Good FM Reception on Car and House Radios
2008-07-05
The Griffin iTrip Mini FM Transmitter for Apple iPod 4 GB mini M9434LL/A (Green) works well on both my car and house radios. Of course, this depends on the quality of your radio and location to transmit the signal. Reception is excellent throughout my house and yard, especially if you have a sensitive radio (mine is a Kaito KA1102 - Worldband radio.). FM reception in the car depends on making certain you are driving in an unobstructed area (this is the case even with public FM stations).
CONS:
* The greatest fault I find with this unit is that it drains the iPod battery within about 3 hours of air play.
* It cost me a bomb (over $40) when I first purchased it, but I see now a used one is substantially less and won't set you back.
PROS:
* What I like about the unit is that it attaches conveniently to the iPod and looks like an integral part of the iPod.
* It covers the full FM band, although adjusting it while driving is impractical.
Otherwise, the Griffin iTrip Mini FM Transmitter is a nice addition to those who own an iPod mini.
A handy device

Do not know how I survived with out this device - works on any fm radio - house, car, boat........
Very good thing to have.
Good...at first

I bought this product when it first came out and it worked but never had a clear sound. There was always static on every available station and always had to be touching it. Currently, I have not used it in months because it won't pick up ANY station at all. Very disappointed. I am in the process of purchasing a different product.
Poor Sound Quality
2007-10-03
I was really excited when I heard about this product, but once I got it the excitement faded. The sound quality is poor. At times all I can hear is a lot of static and I have to move the IPod around in order to get better reception.
Works with no problem.

The quality of material is pretty good and is in sync with the shape of the ipod. The only problem with the fm transmitters are that the quality of the songs goes down pretty bad. You are better off using a aux wire which I did. I still use the fm transmitter to play it over my music system.
If you decide to buy this, please set the frequency to something other than the default one as every person has it set to 87.9. Or else half the time you might end up listening to somebody else's music rather than yours!
It was nice while it lasted

Great Product!

My daughter uses her transmitter any time we travel for long periods of time! Reception is great most of the time, but we sometimes get interference from other transmitters in the area. Overall, a great buy and I highly recommend it!
Terrific!

I owned one of these for 3 years. Frequent use and abuse finally led to it's demise and the need for a new one. The reception works great on my car radio and Bose stereo. It takes a few tries with different stations but once you find the right radio wave, the sound is good. Easy to use too.
Great for Road Trips

The iTrip works really well for it's purpose and price range. This is an inexpensive way to listen to your iPod on trips. It isn't perfect...I've noticed some bleed through from other stations occasionally and it also sometimes gets staticky if I am right next to a semi on the highway (interference from CB or radar detectors, maybe?), but it works great most of the time.
I've found that the sound quality of the songs also matters more when you use this than when you use the headphones. If you rip most of your music from high-quality CDs or download it from iTunes, it will sound great in your car. Lower sound quality songs (lower bitrate) will sound bad (muffled or staticky), which may explain some of the bad reviews this product has gotten. Any little issue with your song quality will be magnified many times with this product. Adjusting the volume in your car and on your iPod can sometimes help with this. I lower the iPod volume a bit for a lower-quality song and turn up my car radio a little more. Always stay under 75% of your iPod volume, as per the directions.
Additionally, I'd like to recommend a few other products if you use this to travel a lot. Consider a car cradle for your iPod (some can also hold cell phones when you aren't using your iPod) and charge it while you travel, to avoid the battery drain. I use the "Igo Auto Power Universal Car Charger", which plugs into the cig lighter and has removeabe tips (so I can charge my cell phone too!).

Not thrilled with the interactivity, of the product, when changing FM frequencies. The ipod has to be extremely close to the radio for clear reception.
