Wireless back speakers
2007-09-10
I am living in Norway and bought this product through Amazon and it arrived within a week.
It consists of two boxes, both which require AC 110 V. I set them up with 220/110 power converters and that worked nicely.
The small box, the transmiter, have very thin wires that is to be connected to the loudspeaker output of your amplifier. Theese very thin wires is the weakest point of this product. I would like to exchange them with proper speaker wires, but that is not possible without opening the transmitter.
The receiver has proper loudspeaker terminals, and here I can attach the cables I like.
The product works great. I can hear a faint hissing sound, and the power turns off and on again with a crack if the sound level of the source is to low, but the "wife acceptance" factor outsurpases that. She was very happy to loose the cables for our back speakers.
Great Substitute for Running Wires

This item is a great way to get your rear surround speakers sounding great without running wires from the front of the room. I have hardwood floors and there was no good way to hide the wires. This has performed really well. It is not as good as wires, but it is pretty darn close.
Works like a charm

I set this system up, and put on Saving Private Ryan, specifically the Omaha Beach sequence which is one of the best DVD surround mixes out there, and it performed admirably.
My only beef with the system is that the wires from the transmitter to your receiver are VERY short and not replaceable, so you have to position the transmitter no more than a foot from the source, making it hard to avoid interference from the surrounding machines.
Give me longer wires, and it'll be a 5 star review for the next generation.
No more wires across the living room floor!

Instead of running wires across your room a wireless transmitter sends the signal from your tv / dvd /receiver to the wireless receiver in the back of the room. You simply plug in the wireless receiver in the back of your room, plug it into the AC outlet, and run the speaker wires from the back receiver to you rear speakers.
The good: No more snaking wires under carpets , around coffee tables, along base boards. Very easy to setup and use and good sound. Mine is setup about 20' from the receiver and I haven't had any problems.
The bad: none i have found!
Does what is said it would

Installation was fairly easy. The receiver and transmitter are about 50' apart in my setup and it preforms flawlessly.
Decent for a while, but didn't last

I've owned the Kenwood wireless speaker module for a while now and it worked ok for a while, but its quality has faded over time. I don't know if this is indicative of other units or not.
I've always been able to hear a little noise from the rear speakers if I have my ear close, but when the speakers were placed further away I didn't notice the noise.
Occasionally I would hear a loud pop of static, but it didn't happen often. Recently though the frequency of these pops has become too much and I'm back shopping for a better solution. In the meantime I've had to stop using the rear speakers.
Does What It Says - For A While

So, I'm updating my review - why? Well like the reviewer above after several weeks of operation, the units seem more sensitive to interference, and continually generate statis 'pops' even when supposed to be in standby mode.
My housekeeper was quite startled once or twice and the unit is rapidly failing in the wife acceptance test so I'm also back to looking at more solutions. I wish I could down edit my stars on this,,,,
So set these up last night and tried out watching the Stargate BluRay Stargate (Extended Cut) [Blu-ray] and it does exactly what it says. Use it for my rear surround speakers and it works perfectly.
'front' unit has short (4ft?) hard wired connections to connect to your amp, rear unit an approx. 6ft power cord. You provide the speaker cable.
Units power down to standby when not used, channel 2 (of 4) proved the right one for me and eliminated any background hum and eliminated interference walking between the units etc.
Based so far on a 2 hour trial, they seem excellent for surround sound speaker use. I haven't and wouldn't try them for primary music or sound sources though.
Worked Perfectly

The Kenwood RFU-6100 Wireless Module for Surround Speakers worked perfectly for me in the finished basement, where running wires would have been very difficult.
problem solved!

This product helped me solve a nightmare of a wiring problem. I am very much satisfied with this product. The only negative is that I do hear some pops, but it does not occur often. The positives definitely outweigh that 1 small issue. It works perfectly 99% of the time, very easy to setup, and eliminates the need to run wires across all my walls/ceilings. It probably would have cost me more to buy all of the plastic tubing to hide the wires vs. use this product.
awesome!

I just received this for Christmas and I love it! I wanted an easy way to get rid of my speaker wires running to the back of my room, but didn't have an easy way to hide them. The RFU-6100 took care of that problem. It took me about 5 minutes to hook up this device and have it up and running. I didn't have a single issue with installation which is a BIG plus!
I've tested the sound quality on DVDs and my Xbox 360 and can't tell a difference at all. I expected there to be a small degrade in audio quality, but I could not hear any.
I highly recommend this to anyone looking for wireless surround.
