Prints fine--uses unk quickly
2006-07-08
This is my second ink printer for the current HP computer I own and it prints much quicker than the last printer. However, changing the ink every three months is a little often, in my opinion.
What a good little printer!

I bought it for $70 and it's never given me any trouble and the photo quality (especially) is surprisingly good. This is a great value in printers.

GREAT WORKHORSE OF A PRINTER, LOW LOW PRICE!

Now, I admit there are definitely printers with more bells and whistles. Sure I would have liked to get one with the scanner/copier/fax, but I was NOT in a position to spend $100.
For less than $40, this printer has not given me ANY trouble. I have had NO paper jams. I have had NO "freezing up" or non-responsiveness. I have had NO smears. I use it for both normal printing, and for photo printing.
If you want to print 100 photos, I would recommend going to your local drug store. But to do a few, this printer does the job. For example on Mother's Day, I gave my mother and my sister photo montage picture frames (you know, they have all the different shaped holes in them), I printed my own photos and put them together. The printer worked just as fast as I did, I could pick up one photo from the printer, get it taped into the frame, and go pick up another one. I can print 4 X 6 photos, I can print 8 X 10 photos, I can print all sizes in-between.
Listen to this! I am STILL ON THE PARTIALLY FILLED INK CARTRIDGES THAT CAME WITH MY PRINTER OVER 6 MONTHS AGO! Even though I use this printer every day! I print photos, emails, recipes, payment receipts for bills, word searches for my niece, coloring pages for my nephew, postage and packing slips and address labels for my eBay business, everything you can think of - I print it.
I usually use the default "Quick-Set" for printing, but you can design your own if you need to. When I am printing things for myself I use the "fast/economical" setting. It sure is economical - as I said, I have yet to go through the first ink freebies I received. I use the "general/everyday" setting for things I need to look nice. I use the "borderless photo" or "photo with border" settings depending on what I am doing. Or of course, I can manually design my own Quick-Set to use over and over, or I can just change settings on a print by print basis.
I don't know what more I could ask of a printer for this price. If you don't need to scan/copy/fax, I would recommend this compact and eye-pleasing workhorse for anyone who doesn't want to, or cannot afford to, pay more than $40
Brand new and its BROKEN!!!

I'm mad. I bought this one to replace my old one. This one and the other one are doing the samething. I had a chat with an HP service helper and they determined that it was broke. Their customer service is top notch thought! They are sending me a new one for free and apearently I get to keep the ink cartidges for free because of my troubles.
JAMS CONSTANTLY DURING PRINTING
2008-04-24
I purchased this printer about a year ago, and have been wanting to write a review to warn people for most of the time I've had it. I am a stay-at-home Mom, and only use this printer for printing incidentals, like coupons or recipes (once or twice a week). I did spend a couple of days reading reviews for home printers, and decided on this one, but am still very disappointed in it, especially for a HP product. For the first couple of months, it worked fine, but ever since, it the paper jams approx. 2 out of every 3 prints. This printer is terrible, and as soon as I get the time to shop (again), I'm going to replace it.
HP 3845 "Paper Jam Master"

I've had this printer for about 2 years. It's fine unless you're printing on photo paper.
I've been sitting here all morning trying to print several pages of photo paper and 9 out of every 10 pages that I try to print on, gets jammed.
Then, you've gotta unplug the power to clear the print job from the queue.
And after that, you've gotta remove the plastic piece in the BACK of the printer, to remove the paper.
It's driving me CRAZY and if I owned a sledgehammer, I'd turn this printer into dust!
Don't buy it, get something that at LEAST has the jammed paper remover on the front.
Was Great While it Worked

I've been using this printer for about a year and a half. I didn't use it often, but it was handy when I did. HOWEVER after not using it for a month I tried using it this weekend and the paper feed motor had died.
Not so good for an office

I was forced to buy this for my desk at work because it is cheap, but as I always say, you get what you pay for. It prints out pictures, sheets of labels, and normal stuff ok but forget envelopes and single labels.
Great for MOST printing needs

For letters, brochures, presentations, etc., this is a great printer; for pictures it is absolutely terrific. **NO matter HOW you install this, you WILL get error messages for OLEAUT32.DLL and KERNEL32.DLL: go to the HP main site and look up troubleshooting for installation on this product. If you follow their instructions, your problem is solved** VERY quiet operation. Large ink tanks - larger than many printers out there, even the other HP printers. THE BIG 'CON'?: if you use ANY Avery template, i.e. for business cards, address labels, et al, it will NOT align properly no matter how many times you try and configure its settings, but, again, this is covered on the HP website as well. Overall, worth the price, earns the 4stars - just be prepared to "tweak" it. (Note: when contacting the Avery folks about alignment problems with using their templates they IMMEDIATELY asked me if I was using an HP printer....so this is a common issue)
