Editorial Review

The Fuse folds down to a tight, easy-to-transport 4 inches.
Leatherman's Fuse Extra-Large Multitool

The Leatherman Fuse multitool packs 12 tools into a lean, 4-inch frame. The all-locking blades include an extra-long knife blade and three extended screwdrivers that help you reach into tight spaces, and the Zytel handle grips give you a firm and comfortable hold every time. The Fuse incorporates Leatherman's new jaw design with stronger pliers and longer wire cutters, plus a wood/metal file, scissors and bottle/can opener to round out the portable collection. And now, the Fuse features an all-blades locking system that is 50-percent stronger than Leatherman’s original locks. With a slim chassis and an assortment of the most-needed tools, Fuse puts portability at the forefront of your need to be prepared

Key User Features:

The Fuse's interior features are supremely easy to access -- just swing open the handles and rotate the blades out using the convenient nail nicks. The scissors open the same way, with a swift rotation and a nail nick; and when the scissors are fully extended, they lock into place. All of the tools available in the Fuse are made from 100-percent stainless steel, engineered to the optimum grade hardness for each individual tool.

The Fuse features a system of all-locking blades. To release the interior blades, just press the grooved portion of the push-button lock and carefully rotate the blade back inside the tool. These blades are straight, and they may be sharpened by using standard sharpening methods, for easy maintenance.

The Fuse has a slim chassis and an assortment of the most-needed tools for real versatility and portability.

Expand your Fuse's capabilities with genuine Leatherman accessories like this removable bit driver (sold separately)

Multitool Capabilities:

Optional Accessories (not included)

To expand your Fuse's capacity, accessorize it with genuine Leatherman add-ons. The removable bit driver adds versatility to your Fuse with 10 screw bit tips, and the Universal Tool Adapter is a standard 1/4-inch hex drive that locks in three positions.

The Leatherman Tool Group and its History of Quality

In 1975, Leatherman Tool Group founder Tim Leatherman was inspired by leaky pipes and a cranky car on a budget trip to Europe -- and thus the idea for his first pocket survival tool was conceived. Since then, Leatherman has become an internationally recognized company with hundreds of employees and a wide variety of durable, versatile, stylish products. Created with bold designs and truly rugged construction, Leatherman products are a perfect addition for tool kits, emergency sets, and glove compartments everywhere.

Good multi-tool 2007-08-17
I was pleasantly and unpleasantly surprised after receiving my own Fuse. First off, its knife is VERY nice - I was expecting a puny little half inch blade that couldn't cut a piece of paper. Instead I found a large, sharp knife that is amazing for whittling. My main knife (Not part of a multi-tool), is serrated near the base so it is not so great for whittling. But the knife on the Fuse is great. It cuts very nicely, and has a nice locking mechanism. Also the Phillips screwdriver is quite nice. It gets quite narrow at the end yet is still wide at the base. This means that it can get those tiny screws on your electronics and still take care of the heavy duty ones. The scissors are also good, but could be a bit larger. The pliers are also decent. However, I do not like the folding mechanism of the tool. Maybe it just needs lubrication, but it seems to be sticky. When working with pliers I don't want to be pulling the other direction to open them. Also I would be nice if the pliers could be locked in position. Then you could use them to not only grasp things but to enlarge holes by opening them forcefully. In this tool if you try that it just folds on itself so you can hide the pliers. Also I didn't like the plastic trim. It feels cheap in your hands, even though it may look cool in the picture. It would be nice to have something that feels AND looks good, given I paid 40$.

Overall though, its a nice little tool, but if you really are in need of technical tools on a day to day basis try upgrading to something a little nicer (and more expensive).

Great Multi-Tool 2007-07-30
I bought this for my son and he just loves it. He uses it every day and finds it very helpful. He said the scissors are really sharp too.

My friends call me Papa 2007-05-12
because I am their handyman. Even their mothers ask me to fix stuff. I don't use it everywhere, all the time, but I always have it. For any little job it's always by my side. I don't even have to think about having the right tool for the job. You can MacGyver almost anything with the fuse. It's so strong and secure. I never worry about using it like I have some other sketchy tools.

One thing, sounds so strange, but, I wish it had a clip on sheath instead of one you thread through your belt. I'm sure I could find one somewhere. It's either threaded through your belt(potentially in the way) or deep in your pocket(ten minute retrieval time).

I'm a huge fan, good value too. Buy one.

Great for camping 2007-02-19
Got this Leatherman for Christmas and used it about a dozen times to assemble toys and cut things out of their packaging; it was super handy to have around. But it really started to shine on a recent backpacking trip by serving as a pot holder (pliers), striker for a "metal match" (screwdriver) and camp knife (knife).

The only criticism I have is that if you put it into its sheath with the locking mechanism at the top, sometimes it catches on the sides of the sheath and prevents the sheath from closing; wiggling the tool a bit reseats it, though, and allows me to secure the sheath.

Leatherman Fuse 2007-01-10
Great improvement over the 1982 original which in itself was a good tool.

Oooo! Ahh! 2008-04-24
A neighbor's son is a US Marine and requested a Leatherman for his upcoming second tour in Iraq. He stipulated it should be inexpensive as well. I ordered two Fuses, one for him and one for me, on the reccommendation of a previous review by a US Army sargeant.

I can understand why these tools are so beloved. I've only had this little device for a few days but I REALLY like it. It folds to a compact size, is reasonably durable, and has a huge number of tools contained within its frame. Its essentially a tool box on my belt. It has a place with my wallet, eye glasses, and keys.

#1 upside: I have large hands and the handle is just right for me. The grips are perfect as well, non slip without being sticky. Definitely engineered in America for Americans.

#1 downside: Sometimes you need to manuever around the wire cutters in the jaws of the pliers to grip a bolt. To me, it was a bit tricky at first, but that should be the worst thing about this fantastic little device.

Great multi-tool! I'd redesign a couple things though 2008-03-20
I'm writing this in Iraq, where the Leatherman Fuse may not have saved my life, but it has saved me tons of time and frustration. Not everyone can lug around a tool box, and trying to get specific tools over here is a pain (or a rip off). I purchased my Fuse at a surplus shop before deploying and paid considerably more... but it did come with the nylon sheath which I prefer to the leather one.

The screw drivers helped me fix my bike, the stamped in ruler helps me measure 550 cord and the scissors help me cut it. I keep it on my belt, and on the rare occasions I get a care package, it helps me open it. :-)

Design thoughts: It's small and lightweight-just the bare-bones. If I was to redesign it, I'd have put a hole through the joint and gotten rid of the lanyard ring (who hangs a leatherman on a lanyard anyway?) to free up space for a saw or something else (there is already a bit of a gap there). It would have also been nice if one of the screwdrivers had a file on it, adding an extra feature without taking up more space.

Great Leatherman 2008-01-23
I work with weapons in the army, and so far this is a great letherman for small parts, it can take a lot of damage but not as much as a gerber, but i still like my leatherman because its smaller and it has what i need to do my job, for example it has a longer flat head, the gerber's is to short, over all its worth buying.

Great Tool 2008-01-02
I carry this Leatherman at work and it does everything I ask of it. Each tool works as it should and the knives are sharp. All around great tool.

Brilliant for the Minimalist 2007-10-19
If you primarily don't do anything past basic repair work at home or at work, the Fuse has you pretty much covered. It comes with the basics such as knife, scissors, ruler (metric and English) and pliers. I'd recommend this if all you want is a Leatherman that's useful for light work and basic things for around the house. However, I'd recommend something else if you do construction or repair on a daily basis or want something that can do a lot more. Essentially, I consider the Fuse to be an "urban tool".
