Editorial Review
The Accuscribe from FastCap scribes cabinet trim, architectural moldings, countertops, tile and more for cleaner cuts and more creative freedom on a wide variety of projects. The Accuscribe maintains consistent scribe offset and stays parallel to surfaces as you mark out the pattern or cut-- a great feature for installing splash guards, cutting tile, and designing floors. The device's adjustable grip locks standard-size pencils tightly in place. The AccuScribe is made of heavy-duty, indestructible polymer for years of reliable use. The unit's articulating pencil head increases flexibility for scribing over a wide variety of materials and textures. A removable compass point makes it easy to scribe circles and circular patterns. A handy storage clip for the compass point ensures optimal safety and longer compass life. The AccuScribe's non-rocking bottom keeps the unit flat against the surface or wall for flush contact with the pencil tip. The tool collapses to a compact size to take up less room in the toolbox. The Accuscribe measures 5-3/4 by 4-13/16 inches when fully extended (length by height).

Unreliable
2007-10-18
Poor execution of a good idea. The nut used to tighten this in the desired position simply doesn't work. It's very easy for the setting to change as you're using it. So what good is it if it won't stay where you set it? Not much, I say.
sucks.

Doesn't stay locked into positions so measurements are completely off. It is awkward to use and cumbersome. Don't waste your time or money.
Excellent additon to measuring tools

This scribing tool is very handy for scribing arcs and marking off lines parallel to an edge. Simple to use and very accurate. The thumb screws have to be secured very tightly, or the settings may move. Not a huge deal, just be sure to give them a good hard twist.
Poor design

The leg that holds the pin is made up of two plastic halfs and nothing holds them together. As a consiquence, the pin keeps falling out and the two halfs split apart.
I tried to contact the manufacturer, Fastcap, and complain but the URL stamped on the product is not a working website. I guess they are so proud of their products they want to hide.
Disappointing

I've tried to use this a few times, but it's almost completely worthless. It's too bulky to use for scribing small distances or in tight areas. It's plastic, so it flexes a little bit which precludes you from getting an accurate scribe. When I scribed a countertop backsplash, it left a nice gouge in the drywall. Back to an old-fashioned compass.
New Model Improved

This Product has been improved and the nuts will now hold it in place. If you have one that does not work contact FastCap [...] and they will replace it or take care of you in a way that will satisfy you. Their customer service is unbelievable! If there is a way they can improve it let them know, they'll listen!
Nice tool

The joint makes it easy to work with. The only thing I would like to see changed is the pencil holder. I would like to be able to use a mechanical pencil or pen. The pencil provided (standard #2 pencil) is the only style that will fit. I'd buy it again.
Great---mostly.

Great idea and well built. I first saw it in a wooden boat magazine and thought it looked good. As a wood worker, drawing circles is a common problem. I've used it a couple times and have these observations:
1. It holds it's position and measurement quite well.
2. It is constructed of good materials.
3. The pin pulls back for safe stage, but doesn't stay in the extended position without the help of a little electrical tape.
4. I think it would be nice if the pin side would also swivel to allow larger circles.
Would I recommend it? Yes, but the builder could improve their design a bit.
Works like a charm

I have been pleased with the workmanship and functionality of my "scribe" which I've used mainly as a compass. I like the fact that the device locks in whatever position I want. There are a number of features that I haven't explored. There is a built-in sharpener, and I figure if I need to do a really large circle I can just put in a long pencil instead of the stub that it comes with.
I keep it handy in my shop. A good value.
Works good, what little that I have used it.
