Fun video, but not enough explanations, and not really cardio.

Overall, I enjoyed this video. However, it was a little disconcerting to start into this video right away and just watch her doing a hula routine for 5 minutes with no explanations. I was just standing there in front of the TV wondering what I should be doing! Also, her explanations of the hula moves later on in the video went too fast, so I was having a hard time catching up. Spending a little more time explaining the more complex moves would have been very helpful. Maybe after doing the video another 3 or 4 times, I might feel more comfortable doing the moves more smoothly. Also, I realize this video is for exercise, but hula is very much about telling a story, and arm movements are key. Well, she does the arm movements but doesn't really refer to them during the video, or even what you're supposed to do. I wish she would explain what the movements mean, so we could appreciate the movements that we're doing more. Finally, the title of this DVD is Cardio Hula. Well, I did break a sweat toward the end of the video, but never really got the cardio going. I would more likely call this Toning Hula, but calling this Cardio is a little misleading. There's not enough movement to really be a cardio workout. Overall, though, I did enjoy exercising with this video and will use it again to learn some hula movements.
A Lot of Fun!

This DVD is a great workout! I enjoyed the hula moves and really felt them in my abs and legs the next day. The DVD is also fun to watch because the background behind the instructor is so beautiful! I would highly recommend this DVD for anyone who wanted to try hula and get a great workout!
Not for Beginners!

I bought this because it had so many good reviews but this DVD is strange. The warmup starts abruptly. She doesn't indicate that we are doing a warm up, she just starts dancing. She tells you to do a plie, but if you aren't a dancer, what the hell is a plie? She expects that you already know how to do that move and doesn't instruct further upon it.
The worst part is she never shows you the proper stance to be standing in. It's clear her knees are bent, but she doesn't expalin how far to bend, how far apart your feet should be, do you tuck in your bottom, push it out? I took belly dancing class and they were very specific about your stance because too much or too little can throw your back out. I can't tell from the DVD what is the correct stance because of the skirts they wear.
The dancing was pretty and so was the scenery. I think once I pick up a different dvd that explains the stance and the moves better, I would go back to hers. I don't feel as though she gives enough information. I also get really irritated with her showing you a move and then saying "this is blah blah blah, this is what it looks like." Yeah thanks. I'd really appreciate it if you told me how to do it. Maybe I'm just dumb, but I don't learn by being shown, I need verbal instructions. My boyfriend and I both found this DVD confusing and not terribly educational. The dance is beautiful and once I have some understanding of proper posture and such, I'll go back to this one.
I'm surprised.

First of all, I don't do exercise videos, or at least I didn't. I also don't write reveiws, but Hula Cardio has inspired me to do both.
I bought this from Amazon.com on a whim. I am by no means thin and active and I was looking for something that wasn't too hard, too strange, or too boring. I figured it was a tall order from other workout DVD's I had tried. But after reading all the great reveiws I decided to give it a shot.
And it's wonderful. It's fun and and challenging, but motivating enough that I could do it the whole way through the first time. I love how she shows you the dance you are going to learn at the beggining, then takes you through step by step until you can perform it yourself at the end. It's just great. AND I'm not one to bounce around working out in front of people, but this DVD is so fun i now do it with my two friends, one who's heavier than me and one who's thinner. We all love it and have a great time laughing and doing it together. And not only is it fun, it works. I'm drenched in sweat and feeling the burn through the entire thing but always with a smile on my face. Now that's a great work out. I'm even buying 2 more of her DVD's just to get more of it!
Another great workout from Kili

This is actually the first one I bought. And I liked it so much that I did it twice in the one week. The time seems to fly by when I am doing it.
I like the moves, I like how strong she (and the back up dancers are), I like the drumming.
There are only a couple of moves which are high impact, and easy to work around if you have joint issues.
This is a workout that I enjoy, and would like to think that I can build up to their sensuousness, and strength, over the coming weeks.
I enjoyed this and the hula abs and arms so much, that I have ordered the other two.
NOT FUN AT ALL!!

This DVD was super lame and embarrassing to do, AND I was by myself. NOT DANCING at all. BOO!!
I like Her other Tahitian Dance video it's super fun and sexy too!
It's actual dancing, get that one!
Pretty fun and my obliques felt it

I hate doing cardio so I bought this dvd. Plus I figured with all that dancing my abs may get worked too. Kili the instructor is in fantastic shape. She should make some strength training dvd's. You should see all if her muscle, I was impressed. It took a few times doing the dvd to get used to the moves which were all clearly demonstrated. After awhile my obliques were on fire. I did not sweat but this was definately fun. And Im sure the more I use this dvd over time it will slim the hips and abs. I have a feeling I was not sweating because Im not the best dancer and I was not going as fast as the girls. I think as time goes by using this dvd will help you be good at hula dancing. Overall this is a fun dvd and you will definatly see results in the waistine.
Kili's best!

Out of all of the Island Girl DVDs I own, this one is my favorite. Although I don't work up a sweat using the other Island Girl DVDs, this one I usually do! (I consider the Island Girl hula videos to be more toning in nature for the abs and legs and use them as such...I don't count the Island Girl DVDs as "cardio" per se).
Some good music, good moves. My only qualm is that during the final dance the music doesn't "quite" match up with what's happening on screen. Kili and the girls are just a bit faster than the music, so near the end of the final dance I have to ignore what the girls are doing and just follow the audio.
Fun stuff though, and (as with all of the Island Girl DVDs) I can Really feel my abs and hips working!
Recommend to beginners/low intermediates
Nice little workout

I have been doing this DVD for a little while now and I find it very enjoyable.
True that it is not a workout for hard core power exercisers, but it is fun and gets you moving. You are finished with it and onto cool down before you even realize that you have worked your heart rate up. I also like the fact that this workout was a bit gentler on my joints than some of the other's I have tried.
The music is good, the cues are good, the instructions are clear and understandable, the scenery is lovely. Great beginner workout or it would be a great workout for days when you want something a little bit more mellow than a pounding FIRM workout.
Even my teenaged daughter does this workout with me and enjoys it.
After you know the routine, there is an option in the special features that allows you to turn off the cues and just do the workout to music... nice!
Nice workout!

Great workout for the abs, and cute little routine just for fun. The problem I have is that once you learn the moves and the routine, where do you get the music to match. I would love it if these instructional DVDs came with a music CD. Can someone tell me if there is music available that I would be able to pair with this DVD.
