this. He is looking forward to using it with the Boyscouts for making the pinewood derby cars. He was quite impressed with the performance of this unit.

Nice job, Grizzly!

First of all, this sander does not come with a nice shiny black metal motor as seen in picture, instead black plastic. It is very light and portable. The problem is you can not sand a true 90o angle no matter how much you adjust the table and belt back support. Motor bogs down very easily.I'll probably give to my neighbor. If any one has found a 1" belt sanders that sands a true 90o angle sander please tell me make and model.
