Great Sound - Awkward Cord.
2008-07-01
I am listening to these right now - terrific sound quality! Great bass (for a change) balanced with good highs and midrange sound. The only caveat I have about them is that the cord has a built in spiral extension that about 18 inches from the left can. It is heavy enough that it is pulling my head to the side! While the extension is nice to have, I am not sure it is well placed or that useful. I am only four feet from the stereo system, so for me it is a hindrance. A standard 5 or 8 foot cord would have been perfect.
I took off one star because i am not sure I can see a situation where this cord is not a hindrance - You would almost have to have a separate support for it! The sound quality is so good that a solution is warranted.
These are high quality cans used in the radio and tv industry

Broadcast studios look to use not only great sounding headphones but durable headphones.
If you ever watch Howard [Stern] TV you will see that these are the ones Artie Lang uses, and though I haven't noticed, I imagine they are the same as what Howard and Robin are using as well.
I work at Fox and these are what we used there when editing sound.
So the point is, these are among the best you can get.
I've had mine for about 10 years. I don't use them every day. The ear cushion covers have fallen off and I need to replace them, but they're still totally usable and still sound great, it's more of an aesthetic thing.
These might not be what you want if you are into hip-hop or metal, these are better for classical, jazz, classic rock, etc. imho.
On top of the headphones it says "Studio Monitor" and that is no b.s., that is what these are used for, especially radio studios. I imagine that many professional radio dj's use these both for the sound and the comfort.
You cannot go wrong with these if you are looking for ear-enclosing can style headphones. So I will add my 5 star review to the rest.
p.s. The one drawback is that they can be hot in the summer, but ALL can style headphones share that problem.
Clear, clean well-balanced sound

My brother recommended this product. He's an on-air radio personality in LA and uses them constantly. He says they hold up very well in day to day studio abuse and keep on delivering quality sound. These are my second pair of Sonys, but a slight upgrade. I mix a lot of original music via headsets and require something that delivers flat frequency response. The MDR-7506s are lightweight, built well and deliver well balanced, uncolored sound. I've also noticed I don't have to crank up my output source as with other phones.
This product delivers what Sony claims and when these wear out, I will replace them with the same model.
Fantastic Headphones

I have been using Sennheiser HD280 pro's for a couple years. They are mainly used in my studio, plugged into my keyboard. I wanted a pair of phones to use with my portable dvd player. Holy smokes, what a difference between the two. The HD280's seem "mellow" compared to the MDR-7506. The bass is really deep and the high end is sweeter with the Sony's. Great head set for the bucks. I'd buy another in a heartbeat!
Awesome!

I've been using these for about 2 months now, and they are phenominal headphones. Just the right amount of noise cancelling, comfort and great sound. I've tried out the MDR-NC60's and they can't even compare to the 7506. I love the coil cord also! I would recommend anyone who is serious about having a great set of monitor, over the ear headphones. You definitely get your money's worth.

After thorough research for the past few months, I was about to buy the MDR V-6. But after closer inspection, and reading NUMEROUS reviews, I settled on the MDR V-7506. I have to say, this is one of the BEST headphone and it is incredibly cheap for something of this caliber. Contrary to what others claim about the "flat" sound, that is what music is suppose to sound like when recording. If you honestly want to add more bass, then just change your equalizer settings. But overall, these headphones have allowed me to enjoy the likes of Mahler, Dvorak, and even Coltrane. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? BUY THE HEADPHONES!
Damn near a perfect product

Sound is awsome, even the low end is decent. only problem i have is after a couple hours they reall start to hurt my ears, they're just too small. bu the sound and manufacuring quality is definatly worth it.

I've been a Koss headphone owner for the last two-and-a-half decades. I remember trying some mid-to-upper end Sony headphones about 12 years ago and I went with a set of Koss TNT-66, which I believed at the time were the best overall headphones for the $75-100 range. Since then, I've tested a number of headphones (Panasonic, Pioneer, Bose, Sennheiser, and even some buds), but I always came back to my Koss for clarity, bass-mid-highs reproduction, and sensitivity (how loud they play).
Only recently, the magnets on the Koss headphones seemed to be getting weaker, and I noticed less punch in the bass. I started researching various headphone reviews in the $75-150 price range. To make a long story short, the Sony MDR-7506 had satisfaction ratings that blew anything in the price range.
After using the Sony's for about a week, I have to agree with the majority of the reviewers. These headphones are extremely accurate in reproduction of bass, mids and highs. Bass is solid and very low, without sounding boomy. Mids and highs have a remarkable 3D presence, even better than the Koss. Sensitivity is good, so even portable CD players or IPods can power the headphones, although these puppies are so good that I really recommend them for use with a good home audio or home theater system. The reproduction is so faithful that the limitations of compressed music (mp3's, etc.) are apparent.
Anyway, my recommendation is that these headphones are better than anything in the under $150 range (and sound better that a Bose set for $159). They may sound better than many headphones in the under $250 range.
But don't try to save money by buying a cheaper set of headphones. I've been testing many of the $25-50 headphones for years - and don't waste your time. The Sony MDR-7506 is a real set for professionals - and discerning home audio enthusiasts.
