Help with this please! ( before purchase ) 2007-05-24
How does this hardware plug into your TV? HDMI?

Excellent High Tech Stereo AND Home Theater 2005-12-27
Had this system for around six months now and use it a lot for a CD/TV/radio Dolby stereo surround sound, and of course DVD movies, all of which play with exceptional clarity, range, sound, and bass which shakes the place - you can feel it in your gut. The system is great looking. All components are stylish, sleek, enhances your decor, and the speakers compliment your TV and room. These speakers are the best looking on the market to match your contemporary decor - even better than the later models - and no need to hang on walls, drill holes, buy stands, or attempt to hide wires!

The reviewer stating the disc does not start where you left off is wrong, unless you turn the system off, and all the reviews complaining about the low number of inputs/outputs is not a big deal. If you know how to piggyback inputs/outputs you'll be fine.

You'll be amazed how convenient wireless technology makes your life. The rear speakers can be thirty feet away and it's awesome you never have to worry about leading wires to the back of the room, securing them down, drilling holes, hassles with hiding wires, etc. Sony RF technology is priceless! The Pros outweigh the Cons but here's a summary:

Pros: sound - all surround, power, performace, powerful booming bass, wireless technology, numerous settings and effects, high tech, stylish, sleek, five disk changer.

Cons: a HUGE CON is no bass and treble controls!!! Why/How could a company like SoNy not include that??? Someone please tell me! The slow switching, loading, and recognition of CD/DVDs (almost a minute) can be aggravating at times.

While watching movies the rear speakers do an outstanding and subtle job in delivering the movie. If you live in an apartment or condo like me, you might not be afforded the full benefits of the system; reason being - it can even shake the neigbours' place so you must turn it down!

There's a learning curve to understand and set all the configuration and functionality to make it precise for your space. Highly recommend carefully reading the manual and learning the settings. As mentioned, the only drawbacks are 1) no bass/treble controls - although you CAN raise and lower the level of each speaker separately and easily, and 2) the slow CD/DVD switching time.

Highly rated and got a good price at the time so decided to buy it and so far happy. The sound - all surround, clarity, performace, power, booming bass, numerous settings, style, and sleekness, makes this a great home theater AND stereo system.

But, still have a bit of Bose envy... Then again Bose comes priced much higher, does not have wireless, and usually only a one disc changer whereas Sony has five. If you buy this system it will always be worth $1000 coz it's discontinued and the newer models are $300 more and don't look as good. A comparable Bose that's not wireless is around $3000.

Bottom line - one of the best sounding AND looking WIRELESS systems on the market.

What you expect from Sony! 2005-08-22
I have had this system for 2 weeks. There are pros and cons and much to my surpize Sony has already corrected what this system lacks. The sound is excellent! The best sound I have heard from any surround sound system. You can hear every sound on the disc....its better then my BOSE and cost less. The cons...it lacks the picture quality that other sony DVD players have. The pixel rate is 480 not 1080i..even with the progressive scan on it losses some of the quality of the picture. You can only load one disc at a time and last most dvd players will start the disc where you last cut it off, not this one. You have to reset the disc features for sound. All in all I am pleased that I finally went with the DREAM!

lacking inputs 2005-04-18
As the other review states, there are precious few (2 analog, 1 digital and 0, yes, 0 video) inputs for ths unit - my $200 Koss C220 can handle more.

Sound is good, as you might expect from Sony. The styling is strangely reminiscent of Star Trek back in the days of Captain Kirk - right above the power button is a backlit "SONY" something about the player just yells '70s. Disc selection buttons are on the top lip of the unit which means you can't stack anything up there.

What else...takes an age to load - eject, actually worried that I will damage discs by pushing them into the load slot. The speakers are something like 4 foot tall- figure that into your plans.

The whole IR wireless speaker deal is ok, so long as you don't have people walking through the path of the beam. That said, i was able to pop them out on the deck and listen to cd's.

OH! and the remote is pretty bad. I have a Sony Wega TV, and i was hoping to be able to program the remote to operate both units...but the TV remote will not communicate with the DAV-FR10W and the remote for that will not communicate with the TV properly either.

Great sound, poor connectivity 2005-03-19
No unsightly/unsafe wire running across your room from the system at the front to the surround speakers at the back! And the sound is very good, including the surround speakers - at least for a small room. DVD video quality seems good (progressive output not tested). And, it looks very sharp with thin profile and brushed finish.

Cons: very limited AV inputs/outputs. Only one digital audio input. No video inputs, so you must use your TV or another switcher for this. System height is small, which is nice, but DVD changer takes a long time to switch discs. System depth is greater than most AV components, so it may not fit well in your rack/entertainment center. Sound format is displayed for a source (e.g., "Dolby Digital") but not details about channel content (i.e., whether it's DD5.1 or DD2.0).
