Great alarm clock!

I love this clock. It's compact, easy to set and the sounds are really relaxing. You'll have to turn the volume up pretty loud when using the sounds for waking, because they're relaxing in their own way. Pretty cool the way the time is displayed on the ceiling, though we don't use it because it's a little bright. I'd buy this clock again!
overhead clock = homedco clock/radio

We received this item in A-1 condition. It has proven to be all that it was advertised. Thank you.
Evil in a box

When on vacation, we realized we had forgotten our daughters white noise machine, we went to a nearby walgreens and this was the only white noise machine choice.
The recorded sounds are extremly poor quality. The green numbers in front and the projection are too bright. The lights completely filled the room, it seemed there was no way to escape the surface-of-the-sun-bright lights. We ended up having to throw a big bath towel over it, which dimmed the lights but also drowned the sounds.
Great idea; so-so design

My favorite aspects are: 1) it's easy to project the time onto the ceiling in a big font size; 2) the sounds (e.g., ocean) are relaxing. The aspects that I like the least are: 1) there are a lot of small buttons and it's impossible to tell which is which except in a well-lit room. It would be better if the labels were lit up. 2) the volume and radio tuner are adjusted by moving a dial. It's easy to move the device and accidentally turn down the volume. This can be a problem if you've set the clock-radio alarm and the radio volume is too low. 3) the ocean and other sounds are good in theory, but the sound quality is sub-par
OK while it lasted

This is a good entry-level sound machine, but don't expect amazing quality. The projection time was great, but only lasted about 3 or 4 months and then stopped functioning. It just forecasts 88:88.
The sounds are OK, but fairly repetitive / "low budget". If you are interested in a sound machine, I'd recommend checking out the Brookstone line. I just upgraded to the Brookstone travel alarm tranquil moments sound machine. The sound quality is much improved. There is no projection on that clock, but then again, there isn't on my version of this product anymore, either.
The other product is easier to travel with. I will take when staying in a hotel to avoid hearing lots of outside noises.
Nice starter sounds assortment for the money

Nice sounds, easy to use, eaasy to change time accidentally

Pros: Nice clock, nice projection, easy to set clock and alarms, decent sounds
Cons: WAY too easy to accidentally change the time by hitting the wrong button on top.
Garbage

As others have mentioned, the projector broke in about a week. It was not mistreated or even *moved*. The sounds all suck, period, unless you think /dev/urandom catted through a 1 cent speaker is soothing. The design is plain terrible - whoever decided that there should be non-activated buttons on clocks to adjust the time must hat people who, you know, actually *use* things. Translated that means there is an hour an a min button that change the time if you happen to mistakenly hit them - there is no "set time" switch or timed hold feature. Worse than that, *every* button on the clock is the same shape and easy to hit by mistake when going for the snooze *bar* which makes using this clock an exercise in paranoia if you actually want to snooze because of all the different fun ways you can easily change the time or turn off the alarm. Do not buy this unless you hate money. I plan to set fire to mine when I run out of kindling this winter.
Broke in less than a week, get something else

I was basically looking for a sound machine alarm clock, and decided to go with this model as opposed to the Conair SU7 because of the projection feature and I had seen that the Conair's display might be too bright. The HoMedics model is really disappointing. The sounds are okay, but there are not enough of them and out of the six sounds I would only use 2-3. The worst thing is that the projection feature broke within the first 3 days, so now I basically just have a plain $30 alarm clock that does the exact same thing my $10 clock did. This model is obviously not made very well at all, so perhaps try the Conair model or go with something else entirely.
There were other reviews saying the projection feature broke regularly, but I was hoping this was a fluke with the models they recevied. That's obviously not the case as it's a quality issue.
BOTH completely failed to work!

I bought one of these (in a store) and once I got it home saw that it would not project the time propertly - only a blue dot on the ceiling. I took it back to exchange it for another one. This time the buttons only worked intermittently, but I finally got it to work... for about 3 hours. Then the front display screen went completely blank, and the projector would only show "88:88." This has to be the shoddiest product I've run across in years!
