Gets the hair off!

I've never written a review nor have I ever used an epilator before but I felt compelled to write this one. IMO, I think the key to epilating is to exfoliate first. I started a beauty regime since I am now 1 year away from the big 50!
I started by buying a Neutrogena Wave Power Cleanser, Pink to clean my face daily which also exfoliates. Then I started using the Emjoi Sin Dolar epilator (Walmart or Target) to use on my face. Since exfoliating for about a week before I used this it worked wonderfully. I then bought the Emjoi EpiSlim to do the smaller parts of my face and upper lip. To my surprise it got hairs off that the bigger one missed! It did a wonderful job on my upper lip and it did not really "hurt". IMO it felt just like tweezing, just more than one hair at a time.
I do think that the exfoliating helped with the "pain" and also in stopping the ingrown hairs and bumps that some people have experienced. I did use the wave to exfoliate and clean before I epilated, since it is gentle on my face and can be used daily. The key is to use a very light touch with the epilator and move in very small slooooowww circles around your face. This is not a quick process like shaving, this takes way more time but the results are worth it. I think I did it a little longer than most because to me it felt like a facial massage. The hair on my face is very much like peach fuzz though so this may be why it did not hurt me. I used a large table top mirror that has a magnifying mirror on one side and a plain mirror on the other and light up. I put on a homemade moisturizer when I was finished as I do nightly for the past week.
I am writing this the day after this process and my face did not break out nor do I have ingrown hairs, the hair is gone; my face is not red but is soft and smooth. For me this was a great experience and entrance into the world of epilating. I am looking into getting a better one for my legs and arms. I am getting ready to use the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Rejuvenator, The Anti Aging Power Treatment Kit for some deep down cleaning.

Worth it. 2008-04-21
This product works as well as I would expect from Emjoi. It is a little stronger than most, and you do have to be careful not to use too much pressure, but it really gets everything! I bought this to replace a Braun Silk Epil Facial Epilator and it does a better job, and faster.
Even though I bought it for facial use, it would be great for leg, underarm, and bikini touch-ups while traveling. I just wish it came with a travel or storage case of some kind. I had to use a cosmetics case of my own for storage, but at least it's small enough to fit in one. (That's why I only give it 4 stars.)
Works well, but watch out--quality control seems to be iffy.

I ordered the emjoi epilator ap 9lc to replace an ancient Epilady I'd had since epilators for facial hair first came on the market. It worked so much better than my old one--faster, longer-lasting, and no more painful--that I was delighted and ordered another for a vacation home.
However, the first one stopped working after 12 months. SInce it was still under warranty, I returned it to the manufacturer for repair or replacement. Since I was told that could take up to a month, I ordered a 3rd one through Amazon; that one arrived yesterday and didn't work at all on three different sets of batteries (all tested first). I now have to return that to the vendor, which is time-consuming and annoying, not to mention the shipping fee, which comes to over 25% of the purchase price and which the vendor won't refund (the vendor only pays for the cost of the return, via an RNA label).
Bottom line: Good product, poor quality control.

I like this product quite abit. it beats shaving and bleaching. The only reason I am not giving it a 5 star is because it pains so much. Other than that, I love it.
You have to get use to this thing

Well, I was very excited to receive this, but it didn't work as hoped for me. I purchased it for use in the bikini and under arm area. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to achieve results in the under arm area. I felt like I couldn't get the skin taught enough. I lacked the correct angle and needed more hands I think. As for the bikini area, it worked ok, but left me too irritated. I followed the instructions and exfoliated, but I was still left w/ some ingrown hairs. I had this problem before w/ waxing, so I think I am just not a good candidate for this kind of hair removal.
Overall a good way to get rid of hair 2008-07-20
I got this epilator to try something new for my underarms. Shaving was getting aggravating with my insanely thick hair, and waxing wasn't working for me. I tried this epilator the second the box hit my door step. I'm not going to lie.. it's painful.. and I have a pretty high tolerance for pain, and there was some slight bleeding. But it works! I could only do seperate areas for just a few seconds, and although it didn't pick up every hair, my underarms look much better than before. I can see myself using this for years to come. I assume it will get less painful and the hair will grow slower and thinner. The problems I have with it: It's loud. Not like a soft little buzz.. No. It's a very frightening noise. My roommates probably think I'm using a mini chainsaw. It's pretty fun watching the hairs get plucked up and brushing them off the epilator makes you realize the progress. It works.. and it didn't cost an arm and a leg! I'm glad I bought it.
maybe im not using it right? 2008-07-17
ive used this product maybe twice since i bought it. i dont really like it. ive read the directions and am following them the best i can but it just isnt working for me. i find it doesnt get all of the hair from my upper lip and that if you use it for a LITTLE while the metal part that pulls the hair gets very hot and burns. then again, maybe im not using it right, this is my first epilator.
