Campbell/Hausfeld Sprayer 2007-04-02
I really like the the sprayer. However, you really have to practice to get used to the spray pattern that is established. It's hard to see the finished product unless you get the light just right. There are darker streaks at the middle of the spray than at the outskirts of the pass. I used semi-gloss Sherwin-Williams paint and in most cases it covers beautifullly. I also diluted the paint with a water based conditioner and this seemed to help allow the paint to spread without drying to rapidly. The gun is really easy to clean and the most difficult thing is to make sure the paint is the right consistency for spraying.

a good hobby gun 2007-01-31
i bought this gun to refinish some bathtubs. after the purchase, i ordered epoxies and various other chemicals from midwest chemicals to get the job done. they sort of slammed the gun, saying that it was a good hobby gun and is okay for a 2 stage sprayer. i was told a 3 stage sprayer will atomize the paint and give a total pro finish, whereas the 2 stage sprayer will tend to throw small globs of paint and leave a slight texture. bummer. i never used the gun.

i now own the hv3500. it always seems i get burned when trying to save money on tools. might as well buy the right one the first time.
i'll review the 3500 after these tubs get done.

Acceptable performance with practice 2007-01-04
It takes practice to achieve great results to this system. The manual is very poor. I would not consider purchasing a cheaper system.

I'm spraying latex which needs to be thinned with water to look like chocolate milk. I also add Flotrol to help level out the finish. Don't expect to be spraying like an expert on your first try. However, after my third or fourth attempt I was happy. I'm assuming the finish will only improve as I get familiar with thinning paint and using the system.

The finish looks great but the application of paint seems to take forever. It does beat using brushes and/or rollers. There is hardly any overspray. I'm using it to spray custom cabinets/tables, etc.

...no one said finishing would be easy...this just makes it a little easier...

does nothing well 2006-08-30
Don't waste your money on this. Put a little more with it and but a real spray system. The really weak part is the gun. I am on my second and have yet to get anything other than Orange peel. I have reconciled the systems shortcomings and now only use it to spray stain. CH has sent me replacement units but will not consider any product exchange. They also know how weak the system is...Oh by the way, I have the 3300, which is supposed to be superior to the above model.

HVLP Paint Sprayer 2006-08-10
I like the unit but it does take some getting used to. If I had one comment to make,I would say that the company should probably provide a little more instruction or insight in using the tool.

Hold out for a better HVLP 2008-06-15
I've had this unit for a couple of years now...and in short it's priced fairly. Not too great but not too bad. It got me started with HVLP. It just does not have enough power for shooting any thick (even kinda thick) finish. If you just want to shoot waterborne poly it works fine.

I wanted to shoot paint and oil based poly. For paint, forget it. Even with the heavy needle it just shoots splatter. For oil based poly it can't shoot a smooth even finish. With the heavy needle in it you get orange peel.

It was a good intro machine for me, but I ended up going for the top end
Accuspray on the second go round. Triple the price but you get professional results (why waste your time spraying if you get sub-par results?) and 3M's PPS which makes clean up a breeze. You know it's hard to justify the price for an expensive unit but think how many hours you have into your project. Why risk an average finish on it.

Great product 2008-05-23
Bought this to apply penetrating oil on a redwood fence/deck/trellis. Worked great. Only took a couple hours. Used to take all weekend to roll or brush then wipe off. Longest time was spent prepping with ground cloth etc.

By using a light spray, did not need to wipe off, and it was very clean application with almost no overspray.

I would HIGHLY recommended a respirator and tight fitting goggles. I used a dust mask and became overcome by the fumes. I guess because the material is so atomized it becomes vaporized very quickly.

Kind of loud, but not any worse than any spray apparatus. Also the manual was contradictory about nozzles types (diagram showed one thing, text another).

Great System - Great price 2008-04-16
I am a professional finish carpenter and I do painting on the side (cabinet work, trim, etc). I have used a variety of HVLP sprayers and this unit, does just fine with all types of finishes when used properly. I have all the needle/nozzle sets (all purpose, thin and thick material) and I have no complaints when spraying various finishes (stains, latex, water/oil based clear-coats). The trick is knowing which tip to use and how to thin the material properly. When done right, this unit certainly gets the job done.

Good Paint Sprayer/Time Saver 2008-03-19
This paint sprayer worked well for painting trim and doors. It saved a lot of time and the finish is much better than being brushed on.

The only issues I had were finding the right viscosity to use in the paint. It definitely sprays better with a thinner paint. The tip also bacame plugged a couple times with the thicker paints but that is probably common to every sprayer.

I would recommend this product.

Product Good, Customer Service Lousy 2007-05-09
I've only used the HV2500 sprayer a couple of times and it worked fine, although I wish the gun was made of metal instead of plastic. My real issue is with Campbell Hausfeld's customer service. The QD (quick disconnect) was missing from my sprayer. Since I needed one immediately, I drove 20 miles to their nearest dealer and shelled out $13.62 from my own pocket for one. Even though my sprayer was now complete, I decided to test CH's customer service - I called their customer service line and explained that my QD was missing and that I needed one ASAP. That was at least 4 weeks ago and I still have no QD (from them). I have followed up with several emails directly to the customer service rep I spoke to and have gotten no response. Because of the lousy customer service, I can't recommend their products.
