Black & Decker 18-Volt Cordless Electric Broom
2008-07-13
I've owned the Black & Decker 18-Volt Cordless Electric Broom for almost a month now and no complaints thus far. The charge does hold for a long time and the power is constant however it would be nice if it was more powerful but then again it's lightweight and priced reasonably.
Where is the Second Battery??
2008-07-09
I always read the reviews to help me make a decision before making a purchase. Many reviews refer to a SECOND battery or EXTRA BATTERY INCLUDED. This unit, however, only came with ONE battery. Broom does a good job for light work. I would have rated item 5 stars had it not been for the missing expected battery.
black & decker 18 volt cordless blower.

This Black & Decker cordless blower is just what the Dr. ordered. No more sweeping down the drive-way. Now I can blow it off in half the time it took to sweep it. Good product.
Just Strong Enough
2008-06-30
This blower has the perfect balance of weight and power. As it is my first blower, I have found it to be sufficient for blowing grass clippings off the sidewalk after mowing the lawn. It is lightweight and the battery lasts long enough to service my townhome yard. The battery can also be used in the NST2018 trimmer, which is a plus. It probably would not be strong enough to blow around leaves in the fall.
Underpowered

I owned the predecesssor to this model which was a 12 volt rechargable which hung on the wall in its recharger. the plastic impeller came apart (bad plastic or design) and tried to buy the part. I couldn't do it so I bought this 18 volt cordless model. it has considerably less power than the 12 volt, which had a battery about twice the size of the 18.volt. I will grant it is a benefit that the 18 volt has a removable battery so I can change batteries when one runs down but even when the battery is fresh, it does not blow as hard as the old model. Only consider this machine if you have a small area to do and nothing very heavy to blow.
Great and easy to use

This is a great blower for everyday yard things. It's not incredibly powerful, but in return it's pretty lightweight and is cordless, which is extremely convenient. Good product for light to moderate work.
Only good for small jobs...

This 'broom' works great for about 30 minutes. Then pretty much runs out of steam. I was expecting more given the large battery
Makes Life Easier

I just got my cordless broom tonight in the mail. I also own the Black and Decker cordless electric trimmer which came with two batteries that also fit this item. So I was up and running in a few seconds after unpacking. I didn't have big expectations for this after reading the reviews, but I've been so satisfied with my other Black and Decker cordless products, I decided to give it a try. I have two huge evergreens near the side of my house which leave a lot of needles and other debris on my porch. Of course, I could sweep (which I do about five times a season), but that means moving all the big pots, my grill, tables, etc to get in between. This blows sweeping away! So right off the start, I know I've gotten my money's worth. Next, I'll be cleaning the leaves out of my garage that accumulate there every year. Man, I love B&D cordless products - I first started with a cordless electric lawn mower about ten years ago, and it's still going!! Thank you B&D...and if you ever need a poster child for your products, I'm your woman!
The Battery/Charger is the Achilles Heel
2008-07-17
I purchased the B&D Cordless Electric Broom after having great experience with the B&D Grass Hog 18V cordless String Trimmer. The latter has performed very well but the former has greatly disappointed.
The B&D Electric Broom, as a very light duty broom replacement, is marginally adequete when brand new, with a new, fully charged battery. Unfortunately, the honeymoon period is very short. A very noticeable decline in usable runtime inspite of carefully following the typical NiCd, full discharge before charging, regimen. In a few months time of fairly infrequent use and, despite doing everything possible to maximize battery life, the battery's performance declines to a point of needing replacement. Given the marginal "broom" performance and the cost/life cycle of replacement batteries, it is very hard to justify a continued relationship with something I typically only use to blow out the garage with.
I begrudgingly give the B&D Cordless Broom a two star rating only because it's not the absolutely worst product I've ever had BUT BEWARE of the issues I've included in this review and know up front that while it will blow out birthday candles it can't be seen as an alternative to a regular corded or gas powered blower. I use my Toro Ultra for any serious blowing and have had great luck with past Toro Blowers over many years as well.
Love this freaking thing but batteries don't last
2008-07-15
I bought this just under 2 years ago. It came with charger and 2 batteries.. It usually takes both batteries power to finish up whatever i'm doing.. I use this literally every day in my house! I have all tile floors and 5 cats. Cats tails are like dust mops, they bring in every small stick, leaf and every thing else and deposit it across the floor. One fo the first things I do everyday is open the front door and blow out every damn thing they dragged in.
Sadly with time the batteries were lasting less and less time. I charge them every day then store them in a drawer (not the hot garage) butthey've totaly quit charging now. So I'll try to replace the batteries.. I'm not even sure if I need a new charger too... I'm disappointed these batteries wore out so quickly. 'that's too big an expense to replace so often.
As for the blower itself it is very light weight and easy to use.
