desktop magnifyer

My mother is able to read her papers with the help of this desktop magnifyer. She enjoys sitting on the sofa, turning the pages, and feeling a sense of "freedom" to being able to read without having to feel encumbered.

Disappointing

Very disappointing. The lens is flimsy, thin plastic and does not magnify items as expected without constant "fiddling". I had to move the lens around too much to get any kind of magnification at all. I work with documents and numbers all day and need to be able to have something that will sit on my desk and magnify a whole page at a time without constant adjusting. This item simply did not do the rrick for me.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY

Don't waste your money on this piece of junk, barely magnifies the page, is bulky and the "magnifier" doesn't lock in place. No way can it be 4x by 6x magnification. I have a 5x mirror at home to puts this to shame.

Waste of money

This product is poor quality, especially the lens. We bought it to use for some fine point craft projects but everything is so out of focus that the magnifier is useless. This magnifier has now become just a toy for the kids and takes up space on a shelf most of the time. The base and articulating arm are of decent quality, definately higher quality than the lens.

not what I hoped

I purchased this for my mother who has macular degeneration and has difficulty seeing. This was nothing more than a piece of plastic that somewhat magnified but it was very unclear and not helpful at all for her.

Reading Magnifier

Timeliness: Seller shipped within promised time. Quality: The unit is simplicity itself to assemble and the weighted base would give great stability to it BUT the magnifying lens is such a cheap plastic that all images seen through it are skewed. For the price, I certainly expected a much better quality. I'll be sending this back but after the seller deducts "handling" of 15% plus the shipping fees, I will really be in the hole for ordering this piece of inferior ----.

Disappointed

The reading magnifiers I ordered 09/29/04 finally arrived 10/19/04 after a call to the seller. (Original order was shipped to Amazon.com so it had to be reshipped to me.) It only took 5 minutes or so to assemble one of the reading magnifiers, and it is possible to adjust it to just about any position with the clever arm. The weighted base does keep it from falling over. Unfortunately, the thin plastic lense is such poor quality that it is very difficult to receive any benefit from the device. If the user turned the adjustment knob too far, it and the nut that holds it together would fall off. The nut is small and must be inserted into the outside of the adjustment knob to assemble the device. The knob actually turns the nut onto the screw. Presumably the device is for someone with low vision. If the small nut falls to the floor, I'm not sure someone with low vision would be able to find it. My advice is to save your money and buy a quality device with a nice glass lens.... and if possible, try the device out before buying.
