Replacement for the original
2007-09-28
The nylon sheath that originally came with my Charge STi finally wore through the bottom (after about 18 months). I ordered the leather version to see if it would last longer in daily abuse. It is better looking than the fabric version. It fits very snugly now, which is what I expect from a new leather item. It has been slowly loosening up. I don't think I would store spare bits in it until it streches a bit more. I think they would be tough to extract. The sides of the sheath are an elastic fabric and shouldn't see too much wear..
Great belt sheath for your leatherman knife; it expands.

It works with the Leatherman Wave knife, too.
Leather sheath is durable and attractive.

I upgraded from the nylon to the leather sheath because I wanted the durability of leather and the beefy metal snap. I was concerned to find that the side panels are elastic material, not leather, just like the nylon case. I fear that the long term durability of the elastic will not be as good as leather. I've used this case for almost 3 years, however, without incident and have to admit that the elastic side panels make the tool much easier to remove and replace from that case than would be the case if it were solid leather all around so in the end I must say "so far so good". Like the nylon case the leather one holds a single tray of bits and the tool. The hole at the bottom allows you to place the tool in the case when the pliers are opened - a nice feature.
Cover the Metal Name Plate
2008-06-13
I have used this leather case since December '05 with my leatherman and the only complaint that I have is the name plate is made of a soft metal that leave marks on walls. I wear this case on my belt on my right side (being right handed) and I was always brushing up against walls and leaving marks to show where I had been. I covered it with a wrap around piece of black electrical tape and haven't had any more problems.
Leatherman Sheath

This leather sheath will last two year of heavy usage.
My husband uses his everyday, and works at the plant. Opening and closing it often caused it to stretch and wear off the leather. This is why we bought a replacement. For the price it is way worth it. The only problem is the metal applique that scratched, or scuffs white surfaces. If used on our boat, we usually put some tape over it.

Very strong and useful sheath for the Leatherman Charge. It has become an indespensible part of my work outfit.
Durable

I got this for a friend who goes through the fabric cases at a rate of about 1 per month. I got him this leather one and now it is lasting a long time.
Upgrade over the nylon
2007-12-21
I've had the leather sheath for about a month and I am very happy with my purchase. My old sheath was the nylon one. Although it served me well for about one year, Its main disadvantage is the velcro closure wears out. The only advantages of the nylon is it's slightly less bulky, and there is no break in period. The leather sheath takes a little breaking in and getting used to but otherwise works perfectly. Gotta love the snap! My only complaint to Leatherman is I would like to see a brown leather sheath.
Hope this helps, Derek
