New Updates to product
2008-02-19
There are already many positive reviews out there so I'll focus on some of the issues from the bad ones.
1) These poles supposedly didn't work for dust barriers. They now come with a "magnetic dust foot" that should make hanging plastic sheeting a breeze. Stand the pole up (see below), attach the sheeting to the pole with the magnetic feet while on the ground, then raise the poles up. Pretty easy.
2) These poles supposedly tipped over easily. The kit now comes with "universal feet" that allow the poles to stand up on their own. Tipping shouldn't be a problem.
3) The poles are supposedly too long for cabinets. My poles came marked with a location to cut them at if you want them short enough for cabinets. No need to worry about voiding the warranty.
4) Some people find the poles too heavy. Unless all you want to use them for is plastic sheeting, in my opinion, the heavier they are, the heavier-duty they are, and I'll take heavy duty over light weight any day of the week.
5) The poles supposedly don't fit in the bag. They do fit if you take the feet off, and the feet (including the universal feet and the magnetic dust feet) will all fit in the bag with the poles. I would guess you could probably get a couple more poles in there too. It would be nice if there was a bag for the feet or something so they didn't end up all over the inside of the bag, but just about anything would do for that.
6) The Zipwall system is supposedly better because it comes with the foam rails. Rip a 2x4 down into four 1x2's and attach some cheap weatherstripping available at any home improvement store. You now have your foam rails.
The only things I can see that's better about the Zipwall is that a) it's lighter, which is only better if ALL you're going to use it for is plastic sheeting, and b) the telescoping feature is probably a little faster than the design of the 3rd hand.
I can't see spending over $100 more for the Zipwall when you lose so much functionality.
FastCap 3rd hand

I purchased this product to help me in my business when I have to install kitchen cabinets. It works ok but the retraction device is hard to use with one hand (unlike another less expensive product that I have used) and the worst part is that these 3rd hands are too long to fit under the standard 54" upper cabinet height, I have to cut them down to fit so I can use them. I know that this will void the warrantee, but otherwise I won't be able to use them for what I initially purchased them for. Otherwise, I like the one hand extender function and the quality is as I expected.

Great product, great price. I took it out of the box and immediately used it to put up 350' of crown moulding. The best part is it shows up to work everyday on time, hasn't asked for a raise and didn't complain when I wanted it to work past 5:00.
Excellent tool & product support

I purchased the Fastcap 3rd hand poles to help put up crown molding. The were well worth the money. I could have never done the job without them. One of the rubber pads came off because it was cranked up a lot more than it should have, called customer support and they sent a new one for free with no questions. Support also spoke English (well) and very friendly ...now that is amazing these days.

These are fantastic! I am remodeling the master bathroom and vanity area in our house. As soon as these were delivered, I had them out and in use. They worked perfect for holding up the new sheetrock while I cut the holes for the lights. Next I used them to make a dust barrier when I cut around the doors and electrical outlets. I still haven't put up the crown molding but I will be useing them there as well.
cool tool

I needed this tool and always made my own. Now I got the contractor 4-Pack. It comes with everything you'll need. The only problem I've had is quality. Two of the four polls (pipe in a pipe) stick due to the paint. I'll have to sand them down. I didn't have the time to send them back. I would recommend them to a friend. Don't wait till you need them, order now and check them out.
Helpful, could be better

These have been very helpful, my only real complaint is that the
pins that you push in to make large changes in length (1 foot at a time I think)
are really hard to push, and then it can be tricky to get them to
find the holes that they lock into. So, you almost need a third hand
to use the third hand.
Great tool

I remodel homes for a living. These extension poles have been great, I typically use them to create dust barriers, however they are made with very heavy duty construction and are capable of much more. I'm sure these will be a tool that makes it to every project and gets used a lot!
