five years later, I still think of it as the best PDA available! 2008-01-08
When I bought it five years ago (or something like that), I thought it was the best PDA then... now, I can say it again.

It has one of the best screens I've ever seen, with VGA resolution.

It has bluetooth and Wi-fi. My only complain here is that from time to time, the Bluetooth refuses to turn on due to a "low memory" warning, that you can get rid of it by sof-reseting the device (or nor overhelming the main memory with too many small applications!).

With SD and CF, it has all the possibilities available!

And the magnesium case is great!! at least someone took a breath and actually tought, and found out that puting a plastic case on a PDA worth $600, intended for professional use, wasn't such a great idea (most of the new ones, worth that still have plastic cases!).

I have nothing but good words for it!!

This unit is great. Have had it for over a year now and it is flawless in operation. Hope they keep making it or a better updated version as time goes on. Upgraded to Windows Mob. 5 and it work fine as well. TON of memory and takes CF and SD cards. I have 1 gig ultrs in it now. Holds a TON of pictures and maps for pocketstreets, which I use often. I put a GPS card in it and and I have Navigation ability with Pocket-Streets... and yes holds and plays video and music with mob. MSplayer 10

What I like about my hx4705 2006-10-07
This is my fourth Windows PDA, first 3 were from Compaq.
Let me add some beneficial features which have not been mentioned:
a. It is one of two Hp iPaqs which will run Windows mobile 5.0. I found that Windows Mobile 5.0 makes wireless internet access easier and faster.
b. Be sure to use Active Sync v 4.2. Syncing is very quick over USB 2.0.
c. This device runs .Net compact framework 2.0. I build apps for it using Visual Studio 2003 & 2005.
d. I use the onboard excel app constantly and move spreadsheets between it and my PC. Running Excel natively is a huge feature for me.
e. Windows mobile 5.0 includes a media player which sounds better than the previous one. This PDA is a great digital media player.
f. I read PDF manuals using a pcoket Acrobat reader. The beautiful screen is very useful for this.
g. Pocket Streets & downloadable maps. Buy Microsoft Streets & trips and get this for free. Map display is more vivid and colorful with this release.
Summary:
This device has enormous potential which it should, given its high price.

Great spec - expensive, unreliable and no longer made 2006-08-14
I've had one for 9 months and it's a great PDA, albeit a bit power hungry for the battery shipped. Love the screen.

But it's fragile, and when mine broke HP claimed I'd opened the case voiding the warranty (i hadn't ?!?), and wanted 270 bucks.

I don't know anyone who still has one. Shame, it was a great PDA. I've heard they're discontinued now. But you can't spend this kind of money for something that won't even make it a year.

Potential not realized 2006-06-07
I have had my iPAQ for almost a year and bought it because of positive reviews and the high quality of its screen. I was just told by an "HP repair status specialist" that the motherboard must be replaced and there is no power to the motherboard. I only ever used it to read e-books, run a program called ePocrates - a medication database, play solitaire, and keep up with addresses and phone numbers. I could never get the wireless capability to work. It was reliable for my limited use for about six months and then began it's slow decline. I have updated it, kept "patches" current, and spent about 5 hours of my time with various online and telephone support personnel. I really miss my old Clie. My Dell Axim is also better than the HP.

HP 4705 PDA works with www.instantstream.com 2006-01-22
I like making video phone calls with my new HP 4705 PDA. I when to www.instantstream.com and setup an account, the guys at instantstream call me up and installed streamphone on my PDA and sent me a video cam. In about 3 minutes after getting my web cam i made my first wireless video call to my friends and wow, I have made many many more video calls and video conference meeting while sitting in my local Starbucks on my T-mobile hotspot account. Also, it worked with my home linksys wireless account.

Would not buy this product! 2005-12-30
Bought this because of big screen and review's. The sync port on this unit is Very weak and fragile! We bought a bunch of these for work and have had problems with charging and sync operation. Had to send one in for repair and HP said it was not covered and would cost $299.00 Wow unit is 2 months old! Talked with our Tech Support and was told that this was not uncommon! We just bought Dells instead and love them!

Great product, just couldnt sync email 2005-11-23
Love the product but unfortunately my company uses lotus notes which this product does not support, so i could sync everything but my email so had to return. Which really stinks cause I love the device but if i cant get my email, then its not worth it.

HP iPAQ HX4705 Pocket PC REVIEW 2005-10-20
My experience has been great.
It is well built, easy to use, does everything you need for home or office.
It has become a tool that I am very dependant on.
I selected the HP HX4705 after much review and speaking with current owners of
PDA's. The Windows OS guarantied I knew how to use it before I ever turned it on.
For me, it has paid for itself by being able to keep up to the minute notes on a project
and then just dock it to my laptop, sync and send.
