I ordered mine before Thanksgiving. It is a great product! My son is autistic and he has problems with attention and fine motor skills. It keeps him busy for hours! I even have fun with it and I hope to purchase some more sets but I guess I will have to be extremely quick if I want any others.
That said, I tried to get these in the stores and I will say this DON'T BOTHER. I had to order mine online. The people in the store just gave me the run around about if they would have them in stock at all. Of course from reading the reveiws, I know that all the stores said this.
My set says the manufacterer is Rose Art not Imaginarium. I think you need to voice your complaints to them for not producing enough, the TRU/Imaginarium/Amazon corporation for the false advertising and failure to even attempt to stock the items and the rain check issues, and the stores general manager for the rude employees. If the manager is rude I would report this as well to the corporation.
I agree that there is nothing wrong with the product, in fact, its the most fun I have had with a toy in a while! The problem is the supply and distribution of the product as well as the price for some.
Just adding my two cents.
Huh?

I am surprised at all the huff about availability of this item. Toys-r-us put the ad out in Nov for the 250 pc. I called the store, they had plenty in stock, OFFERED to hold 1 for me and I went and picked it up. I was very happy.
Can't find them? I know where you can !!

I found the Magnetix toy at Costco Wholesale. It came in a handy carrying case with alot pieces. The Price was $29.99 and they seemed to have a good supply of them. Toysrus was sold out in store and online as well.

If you give this to a kid. They will built it. It a no brainer for them. But like any other type product. It pieces all over the place. Bit of warning, if you have pets around. Better count the pieces or they be stick to the ice box.

I have triplet granddaughters - age 4 - and they love this! Add a cookie sheets and it can keep them occupied for quite awhile. Keeping the balls from getting lost is the only problem.
It's stores easily and with the case, keeping all of the little parts together is easy.

My 8 year old daughter loves these! She is able to build more complex shapes and designs. I would not recommend them for someone younger unless they have a lot of patience as it takes quite a bit of time to get the pieces aligned to build something elaborate. The different shaped pieces have made building more interesting for my daughter.
Why is this toy rated with only 3 stars because of...

availability in the stores. The reviews should be only to rate the toy, not the store. I've sat and wasted my time reading reviews because I wanted to see what some people were disappointed about, only to find out the it's not even about the toy. PLEASE!!
Great toy, but one problem...keep away from computers!!!

My son, who was 6 years old at the time, received a small set of these two years ago. They only seemed to hold his interest for a few days, but he is now 8 and in the last few months, he has become very interested in them and is wanting another set so he can build bigger things. My son has not always been the biggest "creator" even though he likes to build (i.e. he likes to build legos and knex, but will only build the models that are pictured in the directions, not something of his own "design") He does seem to be more creative however, with the Magnetix. And he likes to combine them with other things that are metal when he builds, which is pretty cool.
We did have one very big issue with these Magnetix however... they are VERY STRONG magnets and if one of them gets around a computer screen... it's toast! We had one of the older computer screens (not the flat, LCD type) and my son was holding one of the magnetix rods near the screen (about 4-6 inches away). It was really strange, but all of a sudden, it looked like the image on the screen was somehow magnetically drawn out of the screen and toward the magnet. After this brief (1-2 second) occurence.. there was a dark spot permanently left on the computer screen, where no image is visible at all. Probably any computer-savy person would say "duh" about this. But I had no idea that a kid's magnetic toy could ruin a computer screen.. so beware...keep the magnetix away from your computer!! I don't know if this would be true for a television as well? I'm certainly not willing to try!!
