Rust-away

This product will remove light rust from raw metal surfaces. I used it on my wood joiner, table saw and band saw. It worked great. However, you will notice discoloration in the areas where rust had been. After using the sealer the surfaces were back to their original smoothness. It was worth the money if you have no other similar products at home.
Topsaver is tops

Restored an oxidized saw table to almost new. Easy to use. Finally, a product that actually works on rust.
Exactly what it says

Top Saver claims to clean, polish, wax and protect the surface of your tools...and it's done all of those for me. From my brand new tablesaw that needed to be cleaned initially, to an old rusty scroll saw, both surfaces are clean and smooth for use now. Glad I bought it instead of separate cleaners and waxes.
It just doesn't do what it claims to do.

I read all the reviews here before I bought this product. It is also very highly spoken of on the Woodworking forums. I bought a brand new Unisaw and set it up in my garage shop. Within one week the top started showing some light rust. I pulled out the TopSaver (TM) to come to the rescue. It worked great at removing the rust...a bit of elbow grease required but it did come off. I followed the instructions to a "T". Now for the interesting part. I applied it while it was cold out. About 1-2 days later it warmed up and some precipitation formed on the cast iron tables. By day three the top was completely re-rusted - I would say worse than it was before the Topsaver was even applied. THREE DAYS! That's it. Wy wife came home through the garage and said to me - and I quote "You should have used that stuff you bought to keep the saw from rusting, it looks terrible." Three days.
Now granted, I live in Southern Vermont, in a valley, and it can get very humid here. Also the saw is in my garage and not a climate controlled workshop. So this is worst-case-scenario conditions for testing this product. But under those conditions I can tell you with 100% certainty - it just doesn't work. Maybe the positive reviews are coming in from people who are using it in climate-controlled, dehumidified indoor workshops and probably don't even need it in the first place. I can't say. I can say that I might use it to remove the rust and then cover with a wax or synthetic auto sealant.
PS - If you are going to use this product to remove rust, I would recommend applying with a random orbital sander. Just attach a Scotch Brite pad to a hook-and-loop backing plate. This will save you tons of time over applying by hand. I would also remove as much rust as possible with steel wool first to save on costly Topsaver - otherwise you will be reapplying multiple times needlessly.
Very Impressed

I have had this product for about a year. i have only had to use it on my Jet Cabinet saw twice. The saw table looks like new. Don't know how a product could work any better.
If your not having very good luck with this item, then may I suggest you read the directions! LOL

TopSaverTM is unlike anything ever made. It is a Rust Remover, Lubricant, Surface Sealant, Conditioner for metal surfaces. It completely removes rust and corrosion from the pores of the metal surface. It reduces sliding friction, eliminates binding and surface hang-ups on tabletops, repels moisture and seals the surface pores against rust and corrosion. You simply apply TopSaverTM with its easy to use pump spray applicator and massage into the metal surface to remove rust and corrosion. Wipe the surface clean, then reapply and buff. Once your equipment has been treated with Top SaverTM this brilliant conditioner will bond itself onto the metal surface creating a lubricous deep rich finish that will reduce surface hang-ups and last for weeks or months depending upon usage.

I expected more. I get the same results with other products
If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Purchased this product (after reading the positive online reviews here) to remove rust from the table of my Unisaw that had been in unconditioned storage for several years.
Let's just say that the results were less than what the manufacturer claims & other reviewer's experiences; it works, but not very well. I used 3 applications of this stuff, & was able to remove about 50% of the surface rust.
Now, I'm not suggesting it doesn't work, only that it wasn't a magic fix. After spending a half hour scrubbing the table, & using about half a bottle of this stuff, I figure I could have gotten just as good or better results using another method, like sanding. I'll probably resort to that at this point, & save what's left in the bottle to use as a conditioner once I get the rust removed.
Most Outstanding Rust Remover

This product does everything it says it will! I live near the gulf coast & moisture is a big problem. I had severe rust in one area of my table saw & light rust in other areas & on my jointer. I followed the directions, sprayed the table tops, rubbed with the scotch brite pads, wiped down with paper towels & the rust was amazingly gone. I've tried some other acclaimed products & they couldn't get close to Topsaver. The table tops look like new & are now ready to be taken care of to prevent the rust from happening again. Empire says to use Table Top which protects the surfaces better than topsaver even though it does provide some surface protection. The Table Top will last longer & not require as frequent re-treatment as Topsaver. I'm trying it out now so that I don't have to treat the surfaces as often as Topsaver would require. Topsaver is a first class product!!

I would never buy this product again, at any price; Waist of Money! It might remove some surface rust and provided some lubrication BUT don't expect to do any more then that. I tried it on a table saw with cast iron top, framing square and handsaw. None of the items looks any better after using the TopSafer, still RUSTY . I have to say I only used the 1.5oz bottle that came with "Empire Manufacturing TOOL-12D The Complete ToolSaver System" kit; but I truly feel that it would not matter if I had used a gallon of this stuff.
FYI, I also used the BaldeSaver and wasn't impressed.
UPDATE, 10/25/06
It seemed to work as a rust inhibiter. The table saw top hasn't gotten any worse since I tried to remove the rust from it with this product.
I would rate it for rust removal 1 star rust inhibitor 4 stars
