Broke twice in 1 1/2 years 2005-06-07
I received this unit as a Christmas 2004 gift. In August 2004 it failed (under warranty) and required a new internal dvd drive. In January 2004 it failed again (out of warranty by 1 month) and the authorized reoair center said both circuit boards had failed and would cost $400 to repair. I junked the unit.

When it worked it was nice, but the poor quality greatly out weighs any nice things about this unit.

Pretty decent product 2004-12-23
This seems to work fairly well, however, I think it's probably a question of price tradeoff vs. the 10" Sony.

Discs are difficult to remove from the slot because there is no "groove" to put your finger in, which I think the Sony does have.

Also the battery life is 3 hours vs. 7 hours on the Sony.

It does have a button to "reverse display" and turn picture around, which I thought was useful, but now I don't know if I need it.

Also, I wish these had a volume control on the remote, but I guess the Sony has the same problem.

Conclusion: Get the Sony if your budget & product usage allows it, otherwise this is definitely a good choice when compared to the no name brands.

poor display 2007-05-09
This is an expensive (comparatively) DVD player and the large display would have been great - if you could see it. The picture is so dark that you spend the whole time tilting the whole thing this way and that to try to get the best angle for viewing. Many scenes are just not watchable.

Broke Twice in Two Years 2006-07-05
When it worked, it was great.

When it worked.

First, like in other reviews, one day it just died. Luckily, it was under warranty and Samsung did fix it. They said the motherboard got fried, but all I did was charge it...?

Then, over the past few months, the screen started to get dimmer and dimmer, so that I can't watch any dark scenes at all in a normally-lit room. Trying to watch Sin City was like listening to a radio show with occasional white flashes on the screen.

Finally, tonight, the thing just died again. Since it isn't covered by the warranty anymore, this time it goes in the trash.

same as the others 2006-03-30
I too bought mine a year and three months ago. It was working great and then all of sudden stoped working and will not turn on or charge. I bought this refurbished agreed to pay extra for a extended four year warranty but will see what comes of that. My suggestion is buy the longest warranty possible for any of these portable dvd players as i have heard of problems with many different brands.

broken for me too 2005-12-27
I like this player, but it has now failed, and i take it from the other reviews that i am not going to be able to find it worthwhile to repair. I've had it for a year. Very disappointing. It won't read any dvds, not commercially purchased ones, not ones i've burned, nothing, nada, zip. It grunts and grinds for several minutes and then says "disc cannot be read."

Beware... 2005-12-15
This DVD Player had problems after I owned it for 8 months. The power supply simply did not want to agree to turn on and after 3 repair shops told me that it was not worth the repair cost I tossed the unit.
